I am looking forward to 300. Ever since reading the book The Gates of Fire, the Medic Wars have become a kind of hobby for me. The film looks highly stylized, which can cut both ways in a war movie.

I saw Alpha Dog last week, I was very impressed. Great acting by this young group of actors (yes, including some good work from Justin Timberlake), and small but good parts by Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone. Very intreging movie, that shows the grittyness of people with the addictions and selling of drugs.
I would give it a 8 out of 10

The Number 23 - First half of the preview looked very promising, then second half made it look like a thriller/horror movie. I figure a serious Jim Carrey movie could either end up amazing, like ETERNAL SUNSHINE, or be easily passed over, like THE MAJESTIC.

Pan's Labyrinth - I can hardly wait to experience it - the stills and an interview with the director has me very excited, never mind all the stunning reviews.

Ken Loach's THE WIND & THE BARLEY, which won the top award at the last Cannes Film Fest, opens in March. It is about the Irish troubles and stars Cillian Murphy, the baddie from the last BATMAN.
Also BREAKING & ENTERING, the latest hookup between Anthony Minghella & Jude Law opens Friday. The release of this one was pushed back from '06, which doesn't usually portend good things. Minghella is a terrific director whose ENGLISH PATIENT and TALENTED MR. RIPLEY are among my all-time favorite films. I think Law is a good actor, but doesn't seem to be all that discriminating when it comes to choosing projects (ALFIE remake, the ALL THE KING'S MEN remake). The last Minghella hookup, though, COLD MOUNTAIN, was a bit of a dud.

I, myself, can't actually wait to see "300", either! In case you haven't taken a look at my Comic-Based Movie thread, I am an avid comic geek & LOVE Frank Miller! The Trailer was too cool!
I'm also looking forward to "Ghost Rider" which'll be out in just 10 sweet days! There's also "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End". I actually enjoyed the second & I don't understand what everyone's problem is with it. And then there's "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer", which looks so flippin' awesome I just can't stand it!
EDIT I'm an idiot, I can't believe I was thinking Alan Moore wrote the flippin' book. I knew it was Frank Miller but, I had a sudden brain fart. I edited my post accordingly. Sorry for any confusion.

When I went to see "Ghost Rider", there was one fantastic trailer I had never seen before: "1408". This movie looks like it'a going to be cool than a mug! I have to see it! I also forgot all about the "Simpsons Movie". Being as big a fan as I am, I'm surprised that slipped my mind. Then there is "Transformers". I finally saw an extended trailer for this baby & man do the "Robots in Disguise" look great! Also, for great mindless fun & lots of explosions, you have "Live Free or Die Hard" coming out this year as well!

FANBOYS Quote from the IMDB site: Four guys from the Midwest drive across the country to honor the wish of their dying friend: to watch "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace" at George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch before the movie's worldwide release. Now tell me half the community here aren't as keen as butter on a knife to see this!!!!

The new Adam Sandler movie looks interesting. He's was really good in Punch Drunk Love, but I'm a little hesitant on this one. PDL had a lot of humor in it, this movie looks pretty depressing. Don Cheadle is a very good actor though.
I don't even think I'll bother seeing the third Pirates installment. The second was so awful, it makes me mad thinking about it.
Re: Pirates series...hah! I haven't looked fwd to any of 'em. The 2 so far deserve to walk the plank and have their bones buried deep in the ocean. But, how about looking fwd to SUNSHINE; the new collaboration between Alex Garland and Danny Boyle. These guys have done terrific work before with The Beach and 24 Days Later, so here's hoping.

"Black Snake Moan" looks very interesting. It'll be out this Friday & I'm gonna have to see it!

Check out the cast! Woody Harrelson and Tommy Lee Jones should make for a great film.
