There's a movie coming out with what looks like will be Jim Carrey's "Truman Show" for (I'm not kidding) ADAM SANDLER.
It looks like a thought provoking indie drama and the two main charatcers are played by Sandler and no less than Don Cheadle.
Sandler has to confront his past which has driven him to a near state of amnesia and Don Cheadle spots him one day and they restart a relationship that proves to be helpful for both. Added bonus; they start a band.
Of course what really sold me was the song they used at the end The Who's classic Love Reign O'er Me.

Sandler did show some acting chops in the underrated Punch Drunk Love, so anything's possible.

Sweet. Is Jonze or Gondry directing? I'm hoping Kaufman doesn't disappoint. It'll be tough to beat Eternal Sunshine, which is high on my list of greatest films of the decade.

Two films that were supposed to open late in '06 never did open and both I'm looking forward to both. However, by moving back the release date that might be a red flag.
BREAKING & ENTERING, directed by Anthony Minghella & starring Jude Law, was scheduled to open December 8. I'm a big fan of Minghella's ENGLISH PATIENT & TALENTED MR. RIPLEY. I didn't care for COLD MOUNTAIN, so I hope B&E is a return to form.
The other film that sounds interesting is THE HOAX, which was scheduled for a Dec. 10 release. Well, 12/10 came & went and no HOAX, which is the story of Clifford Irving, the guy who wrote a fictitious Howard Hughes autobio. The film stars Richard Gere and is directed by Lasse Hallstrom, who has turned into a bit of a hack.

The title of the film?
Reign Over Me
I loathe Adam Sandler. I've only seen him in two films, the one with Jack Nicholson. I think the title was ANGER MANAGEMENT. And I saw the one that P.T. Anderson directed.
I hated both of them.
I don't have high hopes for his new film and seeing the trailer didn't do anything to change that opinion. It looked like the same old AS schtick to me.
My Blueberry Nights Eastern Promises The Darjeeling Limited Margot at the Wedding There Will Be Blood Youth Without Youth The Wind That Shakes The Barley & These Times

It's still a long ways away, but as of now it might be Kaufman's directorial debut and the movie is called "Synecdoche, New York." I agree about "Eternal Sunshine," it'd be on my list along with "Adaptation" and "Being John Malkovich" would be on last decade's list.
I saw a preview for a serious, coming of age movie starring Kal Penn of "White Castle" fame. Might or might not be good, I think it was called "The Namesake," about a New Yorker of Indian descent that wants to live life on his own terms while his parents are pressuring him to remember his heritage.

That's true. I always forget about that movie for some reason.

I loved Narc and was excited to see Carnahan was doing another film. He was originally slated to do Mission Impossible 3. But after seeing the trailer for this yesterday, I think it looks crappy - like some bad Ocean's Eleven ripoff with hitmen instead of thieves.
I'm totally psyched that Paul Greengrass is back on board for the third Bourne movie though. He's a great director and I thought The Bourne Supremacy was one of the best directed action movies in recent times.

Gondry's next movie looks like it could be either ridiculously awesome or pretty bad. Here's the plot ooutline:
A man (Jack Black) whose brain becomes magnetized unintentionally destroys every tape in his friend's video store. In order to satisfy the store's most loyal renter, an aging woman (Mia Farrow) with signs of dementia, the two men set out to remake the lost films, which include Back to the Future, The Lion King, and Robocop.
I really hope Gondry makes great use of his "home made" special effects. If anyone can make this movie (remaking famous movies on the cheap), it's Michel Gondry.

Sounds like a good plot to me, hopefully he can pull it off and make it believable enough. I'm still waiting to see "The Science of Sleep." I know it got mixed reviews, but I'm gonna at least give it a shot.

Yeah, me too. I'll go in expecting little from the story. I'm sure the creative special effects will be more than worth it. Gondry is so amazing with all his tricks and inventions. I can't wait until he teams up with Charlie Kaufman again. Those two are a match made in heaven.

January and February are the traditional dumping grounds for the studios' orphans, but there was a film that opened Friday that I plan to see: ALPHA DOGS directed by Nick Cassavetes. It received generally good reviews, with some of the reviewers wondering why it was dumped into the theatres during the January dead period. I doubt this one is going to be around for long so I hope to see it soon.
Another film I have a mild interest in seeing is TEARS OF A BLACK TIGER, supposedly a whacky and colorful -- both literally and figuratively -- Thai Cowboy film that is playing in one Manhattan theatre.
