My wife and I both agreed on this one and its funny content. Having attended a number of movies, it appears that the laughter decibel and frequency was the loudest and numerous as I have experienced in three years. I won't insist that perhaps my sensitivity level to what's funny may differ from some others, but I did seriously find this movie hilarious in a qualitative way not just stupid way. [Spoiler incidents] A few examples - Drew Barrymore hits her head on the piano, sits on a waterbed, keeps pouring water on a plant, almost runs into a cactus plant.

Not too much to choose from imo.
But i'll have to go with Blades of Glory, Hot Fuzz, and Smokin' Aces.
In general, the releases so far this year have been pretty weak.
Last year the best movie hand's down was Pan's Labyrinth. If you haven't seen it you are missing out.

Can I just say right now that Pirates of the Caribbean will NOT be on my top ten list at the end of the year. It was endless. Ugh. What a dog!

So far my 2007 favorites are 300 and WAITRESS ... not as a double-bill, though.

Not much to choose from yet but I will put my vote in for Pirates 3. Goes all out and produces three hours of solid entertainment. I agree with Hot Fuzz but my feelings on Grindhouse have already been posted elsewhere. Look at the nominations for worst of 07 and see my vote for Grindhouse.

In a surprise to even myself, here's my half-year update for my favorite best movies so far this year, headed by well as a first a horror film.
1. 1408 (2007). One of the best horror thrillers in years, setting a new standard for this genre. John Cusack is a father who lost his daughter to cancer and is now staying in and writing about haunted places and he gets attempt to survive room 1408 in an hotel.
2. Breach (2007). Chris Cooper offers up a fantastic performance in the role of FBI traitor Robert Hanssen in a complex, subtle role that may be the best espionage drama to have been directed and produced.
3. Spiderman 3 (2007). A powerful sequel incorporating important, contemporary, mainstream issues dealing with revenge, hate, love and relationships, forgiveness. One of the best mainstream movies to come out since Titanic (1997) and Jaws (1975).
4. Premonition (2007). Sandra Bullock stars in this eerie mystery thriller where she told that her husband has died but then later wakes up to find him alive. This an emotional sensitive and excellent look at death and life and family relations.
5. Music and Lyrics (2007). A has been pop star played by Hugh Grant ends up with his substitute plant watering help played by Drew Barrymore in this very funny romantic comedy in an attempt to create a more contemporary musical number of a teen singer sensation.
6. Georgia Rule (2007). Lohan Lindsay, Jane Fonda, and Felicity Huffman provide excellent entertaining performances in this movie made for the mass audience regarding the relational estrangement between three generations and the impact of childhood abuse.
7. Waitress (2007). Keri Russell portrays a waitress who loves to bake pies, finds herself pregnant with a not so nice husband in this comedy-drama that is charming in its brilliant humorous and delicious movie.
8. Reign Over Me (2007). Adam Sandler offers a superb performance as a mentally ill man who is befriended by a old school buddy.
9. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007). An eye-popping, surrealistic, special effects extravaganza adventure. Includes a decent dose of humor, a bit excessive violence and plot confusion.
10. In The Land of Women[/COLOR (2007). A good drama with humor about a 25 year old man who flees to his ailing grandmother after his breakup with his girlfriend model and discovers more about relationships in a mother (Meg Ryan) and her daughter.
11. [COLOR:YELLOW]Miss Potter (2007). A dramatic romantic version of Beatrix Potter at the turn of the 20th Century who became a famous author of children's books. Renee Zellweger stars in this captivating period piece.
12. Mr. Brooks (2007). An intensive schizophrenic, psychological crime thriller starring Kevin Costner as a supposedly outstanding businessman/serial killer.
13. Catch and Release (2007). Jennifer Garner stars as a recent widow and her experiences living with her dead fiancee's friends. A good script that establishes a new level of comedy/drama.
14. The Reaping (2007). Hillary Swank is a disillusioned religious scientist who encounters the religious signs of the apocalypse. This consistent, entertaining thriller is a quality American occult cinema with the twist.
15. Smoking Aces (2007). An extra violent, raw crime drama with plenty of serious action about the attempt by various assassins to kill an important FBI informant ( serious version of Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction).

The only movies I've seen this year which merit best of consideration are Ratatouille and Grindhouse. I enjoyed Miss Potter OK, but it's a 2006 release.

And of course I haven't seen either Ratatouille nor Grindhouse.

Well, with the year half over, I'm still sticking with WAITRESS and 300. I'm holding out some hopes for the next Bourne film, too.

I agree with mark on this one. I have seen few movies in the theatre this year (4 to be exact) and the only ones that would be considered "best of" quality are Grindhouse and Ratatouille.
