So far, what are your favorite movies of 2007?

Zodiac- Fantastic thriller with twists up until the end... 9/10

300- Great action flick, nothing more 8.5/10

Alpha Dog- Suprisingly good movie with good acting, Underated in my opinion 7.5/10

Wild Hogs- (Hopefully) wont make my top 10 of '07, but I thought it was pretty funny, Macy/Travolta/Liotta were hillarious (believe me, I was suprised too)Check my Review here. 7/10

Curse of the Golden Flower

Pan's Labyrinth

Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been,
Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene;
As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be,
So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

Both of those are 2006 releases. I think Golden Flower may have been completed two years ago.

So far this year I would rank "Namesake' rather high. It has alot of understated power.

'300' was largely a disappointment.
'Zodiac' was an engrossing talk-fest.
'Breach' was decent.
'Amazing Grace' was tremendous. Highly recommended.
'The Host' was a thinking-yuppie's Mothra. You laugh at it and with it and in the end respect the work done on whole.

Amazing Grace def. does look good, been wanting to see it.

But, I really enjoyed '300'. Maybe it was because I went in there expecting some great visuals of a gore-fest, and the movie really delivered that quite well. I don't understand why so many people went in there expecting it to be historically accurate and such. Anyways, it gave me a huge rush and I feel that even though they were very liberal w/ the slow-motion, it was overall a very beautifully produced piece.

And I believe Alpha Dogs is 2006 also. I watched this the other night and thought it was funny, entertaining, but not quality. Also, not realistic of the lifestyle at all (believe me, if I'm not close enough to the kids they're trying to portray, my friends are).

Mate, you're being a little pedantic, methinks.... Smiler
both these were released in the last few wks of 2006, and I saw them both in 2007, so yes, I am smudging a little, but for all intents and purposes, these are Cultural Artifacts discussed primarily in 2007. Wink

Give 'em what for, Ishmael! Big Grin

Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

Well, Im so far behind the 8 ball here in China.

I mean, 2007, the Year of the Pig, only began here a few weeks ago after all, so I got slim pickings by that criteria ha ha Smiler

Did anyone check out Grindhouse this weekend? Planet Terror was probably the better of the two movies. It was pretty damn funny. I can't get the image of Frankie Rodriguez on a mini bike out of my head.

Death Proof was enjoyable but it was incredibly uneven. It was either all talk or all action. The dialogue was well written but it went on to long. The car chase scene at the end of the Death Proof was the best moment in either movie though.

And those fake trailers were hilarious.

Yes! Thanksgiving and Machete were my favorite trailers (Don't also kicked ass tho). I just heard a rumor that Machete might become actual, which would be awesome.

About Death Proof - the second slow dialogue scene was really one big reference to reservoir dogs. For my two cents, I was just happy to relax a bit before things got crazy again. I think if the whole thing had the pace of Planet Terror and the end of Death Proof, my synapses would have been completely frazzled.

Grindhouse is one of the best movies I've seen all year, though that isn't saying a whole lot. I especially liked the first one, Planet Terror. I think it achieved exactly what Rodriguez was going for: fast-paced action, comedy, plenty of gore, and a little bit of romance. Tarantino's movie, Deathproof, wasn't nearly as good but was still very enjoyable. The man can write good dialogue, that's been proven, I just wish there hadn't been so much of it.

And about the trailers, I also heard that one of them might be a trailer for a real movie. Not sure which one, but i'm guessing it was Machete.

Best movies so Far

300: Brilliant film with intense battle sequences.

Hot Fuzz: Saw ascreening and I wasn't disapointed.

Zodiac: ALthough long, it's still the best film this year.

Reign over Me: Not oscar worthy but still good.

300 - One of the best films in years.

Blades Of Glory - Utterly ridiculous, and funny as all getout.

Wild Hogs - Very unexpectedly hilarious. The critics were dead wrong here.

Ghost Rider - Once again, the critics were very wrong. I found it to be an enjoyable ride. Yeah, it had unused potential, but it was still good.

I would have to agree that certainly 300 and ZODIAC are the best movies of this year so far.

I think both have an excellent chance at scoring ACADEMY AWARD nominations for Best Visual Effects, and I do trust ZODIAC with another two or three nominations, possibly including Best Director (which I so hope!), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Production Design.

However, I believe ZODIAC hit a difficult time frame for it's release and might simply be overlooked in next year's nominations.

Oh, by the way, ... I also enjoyed SUNSHINE.

Blades of Glory, Wild Hogs, and Ghost Rider were all a lot of fun. I don't expect them to end up on my "Ten Best of 2007" list, but they were a lot of fun.

Hot Fuzz- Good comedy/action film. I expected more but it was still very entertaining. 8/10

Spiderman III- Better than what critics and people are saying about it. Great on the action and comedy, but story was small at times. No, not as good as the 2nd, but it was still damn fun. 8/10

Blades of Glory- Had low expectations, but ended up laughing throughout most of the movie, though wasn't as funny as Anchorman or Talladega Nights. IMO, I still don't like Herder. 7/10

Last Movie Seen: There Will Be Blood 9/10
