It was a great year for films and I know that a lot of us are still catching up with a lot of stuff but I thought we could post our “Final” top movies of the year, rank them and tabulate them like the songs and albums lists here. I will do the tabulating this year since there aren’t too many of us. You can post however many you want but only the top 12 will count and we will do something easy like number one gets 12 points; number two gets 11, like this:
1. 12 2. 11 3. 10 4. 9, etc.
If anyone else has a better, alternative way to score them, let me know. Again, this is for Final best movie lists only. And of course we can debate and talk about them as well. You can post from now and we’ll make the deadline for February 23rd, the Wednesday before the Oscars. I hope this all sounds well and I hope a lot of people contribute.
FINAL RESULTS:
1. There Will Be Blood – 101 points, 10 ballots, 4 first-place votes 2. No Country for Old Men – 99 points, 13 ballots, 2 first-place votes 3. Juno – 86 points, 12 ballots 4. I'm just worried I won't have seen everything I want to see before Feb 23. One of the drawbacks of living where I live, not everything comes through here. There Will Be Blood, for instance, still isn't playing anywhere within a couple hours of here. I can make a list, but it'll probably be pretty tentative.

I figured this would be an issue for some people and that’s why I pushed it as far back as I could. Once the Oscars happen, that’s pretty much it for awards and the critics have already long ago submitted their lists.
I just hope that everyone does get to see as many films as they can and post a list. Even if they don’t get to see a couple of films because they never got to them or they missed them and are awaiting the DVD, I would encourage them to post their list here. I just think we have enough people who really do follow movies and like them enough to start this.

Well, I guess I'm going to be the first one to post a list: 1. There Will Be Blood 2. No Country For Old Men 3. Persepolis 4. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street 5. Paprika 6. The Diving Bell and The Butterfly 7. Juno 8. Sunshine 9. Away From Her 10. Eastern Promises 11. 28 Weeks Later 12. Ratatouille
OK, I got it and no problem. You can always list as many as you want so you can re-add the rest of your honorable mentions if you wish. Only the top 12 will count.
How are you by the way, I hope all is well.

I've e-mailed the music editor and she herself said that she will add our consensus list to the other "Top 10 lists of 2007" on the main MC site. This is great news because it will be up just like the movie and song lists. So I encourage everyone to post their list here, you have about a month left.

I'll make a list within a week. Does anyone know if The Lives of Others was 2007? I know it wasn't in Germany, but I think it may have been a 2007 release in the US. Let me know becuase that movie would rank high on my list.

It did play at some festivals here before the end of 2006. It was also submitted for an Oscar last year. Hence it's win for Best Foreign Film at last year's Oscars, but several critics put it on their Best of 2007 list because they couldn't see it until then. Your call.

1. 4 Months 3 Weeks & 2 Days 2. Zodiac 3. Atonement 4. Before the Devil Know your Dead 5. Bourne Ultimatum 6. No Country for Old Men 7. Once 8. Michael Clayton 9. Knocked Up 10.Tie The Namesake & The Assassination of Jesse James
I have seen a ton of movies from '07. 4 Months was just incredible. Acting, dialogue, Direction, & fantastic camera work. I didn't think anything would beat Zodiac but 4 Months, which I saw at the end of the year, finally won the top spot for me.
A couple other noteworthy releases for me were Gone Baby Gone & the hugely underrated fantasy film Stardust.
I have not seen I'm Not There, The Diving Bell & the Butterfly, and Persepolis.

You only have 9 movies there, you forgot #4.
And remember guys, you can rank how many movies you want but only the top 12 will count. So twinsdad and Liberalkid, you can expand your lists to 12 like the others have or leave it as is.
