Flaming Lips didn't do themselves justice. They need to start writting songs again and stop the studio experiments. Thats what makes The Soft Bulletin and Clouds Taste... so much better than this offering

As like most years since 2003, I find myself disappointed in a Magnolia Electric Company release: Fading Trails. There are 4 different sessions on the album, which could have made 4 good records, but don't work together. Sigh. At least Molina's very due, in my mind. S
Yeah. You've had it hard since you succumbed to identity politics.

pretty brutal year when you can come up with a top ten list ..

I was hugely disappointed with The Streets album. I'm a huge Streets fan, but I just couldn't get into this. The singles were poor. I actively despise Never Went To Church. It was just a Dry Your Eyes by-the-numbers rehash. Some of Mike Skinner's lyrics were really slack and he comes close to self parody at times.
That said, it's still better than:
Stadium Arcadium -
Jesus, get over yourselves. Just because you write 28 songs doesn't mean you have to stick them all on your album. There's probably a really decent 12 track album in amongst this bloated tedium, but it's difficult to tell when you feel like you've been listening to the same song over and over again for the best part (or the worst part in fact) of two hours.

I agree w/ TYiG's Sam's Town sentiment... I also thought Liars new album wasn't too great (although their first 2 I enjoyed). The Eraser bored the crap out of me... I think that's about it. All the ones I've been bashing since I got on here haha.

I just saw this post but yeah he has said that Sam's Town is amazing. He has even gone on to say that he would glady put it up against OK Computer and Achtung Baby--yes both of those classics!
He claims that he was trying to make something classic since David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen made Hunky Dory and Born to Run, respectively, when they were in their mid-20s and he was trying to do the same. He definetely feels like he did.

woot. I didn't know who Brandon Flower's was...so I wikied him. Here was the opening paragraph...

"Brandon Flowers (born June 21, 1981) is the vocalist and keyboardist in the American synth rock band The Killers. Sadly, he has passed away. On the night of January 1st, after leaving a New Year's party, his car got crashed against a wall. The medics took him to the hospital. He died a few hours later. We are all very sorry. Note: This most certainly, absolutely did happen, as tragic and unbelieveable as it is, Brandon Flowers is no longer a part of our lives. I witnessed this terrible accident."

Grizzly Bear's Yellow House was kinda disappointing, maybe because of all the praise it was getting, I thought it was a new indie masterpiece. I still like it, but it doesn't make my top 10, maybe not even my top 20 of '06.

I don't think this is true.
You're right. Calling him a "vocalist" is a pretty big stretch, at least when he isn't in a studio being run through processing and pitch-correction software. I saw a televised live show and man, he simply cannot sing. Think Robert Smith of The Cure, but run through a pitch oscillator and completely out of key anyway. Nails on a chalkboard do not really cover Brandon Flower's voice... I could go on all day about it.
Wait. That was what you thought wasn't true, right?

Tell the truth I saw The Killers at a couple of festivals and both times Flowers was nigh on perfect. Not defending his music though. Sam's Town is pretty boring.
