1. Bruce Springsteen- We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions 2. The Hold Steady- Boys and Girls in America 3. Tom Waits- Orphans 4. Destroyer- Destroyer’s Rubies 5. Bob Dylan- Modern Times 6. M. Ward- Post War 7. Mountain Goats- Get Lonely 8. The Walkmen- A Hundred Miles Off 9. Thom Yorke- The Eraser 10. Frank Black- Fast Man Raider Man
This list is pretty different. I had first thought that 2006 was a very weak year but now I just find it to be decent. The challenge last year was seeking music for you to enjoy instead of it just landing on your lap. Either way, 2007 could end today and it would still rival and beat 2006 in quality of great music, easily.
1. Muse – Black Holes and Revelations 2. Joanna Newsom – Ys 3. Ghostface Killah – Fishscale 4. Arctic Monkeys – Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not 5. Destroyer – Destroyer’s Rubies 6. Tom Waits – Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards 7. Clipse – Hell Hath No Fury 8. The Decemberists – The Crane Wife 9. Bob Dylan – Modern Times 10. The Roots – Game Theory 11. Yo La Tengo – I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass 12. Midlake – The Trials of Van Occupanther 13. The Knife – Silent Shout 14. Neko Case – Fox Confessor Brings the Flood 15. I don't remember hearing a whole lot of love for this one, but it's a winner. Some of the best lyrics anywhere, and I really like the dude's voice as well.

Nice. I just discovered this guy earlier this year. His inclusion almost offsets Joanna Newsom's.
I know she is not exactly easy to get into (may be an understatement for some), but her talents are indisputable to me. maybe milk eyed mender would be more digestible for those that could not stomach ys (songs are less sprawling in length).
i would not be surprised to see cadence blow up this year. he is on epitaph and will surely get waaaay more support for his album in the states this year. plus, the whole dance-beat driven stuff he is working on right now will surely win over some new fans. very fun live, and just a really cool and nice guy in general. plus he might have the greatest name EVER: Roland "Rollie" Theodore Pemberton - no lies, that is his actual name.

Nope, she's pretty much unlistenable for me. Now, if she released an album of lyric-less harp music, I might consider it.

Redid my list the other day, just to see how it would turn out. I didn't buy Ys until this year, so that rearranged it a little, but still the same #1. I've probably listened to Regina Spektor the most this year:
1. The Decemberists - The Crane Wife 2. Thom Yorke - The Eraser 3. Dixie Chicks - Taking the Long Way 4. Joanna Newsom - Ys 5. Midlake - The Trials of Van Occupanther 6. Regina Spektor - Begin to Hope 7. Belle and Sebastian - The Life Pursuit 8. Beirut - Gulag Orkestar 9. Beck - The Information 10. Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere

Loved Milk-Eyed Mender.
Hated Ys.
But I guarantee, if you're ever having a party and you want to get everyone out, put on Joanna Newsom. It TOTALLY works.
