Hip-Hop has gone down in quality overall, but how those that make any belief that there should be more Hip-Hop albums in the top 20 inaccurate? That makes little sense, as while the amount of quality albums from that genre(and in music in general imo)has gone down since the 80's and 90's there still has been plenty of top notch releases this year.
I'd personally put the releases from The Roots/Cunninlynguists/Lupe Fiasco up against any other albums from other genres.
Well, getting away from the brawl next door (take it private guys, this is about the voted albums) I'm actually surprised that TV On The Radio won, and expecially by such an amazing margin. I was going to predict an out-of-nowhere win for the Decemberists or something. I love the fact that Tom Waits beat out Dylan, though interestingly it was by a scant 3 points. Also, Muse topping Beck was not something I expected since there is not a lot of love for Muse on these boards.
And I must say, after all the love for Clispe and The Arctic Monkeys, I am surprised they are not higher on the list -- though I have not heard either album.

Clipse should not be surprising, since most who posted don't listen to rap at all.
You are surprised TV on the Radio won? You must not have been following this thread very closely at all...
P.S. Someone explain how Pixies and Radiohead are antecedents to "TV on the Radio"

EDIT: Not all of the above are serious. EDIT 2: But more than half are!
EDIT 3: As for the list being overly male, I dunno. I see 8 or so estrogen-enabled acts in the list, and 3 in the top 10. That's not so bad. I remember we had a discussion on this forum about Pitchfork's top albums of the 70s where the puzzling fact was revealed that of 100 albums maybe one or two were released by women. Now that's androcentrism!

I followed this thread very closely, but many members were really pumping Clipse. Then again a handful were also really pushing that Muse record too, and it didn't do so well either.
I thought TV On The Radio was just too obvious a choice. RL did say it might be a surprise.
By the way, The Beach Boys are actually a bigger influence on TVOTR's doo-wop style than Radiohead.
at least this much is true. even people who like kanye can give that despite the great music he's the worst mc since my 8 yr old cousin. neptunes would stay there except they got with clipse.. you can also add "plagiarist" to timbalands file for directly ripping off some demo tape for nelly furtado's "do it"
lupe fiasco should have bored the balls off of everyone. stale as the day is long.
I just read about that. It seems a little weird to call this instance, specifically, "plagiarism" without indicting hip-hop more broadly for the sometimes-grey-area antics pervasive in sampling culture. I don't remember anybody on this board using words as strong as "plagiarist" when The Grey Album was blowing up.
The ringtone thing makes me a lot more uneasy than the use in the Nelly Furtado song, fwiw.

Big thanks to RL in this thread and ericg in the song thread for tallying up the results. I hope we can depend on ya'll again for keeping track of the forum members best-of lists for '07. Sure we can!

Anyone who thinks the RZA(one of the greatest producers in Hip-Hop) and the GZA(one of the greatest lyricists),two realities that are widely acknowledged by those with a clue in the Hip-Hop community, were 'never-weres' needs to stop posioning Hip-Hop with his/her clueless and asinine opinions.
A huge thanks to RL for his hard work on this list. There is obviously more votes on here than past lists, thanks again RL. I won't comment too much about everyone's fighting from the past three pages. I will say this though, it seems like a lot of newbies (and I mean how long they have been members and not age-wise) seem to be rather confident and brave with spewing nonsense out of their mouths. Seriously, I enjoy some ribbing from time to time but to always be in arguments, especially when you haven't even been here for longer than even 6 months for some? Just relax...
Anyways, if anyone is still interested, now that RL has posted the final list, you can send me your write-ups through PM's. If you haven't heard or need clarification on what to send, go here. Since we are almost at the end of the first month of the year, talking about 2006 for much longer seems kind of pointless so I would like to put these write-ups out sometime soon. I guess you can send me stuff up until late Friday night so that I can post the complete write-ups for Metacritic users Saturday morning or something like that. Thanks a bunch, and thanks a bunch RL.
----- If you don't love me, I'm sorry.

1. Joanna Newsom - 13 2. Hold Steady - 11 TV On the Radio - 11 4. Destroyer - 6 Liars - 6 6. Knife - 4 Arctic Monkeys - 4 8. Band of Horses - 3 Beirut - 3 Grizzly Bear - 3 11. Decemberists - 2 Neko Case - 2 Thermals - 2 Thom Yorke - 2 Bob Dylan - 2 M Ward - 2 Islands - 2 Califone - 2 J. Dilla - 2 Howe Gelb - 2
Then there's a bunch of people tied with 1 each. Interestingly, until about the last 4 days (maybe even the last 2 or 3 days, I'm not sure) TV On the Radio only had 5 first-place votes. Then a stream of six #1's came streaming in for them. I'm not really surprised that Newsom had the most #1's as that was an album that a lot of people loved and a lot of people hated.

I think you might have wanted to read my first EDIT before charging in with the "clueless" and "asinine," but alright. I didn't realize no one can hold an opinion unless "those with a clue in the Hip-hop community" (who knew there was a 'Hip-hop community' in Ireland?) agree with it.
EDIT: Decided this was as good a post as any to thank RL. You waded through 1000+ posts to compile this list and that's a task no man or woman could envy. Bravo.

Wow, that was quite a little tussle here earlier on! People can be so insecure and paranoid.
It's certainly no way to properly thank RL for his herculean effort with the list - but then respect was something in short supply for some of those agressive posters.
Nice to see Beck, Muse and the Raconteurs scrape into the list - I know they are not nearly as profound as yer newsomes and TVOTRs but my God did I get a bucket load of pure listening pleasure from their albums this year. Great that others seemed to share this pleasure!
Trust in God but remember to tie up your camel
