I found the last page or so of posts really interesting for the following reasons:
1) It's nice to see some love for Camille. She is truly amazing. I think you should know though, that she is mine. Sorry about that.
2) I'd really like to get hold of some of those potent drugs that make The Decemberists sound like Linkin Park. No, on second thoughts, I really wouldn't! I can hear a bit of Life During Wartime in The Perfect Crime though, which can only be a good thing.
3) I was surprised to hear that When The War Came to Summersong was a weak section in The Crane Wife. Shows how good an album it is when even it's weakest stretch is better than the strongest section of most other albums released this year.*
4) Don't cross the mods. They'll rip your throat clean off like Swayze in Roadhouse.
* IMHO, of course.

Come on man, Dwight Schrute is awesome.

This was the most difficult list I've made here. I said I would post certain albums and they didn't make it. I could change the list tomorrow and MLK Day, and the day after that, so I just have to say "Be Still!" (you Wild Things!) So, if anybody says that 2006 was weak, I'll have to disagree because I could have (and DID) rearrange this list just about everyday in the last six weeks. I could have put 10 other albums in there (sound familiar?), but I swallowed it up, and put these. Even so, I'm not happy with it, but I'm totally committed to them, such as they are!
1. Bruce Springsteen We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions 2. Bob Dylan Modern Times 3. Los Lobos The Town and the City 4. Yo La Tengo I Am Not Afraid of…Your Ass 5. Built to Spill You in Reverse 6. Alejandro Escovedo The Boxing Mirror 7. Sonic Youth Rather Ripped 8. eels With Strings: Live at Town Hall 9. The Hold Steady Boys and Girls in America 10. Cracker Greenland 11. Arctic Monkeys Whatever…I Am Not 12. Johnny Cash Personal Fire (disc one) 13. Rosanne Cash Black Cadillac 14. Jon Auer Songs From the Year of Our Demise 15. Joanna Newsom Ys 16. Loose Fur Born Again in the U.S.A. 17. Tapes ‘n Tapes The Loon 18. The Thermals The Body, The Blood, The Machine 19. Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins Rabbit Fur Coat 20. TV on the Radio Return to Cookie Mountain

Not that my lowly opinion matters, but I really like your list. Outkast's albums wasn't as bad as many people though it was. I also like that you have John Legend's latest that high.

With that said, I have a gut feeling that the order will most likely be:
Unless The Decemberists have garnered enough votes to be pushed into the top 3 and take down one of the "big dogs." Hopefully it does. And although kendocubano and L.R. will disagree with me (and it's ok if they do) but I really love The Crane Wife.
I definitely wouldn't totally disagree with you... as I pointed out, it was number 11 on my list.

BContrat, you do realize that because of the 30 post/3 months rule 90% of the newbie lists don't count, right?
My list is done!!! I'm really very reluctant to post still, but I don't think there are any changes left to make. If anything, I could be anti-conformist and omit TVOTR...but it is too good of an album.
P.S. Does anyone else think Yo La Tengo's new record is a gargantuan success? I'm not sure if it's topped a list yet, but it definitely deserves credit.

Orphans was omitted due to technical reasons. Sorry if you want to confiscate my list, but it's mine. Didn't you post yours, mostly in peace and quiet? Thanks for paying attention though.
The Beatles' Love SOUNDS better than any album this year, so according to you, I should have posted that WAY UP THERE, but no, disqualified, even if highly recommended, at least until the Fab's catalog is entirely remastered.

And the Malajube, by the way, is way impressive; even though I know no French, I try to sing along.
Heh, me too - it's always fun to sing random syllables. If I were to actually look at the lyrics, I would have a decent idea of what they're saying... but random syllables is not only much more fun, it's more annoying to those around me!
Well, I'm a french man and don't get all the meaning of those lyrics... and that's why I love these kids so much! This is quite modern poetry or some. And you guys aren't the only two english men trying to sing along Malajube's song as they'll be touring a lot in the usa during spring time...

":For the record, my two favorite genres are probably RAP and ELECTRONIC/AVANT-GARDE. This list is definitely me stepping out of my comfort zone - I listened to way too much fuckin music in 2006 - but I can't wait for next year.
Just wondering, Mr. Electronic Yo La Tengo Rapman, why you don't have I am Not Afraid of You as your number one...?
Okay, please note, Mr. Lunatic, that this is post number thirty. Under the wire. My best of '07 shouldn't require so much stress now. So anyway, here you are once again:

Posted 19 December 2006 09:55 PM Hide Post So, if I understand correctly, my list doesn't count unless I cram thirty posts in before the deadline. Hmm. Well, I'll put my list up and decide if it's worth it later. And I'm assuming the Beatles mashup doesn't count as new material? I counted Serena Maneesh and Love is All as 2005, but felt I should give them a nod since others seem to be doing so. I don't know... Anyway, here's a list of what I've enjoyed this past year:
1 Califone: Roots and Crowns 2 Final Fantasy: He Poos Clouds 3 Grizzly Bear: Yellow House 4 The Antennas: Sins 5 The Decemberists: The Crane Wife 6 Band of Horses: Everything All the Time 7 Sunset Rubdown: Shut Up I am Dreaming 8 Hello Saferide: Introducing... 9 Aloha: Some Echoes 10 Tap Tap: Lanzafame 11 Bat for Lashes: Fur and Gold 12 Candy Bars: On Cutting Ti-Gers and Understanding Narravation 13 I'm From Barcelona: Let me Introduce My Friends 14 Islands: Return to the Sea 15 The Essex Green: Cannibal Sea 16 Envelopes: Demon 17 Figurines: Skeleton 18 Asobi Seksu: Citrus 19 Grandaddy: Just Like the Fambly Cat 20 Malajube: Trompe L'Oeil
There's more, and I'd give them an order, but it doesn't count anyway, not that a first time poster like me counts for anything anyway. Here we go:
Bound Stems: Appreciation Night Corrina Repp: The Absent and the Distant His Name is Alive: Detrola Annuals: Be He Me The Hylozoists: La Fin du Monde Yo La Tengo: I am not afraid of you and I will beat your ass Young and Sexy: Panic When You Find It Belle and Sebastian: The Life Pursuit The Blow: Paper Television Mates of State: Bring it Back The Dears: Gang of Losers American Princes: Less and Less
Please check these out...I think you may find some things with which you'll fall in love.

Dude, lay off the booze. (Can you actually go through that many moods in a single post?) I'm not trying to crash your party or ruin your day, I'm just griping. I do have to live up to my name now and then.
You'll also have to do better than "technical reasons", as Orphans is more than half new and is dimensionally better than Modern Times -- at least in my book. As is Return to Cookie Mountain; both are adventurous and aren't trapped by the feeling of stale, rehashed pop that plagues Modern Times. Why make music that would have been seen as boring 50 years ago? Why make music without energy, without feeling, without passion? If Dylan hadn't acted like he was just phoning it in and maybe put some effort into the record, made it fun and even had fun with it, I probably would have enjoyed it much more.
I'll have to listen to it again before I can fully stand by my dislike of Modern Times, but it just didn't do anything for me, while Orphans almost hit my #1 spot on the first listen.
uhhh...i guess mine doesn't count but i thought i'd post it all the same:
1. Art Burt-Bang Bang Rock & Roll 2. Ghostface Killah-Fishscale 3. Bob Dylan-Modern Times 4. The Hold Steady-Boys And Girls In America 5. Midlake-The Trials Of Van Occupanther 6. Morrissey-Ringleader of the Tormentors 7. Yo La Tengo-I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass 8. Gnarls Barkley-St. Elsewhere 9. The Thermals-The Body The Blood The Machine 10. Comets On Fire-Avatar 11. Sean Lennon-Friendly Fire 12. The Raconteurs-Broken Boy Soldiers 13. The Decemberists-The Crane Wife 14. Outkast-Idlewild 15. Beck-The Information 16. Clipse-Hell Hath No Fury 17. Plan B-Who Needs Actions When You Got Words 18. Sonic Youth-Rather Ripped 19. Gob Iron-Death Songs For The Living 20. Wow, I sure have missed a lot in the few hours I was away. . Now to offer my ever-insightful opinion:
First off, ok Dork, we get it, you love TVotR and their 2006 album but just because some people have it low on their list or not at all doesn't mean that you have to always comment on it. It'd be like if every time I saw it on a list I had to say, "What gives? That album sucks" Not that you are being that harsh but just cool down.
As for the Tom Waits thing, I love that album and much more than Bob Dylan's but that doesn't mean that just because Mark is older and likes music like Los Lobos and Dylan and Springsteen doesn't make him inclined to HAVE the Tom Waits set in his list. As I understood it, he does like it but it didn't meet his own list of requirements.
And Mark, it might be out of my place since you are a moderator and all, but I don't think that Dork's one-sentence comment about your listed warranted an expletive. Even if it was kind of mean.
----- If you don't love me, I'm sorry.

I very much like the inclusion of Hello Saferide, which I have very high on my 2005 list (I think it could go on either year)I was wondering if you could tell us a few things about The other 4 artists there though.

Considering the fact that you believe that Modern Times is stale, rehashed, energy-less, passionless, etc, I guess I'll have to DRUNKENLY (wtf?) tell my entire family and friends that THEY ARE witless zombies because "Dork" says so!
Modern Times will be danced and sung to in 50 years while some of yours (and mine) will be committed to the cement slab. I just don't get what you're trying to say I'm the problem with why this year is poor or unappreciated, or I somehow infuence others? I have ONE set of votes. Yours is as good as mine. Did I call you a DORK somewhere because I don't recall that? Oh yeah, stop drinking. What do you believe I'm drinking? Who is off topic here?
Dork, c'mon now, what's up? I can't be the entire reason for your post?!? Sometimes an "expletive" is the lightest and "funnest" way to talk about something. People around here are way too serious. I KNOW you believe that!

I never bothered to listen to TVOTR because I figured I wouldn't like it anyway, but my brother was playing it today. Sounded bad to me. Granted, this was just a first listen, but I don't think I could ever like it.
