Just heard the thing from Tokyo Police Club and I agree. If the EP is any indication, good things are yet to come. And the Malajube, by the way, is way impressive; even though I know no French, I try to sing along.

Heh, me too - it's always fun to sing random syllables. If I were to actually look at the lyrics, I would have a decent idea of what they're saying... but random syllables is not only much more fun, it's more annoying to those around me!

My question? Why no love (relatively) for the Decemberists, here, or in critics lists?
I think it's top 10 or so here... it was in my top 10 (pretty sure), but "Shankill Butchers", "When The War Came", "The Perfect Crime 2" and "Summersong" are geniunely bad songs. In my opinion, a top 5 record can't have that many bad songs...

Couldn't disagree with you more. I think that practically every single song on that album is amazing, especially the three-part "The Island..." I would have to say that they have matured nicely, the songwriting is incredibly good and they are getting better and better. I don't mean to put you down, but I really disagree with you on this.
By the way send me your write-ups for albums you would like to write about, check here.

Four "genuinely bad" songs? And it was in your top 10? I don't think I thought anything in my top 20 had any "genuinely bad" songs—sure, a few I wasn't particularly impressed by, but not bad. If you're putting something you barely like in your top 10 you might want to consider some serious soul searching.
Alliteration! I win!

Well, I'm a french man and don't get all the meaning of those lyrics... and that's why I love these kids so much! This is quite modern poetry or some. And you guys aren't the only two english men trying to sing along Malajube's song as they'll be touring a lot in the usa during spring time...

No, I see your point, but I'm sort of picky... the only albums in my top 20 that didn't have any songs I disliked were The Hold Steady, Beirut, Joanna Newsom, and Howe Gelb. The fact is, the remaining songs on The Crane Wife managed to hold the album up for me (I looked back and it was number 11). If I did my top 20 again, though, it would probably be knocked down a few spots by Sunset Rubdown (previously unlisted), Grizzly Bear (unlisted), Danielson (12), The Knife (13), and Liars (17). So, if I did my list again, The Crane Wife would be my number 16 album. I still feel that the other six songs are good enough to make it a good record.
Looking back on that, I realize how much some albums moved in about a month. I really should have waited to post my list...

OK, FragileKidA, I just relistened to the four songs I mentioned, and this is what I came up with:
The Perfect Crime 2 sounds like a Bee Gees outcast with no falsetto.
During When The War Came, I half-expect Linkin Park to cut in.
Shankill Butchers is about a bunch of dudes with cleavers killing people...
Summersong, I've decided, isn't genuinely bad. It is genuinely nothing but fluff.
