By the way, the album is titled Illinois not "Illinoise." And I do have to agree with nathanielkt that Joanna Newsom's album is probably the Illinois of this year. Look at the cover. All Music Guide has it listed as "Illinoise" too...
This is really petty but...1)If you pick up the CD, look at the side of it, it says "Sufjan Stevens Illinois." 2)In that AMG thing, they must have recently altered that because if you read the review, it is is mentioned as Illinois. 3)Metacritic has it listed as Illinois. 4)All of the publications that listed it in their end-of-year lists have it as Illinois, inlcuding but not limited to, Rolling Stone, Paste, Blender, SPIN, and Pitchfork.

So I guess that there are at least two of us - since I am not Steve Albini. Some dinosaurs go on the county fair route - getting gigs were ever they can - while other bands like Cheap Trick continue to put out great music even after nobody is listening. Coming up or going away - there is a lot of great music on the edge.

You should be careful what you say. You're really going to put off some people with that "serious music fan" comment. I consider myself a pretty serious fan, and I had it at #4 on my year end list. There are others on here who have better taste and knowledge then me, and probably had it even higher. You can maybe get away with insulting someone's taste, but you can't get away with insulting their dedication to music around here.

I played the 30 second snippets on iTunes, and her voice was slightly annoying. She plays a harp. That's interesting. I don't think I have any other harp players in my vast collection. There are only 5 songs and the album is 55 minutes long (why can't I download it at $.99 a song?). So, I'm intregued but nor sold yet.
Please, someone tell me why it is worth my $9.99.
It's worth your $9.99 because if you think the voice is only slightly annoying, you'll eventually get past that and be able to see the album for the masterpiece it is. ; ) Oh and if you're going to buy Ys buy a physical copy, not a downloadable one. The packaging has very high production value.

That's a NICE little mix, there. I really like the way you "juxtaposed," if you will, the TVOTR and Gnarls releases. If you REALLY wanted to mix it up, I'd say tie them for number one. Extra points from me for including the new DBT. Rock.
