I would challenge this. I like that Parts & Labor cd as well but the loudest album of this year has to go to The Goslings Grandeur of Hair. (which is also mighty amazing. #3 on my year end list)

while i certainly bump p&l every chance i get, ive gotta vote boris pink across the board in the "year's loudest" category

pound for pound i think jagjaguwar is one of the best indie labels out there... they put out atleast 5 stellar records this year, which i don't think you can say for matador in '06

Everyone's jumping the bit on this "loudest record of the year" comment. I was just going to leave it alone but.....

IF you haven't heard the Prurient Pleasure Ground record yet I'm pretty sure that it would be considerably louder than all of the things mentioned here. I barely had it turned up and it was mastered so hot and the frequencies so disparate (dramatically low end bass and piercing high pitched feedback) we're literally talking about a record that did physical damage to my speakers without me even having to turn it up. Compete with that.

Is it enjoyable? Is it a pleasure-inducing pain?

Heh. So far I've found a lot of the lists that "won't count" to be more interesting than a good amount of the ones that will.

Maybe some of the newcomers will stick around through the year. I've seen some cool lists.

I was wondering why we all of a sudden had so many people coming in to make lists, and then I saw that Metacritic has a link on the main site asking people to go ahead and list their favorite albums on the forums. I'm glad they did it. I'm sure some of them will stick around.

I for one plan to stick around! One of my New Year's Resolutions is to buy more new music in 2007. I think coming here will be a great help for finding artists I've never heard of, knowing when albums are coming out, and just getting excited about music in general from chatting with everyone here. I'm glad I stumbled onto this site Smiler

I was all ready to do my list and then I finally bought Liars' "Drum's Not Dead". Having been blown away by it on the first few listens, I now have to start all over with my list!!!

I've heard some songs of this album today at my record store. It seems to be good, looks like Warlocks/Brian Jonestown Massacre. I may purchase it very soon.

Hey VittorioE, great name, I love that track. The harmonies are great. Anyway, that's a good list (yes 7 of 10 are on my list). Make sure between now and Jan 15 that you get at least 30 posts so your list can count. Let RavingLunatic know once you've got 30 and he'll count it.

Mr.Natural, same goes for you.

Thanks for the tip, please excuse my not-so-worthy posts while I try to rack up my 30. I've been checking metacritic for quite a while but didn't even realize there was a message board until they put that link up. It's nice to see a community where people have good taste, rather than the nothing-but-metal attitude you find on the majority of the internet.

I'm not actually all that proud of my list to be honest...I tried to find some good albums that weren't in Pitchfork's "best" section this year, but they seemed to have all the bases covered. However, there are quite a few on other peoples' lists that I'll be checking out.
