At this point, I'd say, just post away your Waits love. I think it's been made acceptable by either too much love or not enough hate. Or maybe just Common Sense.

This is gonna be fun. I'm giving my list an overhaul each time I vote in any poll on any website I go to.
This year was just very fluid for me and music.

I know many detractors will be upset with me that I say this; but it is very disappointing to know that Return to Cookie Mountain will most likely be the number one album here. But what is even more disappointing is that rap/hip-hop is just not getting any respect on these lists. I don't think Subtle truly fits into this genre but I saw a Clipse and Ghostface in a couple of top ten's but other than that where is the The Roots great album, or Lupe Fiasco's impressive debut? Or even more, why aren't all four of these albums in a top twenty? Just, my opinion.

What are you talking about? We're five lists in, and three of the five contained hip/hop entries (I am counting Subtle). Personally, I haven't been that impressed with hip/hop this year. I didn't think the Ghostface, Clipse, or Roots albums were as impressive as their reviews indicated, and I have no problem naming 20 albums that were better than all three ( Return to Cookie Mountain is one of those albums). The only hip/hop release I heard this year that I really enjoy to any extent was J-Dilla's Donuts, which you may or may not count as hip/hop since it doesn't actually contain any rapping.

Because the people making those lists did not like those albums/did not listen to those albums? Just a guess.

All right, here we go. First of all, Subtle doesn't count as rap/hip-hop unless you are fishing to defend the fact that rap/hip-hop might be getting a fair share--this is true in your case. For that matter, it fits into the genre of experimental rock more than anything else. As for Jay Dee that album is clearly in the left-field hip-hop genre where the emphasis is placed on the beats as opposed to the actual MCing, so that would count. Now, with that being said, yes it is early--but just like you feel compelled to tally things up to see how far ahead TV on the Radio is--I wanted to see how rap is being represented. And at this rate, one rap/hip-hop album per list (if that were the case) would not be fair representation and right now with 2 rap/hip-hop albums out of 5 lists (that means 2 rap/hip-hop albums out of maybe 60-70 total albums--a lot are repeated--is not fair representation neither.)

That is a good guess, but there is really no reason why those albums should have not been listened to especially since The Roots, Clipse, and Ghostface Killah have high metascores and Lupe Fiasco's score is decent as well.

Well FKA, we could argue that many genre's aren't represented well here. As you can tell, this forum is geared towards indie-pop/rock/alternative. I don't think anyone's gonna put Justin Timberlake on their list even though he'll likely win some Grammys. I don't think My Chemical Romance will be on any lists either, so why aren't you crying for emo fans? I hope you aren't suggesting the lack of hip-hop/rap/r&b is racially motivated. You're a smart dude, but I find you enjoy the role of devil's advocate with all the arguments you get in on this site. Personally, I love the Roots album and it will certainly make my top 20. Clipse is really good, but I just don't know if I'll put it in the top 20 or not. It's an album full of singles and I only enojy maybe 8 out of 12 tracks. To be fair, I haven't heard the Subtle album, but I do want to (I tried to buy it at my local store but it wasn't available). I thought Lupe Fiasco was a big dissappointment. It just sounds like a wannabe Kanye without any bite. Just didn't sit well with me. By the way, Alan Jackson's metascore is 83. Call this a hunch, but I don't think we'll be seeing him on any year end lists (from this site).

Actually, it's 3 hip/hop albums (Clipse, Ghostface, and Jay-Z all showed up). It probably is underrepresented, but I could fill many pages with the list of genres that are underrepresented on these year end lists. How many Country, Pop, or Electronica albums have we seen so far? My advice is to load up your list with the albums you feel aren't getting the recognition they deserve.

Yeah I checked out the Alan Jackson album and it isn't anything special other than solid country music. But come on, Justin Timberlake being brought into this--we all know his album means nothing along with the My Chemical Romance album. I dont think they are emo either way but I am not standing up for them because their album stinks, that simple--in my opinion. I never said one thing about race, you did...I have never even once hinted at that, EVER, that I know for sure. As for "enjoying the role of devil's advocate." I dont enjoy starting arguments. If you read the posts I simply state my opinion--like everyone else here also does--and I guess people state their opinions in return. From there, I guess I just feel like I should defend myself since no one else does, that's all.

It all comes down to the fact that you like what you like, and it seems that here, most everybody likes indie/alternative/rock. Hip-hop is appreciated, sure, but I think that most people here enjoy other genres a whole lot more. We don't have a responsibility to be fair to all genres, we're just stating our tastes.

Actually, I quite liked Futuresex/Lovesounds. It does take a big dive in the second half though, which is what's keeping it off my top 20 list. I also enjoyed Timbaland's other pop production from this year, Nelly Furtado's Loose. That actually may make my top 20.
