I think this is the first time I have seen this on anybody's list, let alone this high. I like this choice, I really enjoyed this album and I feel like it is so underrated.
Me too, Frag. One of the few '06 releases I've heard.

I've just noticed that 6 of my 7 favorite albums have been released in June/July 2006. Weird. July is often a weak month for new releases by this year July gives me The Pipettes, The Sleepy Jackson, Guillemots... It may be the subject of a new thread, what do you think of the dates choosen by records companies to release albums ? Do you think they are to concentrated in too few months (mars, april, september, october) whereas months like july, august, november and december are almost blank ?

I just got back from my brother's house, and I just caught up with all the lists posted in the last few days. A quick reminder: There have been a lot of lists by people who are not eligible to have their votes counted yet. If you are one of these people and want your votes counted, you'll have to rack up 30 posts and notify me of when you do. Then I'll tally your list. I'm not gonna check up on every single user to see when they pass the 30 post mark.

You're welcome to post a list, steveotron. It just may not be tallied for the Metacritic user's final list. It's nice seeing new faces posting here, but to avoid having people with agendas trying to skew our list, we set a minimum number of posts to keep out the 'fly-by-nighters'. There's also another thread, not connected to the Final Metaforum Memeber list here. I agree with you on the Voxtrot eps. If that were a full-length record, it would be one of my faves for the year.

You have to listen to it at a high volume to fully appreciate it. Lots of squelches and squeals over roaring guitar and maniacal drumming, but with almost Celtic sounding melodies. Great.
I would challenge this. I like that Parts & Labor cd as well but the loudest album of this year has to go to The Goslings Grandeur of Hair. (which is also mighty amazing. #3 on my year end list)

This album (and band) is so much fun. They describe themselves on their website as "a mixture of old-time country, bluegrass, pop melodies, folk, rock n' roll, honky-tonk and ragtime." I'd say this album is heavier on the folk and rock n' roll and my favorite songs are the ones where they rock out as opposed to their slower, prettier numbers. If you decide to look into them and are wanting to check out specific songs, my favorites are Talk on Indolence and Colorshow. I think they have a catchy sound, and they're one of the few bands I listen to that honestly make me want to get up and dance around the house.

This is my first post, but I hope you find it in your heart to count it. Troy's Top 10: 1. The Hold Stead - Boys and Girls in America. It's all about sex, drugs, and some kick-*$$ rock-n-roll. 2. Todd Snider - The Devil You Know In his second straight classic, Todd relates stories of the down-and-out with his usual dry wit and keen observations. 3. The Decemberists - The Crane Wife About as good as an album with 10 minute three song suites about rape, murder, and Japanese folk tales can be. 4. Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam An excellent return to form for one of the best American rock bands of the last decade, if not ever. 5. Muse - Black Holes and Revelations A very timely post-apocalyptic space travel that rocks. 6. My Morning Jacket - Okonokos I was kinda luke warm on Z, but the band puts much more energy into this live album which sounds almost like it was studio recorded. 7. Paul Simon - Surprise This is a surprising album, especially in the way that Brian Eno's electronic flourishes blend so well with Simon's brand of folk-rock. 8. Bob Dylan - Modern Times I good album, but certainly not the best of the year. Dylan doesn't do anything on this album that he didn't do better on Love and Theft. 9. Elton John - The Captain and the Kid Okay, I'm a shameless Elton John fan. And, this is not an attempt to rekindle some of the magic of his classic Capatin Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy (after all, the title track does say "You can't go back, and if you try you fail"). But, no one else has made such a self-reflective and melodic album in recent memory. 10. The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth Many people forget that this album came out in 2006 (I think it was released January 3). Although the album contains a misstep or two, it shows the band growing beyond their lo-fi garage rock beginnings.
