I would have Hello Saferide on my list except that I counted it for 2005. It's a really good album in a genre I don't really much like. Also nice to see Silent SHout getting some love. I expected it to rate higher than it has been.

I do like the Built To Spill. A little long at times, but it usually keeps my interest. I'm not sure it will make my final list - maybe honorable mentions. But in most years, there's not much of a difference between my top 20 and my honorable mentions. 2006 is no exception.
Good to see Josh Ritter on a list! He's influenced by Dylan and Taylor but is his own person.

Also really like this album. The way the female singer sings and the way the music and beats are layered it seems to me like it recalls Björk's Debut in a way. quote: Originally posted by ericg75: Incidentally, last time I checked, TVOTR had about 100 points on Joanna Newsom, so they'd have to be omitted from a lot of lists for her to take first place.
I do like the Joanna Newsom album but it probably won't be in my top five and might just barely make my top ten. As for "banding together" I dont think that the are enough people here that don't like Return to Cookie Mountain to overthrow it. quote: Originally posted by ericg75: I'm surprised Built to Spill's You In Reverse isn't landing on more lists. Agree with this. I don't love You In Reverse but it is a rather good album. I also thought more people here would like it.

Nor do I. Like Sufjan Stevens last year, they've been on a pretty big majority of forum members' lists. I do feel your pain though. I didn't really like Illinois last year, and had to watch it command a huge lead over far superior albums like Gimme Fiction and Apologies to the Queen Mary.

The funny thing is that I didn't mind Illinois as number one at all. I am a big fan of his and I had his album last year at a solid #2, behind Z of course.

WTF? Are my eyes broken or is that the first listing of one of the year's best? I figured it would be passed over by many because most of the indie kids aren't cool enough to listen to the Phil Spector box set or Motown.....did a lot of you actually listen to it? And also, where the hell is I'm From Barcelona? I know it hasn't been released on CD here in the United States, but I figured many of you would have heard it....
I listened to and liked the Pipettes album. I imagine it'll be in my top 50, hey a lotta great albums this year (as with every year). I enjoyed I'm From Barcelona as well and have seen it around town (though quite pricey at some spots). Sucks that it's a copy controlled cd though.

This might surprise some, but after hearing a few whole songs, I'm just not sold on The Pipettes. I like the TV On The Radio, but don't expect it to make my top 20 list. Maybe top 50. I also loved Illinois by Sufjan Stevens - it was in my top 20 last year.

That Pipettes record gets sooooo oooold after the third song. Talk about one-trick ponies. Speaking of ponies, the only good thing about the Pipettes is to... y'know... ride them like ponies. OH! (rimshot)

I guess my list's as ready as it'll ever be:
1. The Hold Steady - Boys And Girls In America 2. Victory At Sea - All Your Things Are Gone 3. The Knife - Silent Shout 4. The Thermals - The Body The Blood The Machine 5. The Dresden Dolls - Yes, Virginia... 6. The Decemberists - The Crane Wife 7. Goldfrapp - Supernature 8. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not 9. Ghostface Killah - Fishscale 10. Heartless Bastards - All This Time 11. Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor 12. The Gossip - Standing In The Way Of Control 13. TV On The Radio - Return To Cookie Mountain 14. Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury 15. Be Your Own Pet - Be Your Own Pet 16. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones 17. The Dears - Gang Of Losers 18. The Long Winters - Putting The Days To Bed 19. Regina Spektor - Begin To Hope 20. Archie Bronson Outfit - Derdang Derdang
Man, looking at this list makes me realize how biased I am towards female vocalists, especially female vocalists in rock bands.

I'm updating it once a week. I'm not really keeping track of who's contributed so far, though.

You should post who's lists have been counted too, like Fiery did last year.

It's good to see another person with so many female artists in his/her list. I like a lot of male artists, but it always seems like my lists are majority female.

Nice to see that album on a list in here. I came pretty close to putting it on mine. They remind me of a heavier, looser version of Franz Ferdinand. It certainly will rock your socks off. Easily the best album to come out of England this year (Take that Arctic Monkeys!).

Even with this, mine, and at least one other I know of, it only puts Boys and Girls in America up 30. I don't see The Hold Steady pulling this one out, but I'm all right with TV on the Radio taking the flag. Now, if Islands win, I'll probably suddenly and inexplicably go deaf.

I see the Hold Steady beating TVOTR right now by 23 points. There were a couple lists I didn't count because they were by new members (Mathieu & goathouse). I believe RL said you had to be a member for two months or have 30 posts to be counted. I'd only go deaf if by chance Danielson's Ships made a strong comeback.
