My humor is greater than what you mortals call "making fun." I give your enthusiasm two checks, though.

I think the top three albums to check out from this year so far are:

1. Liars - Drum's Not Dead
2. TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
3. Murder by Death - In Bocca al Lupo

Although I have to say that Sonic Youth's Rather Ripped is creeping up on Murder by Death.

Islands
Cat Power
Howe Gelb

I'm actually not too happy with this year's stuff, but that's pretty much the best i've heard.

I recomend my personal best of British 2006:

1) Making Dens by Mystery Jets
2) A Life in the Day of B19: Tales of the Tower Block by Soweto Kinch
3) Inside In/Inside Out by The Kooks

Pretty sure none of them actually released their albums in the US, but they're all definately worth a look. The first two are really innovatve and the kooks are like a throwback to 50s/60s guitar rock n' roll/pop

Edit: thinking about it kooks have been released in the US, just didn't make any waves.

The Kooks record is quite good, maybe my fave Britpop record of the year, over The Rakes, The Arctic Monkeys, Ordinary Boys, and Hard-Fi.

I'm still waiting to pick up a few other British records from this year: The Rifles, Duels, and Idle Hands, for starters.

IMHO all of these 7 are pretty bad. If you want to get some British music please don't just dive into the throw-away indie darlings. I always find these bands' records may sound good at first but the tracks are so samey that the album becomes a terrible bore after a months. There's alot of good over here and most of it isn't these mock-Oasis bands or Post Punk revivalists.
