What record(s), under NO circumstances, are you listening to this year?

I'll go first.

Beyonce's upcoming, JT's upcoming... (I prefer consumption of singles when it comes to these artists, which is what "they" want you to do anyway).

Mobb Deep - Blood Money
Busta Rhymes - The Big Bang
Hard Fi's new record, whatever the hell it's called
anything by The Streets
anything released by The Rakes
Be Your Own Pet - s/t
all but one track of Secret Machines - Ten Silver Drops
Outkast - Idlewild OST
Any by OR FEATURING Young Jeezy
No less than 98 percent of dancehall rap
Birdman's inevitable solo album

Last year's thread about not liking/listening to music.

I'm with mark. I hardly have time to talk about all the stuff I like. What's the point of wasting time on the stuff you don't?

Now Playing: "Fantastic Day" Haircut One Hundred" Pelican West

One can pare down their tastes better from burning the candle at both ends, you know what I mean?

I don't mean to be negative...

You make a good point and I don't think you, in particular, are trying to be negative. You have too much enthusiasm elsewhere by far.

Over the past year, though, we've had far too many smart, open-minded members with wide-ranging taste give up on the forums because of a small group of prolific posters who seem to take more pride in prattling on about what they've decided they hate in their short listening lives rather than considering that they might find a bit of joy if they'd try opening their ears a little.

It's been better lately. I'm hoping that will continue and that some of our old friends might come back.

Now Playing: The Tigers drubbing, drubbing the Cubs 12-2 in the 8th

Well I hope so, too.

Also, if you care to check on my blog again, you'll see I've put up a brand new post. Check it.

I don't have to check. I have your RSS in my aggregator so that you're delivered to my handheld computer whenever something new comes crawling out of your brain, across the keyboard, and onto the 'net.

Now Playing: Blahblahblah...Cubs losing...blahblahblah...Prior gets rocked...blahblahblah...Dusty Baker has a job, why?

I gave this thread 5 checks for pointing to my witty banter of December 2005.

I DID listen to Scott Walker, but I won't listen to it again. Does that count?

I'm pretty sure I won't listen to any of the big hip-hop and rap releases of 2006, even the ones with indie cred.

Same here. I also won't be listening to:

Keane - Under The Iron Sea.
Futureheads - News and Tributes.
Secret Machines - Ten Silver Drops.
Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped.
Scott Walker - The Drift.

I'll try to remember on January 1, 2007 to list all the records I didn't listen to.

Is that not a little rigid? Whenever people say that stuff, I always get the impression they think all rap is "gangsta rap," but perhaps you have good reasons. Care to share?

I'm with pE on this one. I like The Streets and I can get into a little MF Doom, but I've grown to really despise rap. I don't know if it's the adverse effect on mainstream culture or just an imitation of it (chicken or the egg?), or if the lyrics don't resonate with me, or what.

I guess I don't have an answer. But I have a post!
