Didn't realize it was a reissue when I bought a copy of Stereo Total's Juke-Box Alarm. I had seen their albums before but never heard them. I really dig that internartional electro-pop thing they do and will definately be hunting down the back catalog.

Low's Things We Lost in the Fire is probably my favorite album I've picked up yet this year. I bought The Great Destroyer last year, my first Low album, and I liked it, but not really enough to look into their back catalog. I saw this album on sale at Borders and had heard nothing but praise for it, I like TGD, so I bought it.
It is amazing. Can someone reccomend one of their other older albums? I know they've put out quite a few.

Trust is a Low album I would recommend. That's the only other Low album, along with The Great Destroyer, that I own. I'll check out TWLINF, though.
I just bought a 2005 four song EP from Lavender Diamond, called "The Cavalry of Light." I like it a lot. It's a little hippy-ish, but the singer, Becky Stark, has a really compelling (albeit thin), almost operatic voice. She's particularly good on the first song, "You Broke My Heart." Most of the song’s lyrics are Stark repeating the song's title over and over, with understated musical accompaniment (although the music swells in the background as the song progresses). But the power of the song -- and it is powerful -- lies in Stark's commitment to the line "You broke my heart." She seems totally consumed with the lyric each time she sings it, punching it harder and harder with each repetition, until you're swept up in her delivery. It’s a really well done song, and shows the power of simple arrangement and delivery. The rest of the EP is really good, too.
I finally picked up Thee More Shallows "more deep cuts" about week ago, thanks to the recommendations of a few metacritic members. The album blows me away. It's really, really good. Definitely the most satisfying and rewarding cd purchase I've made since sufjan's "illinois", maybe even more so.

Sweet. And for the record, it was I who got the Metacritic lovefest for TMS going. I'm so proud!

yep, thanks from me too. They have a new EP entitled Monkey vs. Shark due out in May. The song 'I Can't Get Next To You' (an Al Green cover) from the EP is my favourite song of the year so far.

I just last night finally got Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine, and it is just lovely. Quite enjoyable. I also just recently got Coheed and Cambria's In Keep Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, and I rather liked that too. Oh, snap. I almost forgot that I just got Squarepusher's Music Is One Rotted Note. Now that's pretty frickin' cool.

A band that I discovered about 5 minutes ago is Tilly and the Wall. I heard the song "Reckless" on my local college station on my way to McDonalds this morning and I just finally was able to track down the band. Instead of a drummer, one of the women in the groups tap dances, and oddly enough, it's really effective. I've only listened to a few songs off their 2004 album Wild Like Children, but I'm loving them.

Yeah, that EP's an overlooked gem. I especially like the opening song "A Favor."

Broken Social Scene's album Feel Good Lost is an album that I've been listening to constantly this week. Okay, I'm cheating a little, for this isn't "new to me in 2006", but I didn't fully appreciate it until this year. I think I was initially let down because there were no lyrics, which I was expecting when I first played it. But as instrumental albums go, this right up there with some of the best. All the songs are at least decent, with the majority I would classify with as great. The songs are very melodic, and I find that I can lost in them pretty easy. I maybe in the minority on this, though.
A low-profile folk band named Unbunny has really impressed me. Their 2002 album Black Strawberries is their best in my opinion, but 2004's Snow Tires and last year's Typist EP are really good as well.
The singer's voice is a dead ringer for Neil Young, especially in their last two releases. There are no complicated arrangements, but it's not really lo-fi either; the recordings are reasonably clear. It's just really well-written songs that get under your skin.

I've heard almost all of Phil Elvrum's stuff now. I haven't stopped listening to them since I bought The Glow. They are in my top 3 bands of all time now. I love them a lot.
