Been checking out Beirut Live on You Tube. Wasn't sure if they could recreate it live. They do a pretty damn good job. Here's Postcards from Italy (one of the top 20 or so songs) live. The group is very young, they are going to be great:

Harder to tally too. There's such a variety of entries coming in. Already, I think there's something like 470 different songs that have been named.

I think I'm going to try to devise a different system for this next year. Maybe a two tiered method where we have nominations, then a final vote.

We still have time to do that this year, especially since I'll be gone between Christmas and New Year's. Cool

Really like this choice...never was a huge Gomez fan, but was surprised by how much I love the top three or four songs on How We Operate, and your choice is IMHO the best of that bunch.

I listed my 30 upthread, and I'll stick with them. But I wanted to note a fantastic song that I just heard: Rani, from Rachid Taha's album Diwan 2. I can't say enough about it: The rhythm is hypnotic, the beat ridiculous, and the lyrics passionate and alive (the English translations are on his website).

In fact, Taha's whole album is great, and its moving fast up my Best Of 2006 List. Late-year surprises like Diwan 2 are why I'm waiting to post my Best Of list until early 2007.

That's why the most polls are limited to singles only. It gets a little fuzzy at times with what counts as a single and what year it should be considered but in the end it's a lot easy to tally.

You are pretty much guaranteed to like most of Muse's catalog if you enjoyed this more than, say, Assassin. Absolution is full of songs that are about this mellow, and Origin of Symmetry would probably be a good buy for you as well.

(I'm assuming you haven't bought any of these in the few weeks since you said you hadn't. Wink)
