That's how it worked last year. There's nothing to stop you from posting as many records as you want, but RL will obviously only count the top 20.

Heh, I'm actually putting in work to make my list go up to 20! Usually I just do ten. I wouldn't be surprised if the albums at the bottom aren't just albums I heard but didn't like.
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

I believe you can post less than 20 if you want too, unless RL changed the rules of this. If there's only 10 albums you like, you can just post 10. At least that's how we did it last year. A couple people only had top 10 or top 15 lists. 20 is just the maximum that will be counted.

Yeah, but that wouldn't be good. Giving points to an album you didn't like just to fill to twenty. Like ericg75 says...if you like only 10 albums...or even 12, just post your list as it represents what YOU like in 2006. If album #13 - 20 represents what YOU DON'T like, don't feel the presure to list those.

Well, it looks like I'll probably have 20 that I like. 15-20 will probably belong to those uneven albums that have some great songs and some so-so songs. The stuff that I actively dislike won't make it on.

I'll be contributing, of course. Count me in. I think I just barely eek past the post number requirement. (feel the sarcasm)

Uh, December 1st? I think that sounds good.

That seems like a decent start, but these should be FINAL when you post 'em. No 'buyer's remorse' if you get something after you've posted your list, and no backsies or changesies.

I believe we have an approximate cut-off date of Jan. 15 in place.

Yeah, that sounds good to me. I've actually come around to the idea of a late cutoff date, so if people want it even a bit later (maybe so you can get more ideas from other people's/publications' year-end lists), that's fine by me.

Whatever cut-off date, I'm going to wait until last minute to post mine. I'm sure something fabulous passed me by this year, that Popmatters or Pitchfork can tell me about. As it is, my TOP 20 is relatively LAME. Thank God for The Hold Steady. And Yo La Tengo.

Yeah, that's why, if it weren't for the extra complexity and effort involved, the pazznjop method would be preferable. Some people really like their 18th pick, and others don't really care for much after 10.

Yeah, it did. Sorry, didn't mean to confuse anyone. Just making an editorial comment is all.

Maybe next year we can all save ourselves a headache by picking a top 10 with our current points system and throwing 10 'shout-outs' a point each. (I just don't want to deal with 11–20.)
I'd have a much easier time filling out a top 10. As I said last year, there isn't a ton of difference in quality between my #11 and #20 albums. Depending on what I'm in the mood for, I could enjoy #20 just as much as #11.

and really, does anyone have 20 favorite albums from this year? this is going to be tough.
sucks that the two best albums i've heard this year come out next year (of montreal and the shins).
hip hop fans, do NOT post your list until you hear the Clipse album (11/28).

I'm just wondering if we need a third thread for the actual, final lists. Most people post their "Top up-to-infinity-if-you-want" at the "Best Records of 2006" thread. Then, people list their final count which they want tabulated to go to the Metacritic Best of 2006 Music Page, usually not more than 20 and irreversible, here or in some different thread where people can just look at the lists instead of reading about how to count the lists. I'm all for less is more, but I want to make sure that it's not too confusing, especially for members who weren't here last year. We can pin this thread or a new one to the top of the Best of 2006 Forum, just as we did last year, when Dec. 1 rolls around.
