I've been wondering what Califone's been up to, as it's been two years since they released an album and I hand't heard anything. Turns out they've already completed their next album and it's gonna be out in the fall. They're also doing a lot of film work, according to Pitchfork:

I'm not sure they have an album coming out this year, but did anyone else catch Wilco on Conan a couple days ago? They played a fantastic song that I had never heard before called "Is that the thanks I get." Apparently Tweedy wrote it for Solomon Burke a while back. I hope that their next album sounds like this song, as the blue-eyed soul thing that they have going on really worked for me.

TV on the Radio and Danielson's newest albums are albums I can't wait to hear. Damn US Post Office needs to hurry up and get my "Ships" here!

I almost forgot that Thom Yorke and Radiohead as a full band both have albums coming out this year (thanks RL)! Just read on Billboard.com that Yorke's solo effort will be out in July, with the first single being featured in Richard Linklater's new movie, "Scanner Darkly" (it will play during the end credits). Radiohead will probably be in late fall/early winter as they are still working on it.

I just finished up my list of albums I'm looking forward to in 2006. Hopefully, these don't let me down as much as the albums I anticipated in the first 5 months of the year.

Guster – June 13
Jason Molina – July
Thom Yorke – July 11
Sufjan – July 25
Junior Boys – August
Califone – September
Magnolia Electric Co – September

Wrens
Britt Daniels
!!!

EDIT: I forgot to mention (ex-Delgado) Emma Pollock, whose record is due out this fall.

I'll say it again.

SHIPS is SILLY and FUN and CLEVER and WITTY and MAGICAL and it's one big happy super party even better than Thursday night at that Italian restaurant and I keep listening and listening and listening and the hooks are like OH BABY like a kick to the face from a delicious des(s?)ert food and they never get old or stale or rotten or boring or icky and I like how he makes the word "Priority" rhyme with four different sounding words on "Two Sitting Ducks."

I want to hear TV On The Radio as well, yo.

The only album in the absolute immediate future I'm psyched about is the Primal Scream one that's supposed to be in an Exile on Main St style.

Of course, then there's all the ones that don't have confirmed release dates yet.

I'm always skeptical of solo releases from people from great bands, so I'll wait till I hear Thom Yorke's.

I haven't listened myself yet, but every person I've seen talk about the new Primal Scream album said it was horrible. I guess it's another Give Out But Don't Give up, take that as bad or good, depending on what you thought of that album.

New Mastodon, bitches. I got inside info that they've finished mixing the record and are going to start mastering soon. My guess is it'll be out by the end of the summer.

Also Nas' recently-announced record in September, "Hip Hop Is Dead."

There's also, like someone else mentioned, records from Ted Leo and Travis Morrison coming out (T.Mo's should be imminent... he's had long enough! At least Teddy released some acoustic demos) which I'm stoked for.

I heard rumblings some time ago about Britt Daniel pulling a Jack White/Loretta Lynn-type collab, except Britt wants to revitalize the career of Bonnie Raitt, which I think is an amazing idea. I actually really like her music. If this pans out, I will be so stoked.

Anyone curious as to what Michael Jackson's new material might sound like in the nearer-than-you-think future? He's having the Price of Bahrain fund his new record. I'm not joking.

Michael Jackson's music will suck, just like it has on every album since Dangerous. And I think Bonnie Raitt is cool, too, so that Britt Daniels thing could be sweet. I'm looking forward to the new Sonic Youth, and I also hear Lyrics Born is putting out a new record this year, so that will obviously be great.

I'm looking forward to the long-awaited release of the Big Star tribute Big Star, Small World, which was recorded in the 90's but not released until May 2006.

After hearing a bunch of tracks on various blogs the last couple of days, I'm really looking forward to picking up the Keene Brothers record. It is Tommy Keene and Robert Pollard's new record, and the four tracks I've heard are really, really good. Definately buying this.

I'm sort of looking forward to Primal Scream's "Riot City Blues". I haven't really paid too much attention to them since they stopped imitating the Stones and started imitating the Chemical Brothers, but the new album looks like they've decided to return to their Stonesy days, so it might be alright.

I like Bob and think Tommy's great. It should be a good 'un.

I'm also looking forward to the debut solo record from Tim O'Reagan who was/is the drummer in the Jayhawks and was once one of the two main guys in the Leatherwoods. His songs with the Jayhawks were always show highlights, and the Leatherwoods record Topeka Oratorio is a great lost 80's Minneapolis scene record (it features guest appearances by Paul Westerbeg, AKA "Pablo Lousearama")

I hope they do a new anything good and not super pretentious. I don't want any difficult for the sake of being difficult boring mainstream poo poo. I love Cedric and Omar, but I don't trust them so much on Universal.
