I think he does a pretty good job with this perfomance! Cool

That is just on the DVD extra, not on the actual album.

I heard this old Dylan expert/professor guy speak (he wrote a book recently about Dylan's references to sin?), and he said that the main difference between Dylan's early stuff and his stuff the last ten years is that now he is so seasoned (old) that he no longer takes the kind of risks he did when he was young, and I think this is pretty accurate. The stuff on Love and Theft (and probably Modern Times too) sounds like it has been around for decades, while the stuff in the 60's still sounds innovative/exciting. His newer songs don't sound like they took any effort to write at all, as if Dylan just collected bits and pieces of all the weird shit he reads, got in a room with his band, and saw what happened.

What weird shit does he read? Metacritic? Big Grin
Anyway, I have the thing ordered, with the bonus DVD, and we shall see. Haven't heard a note off it to be honest, but I'm looking forward to it...

Agree. I mean, maybe Rolling Stone tends to give established (old) artists the benefit of the doubt, I am definitely looking forward to Modern Times.

I saw on the Metacritic upcoming release calendar that Damien Jurado's got one coming out in October.

I've never been a Tom Waits fan, but I think I want to be now.

I normally don't like greatest hits albums, but Beautiful Maladies: The Island Years is a terrific introduction to Waits. Like all greatest hits albums, it omits a few gems, but you still get 23 great tracks with not a dog in the bunch.

Screw the greatest hits. I just want to listen to a triple album that goes by the name of ORPHANS: BRAWLERS, BAWLERS AND BASTARDS.

I'm hearing some real good early reviews on the Jurado. It's suppose to be an all acoustic-type affair, a real downer. I like it when Jurado is down, it's when he is best....I have heard one song so far from the new album and it was awesome....can't wait.

I've listened to it a couple times, and it doesn't seem like all that much of a sad album to me. I don't think it's real good either. I'll give it some more time though.

How did you like On My Way To Absence, Marlon? I think it was his worst album.

On My Way To Absence is AWFUL. Completely agree with you. His album prior to that "Where Shall You Take Me" is probably my fave of his with Ghost of David and Rehearsals for Departure tied. I hope the new one falls somewhere in with those, but from what you're saying, sounds like it's another On My Way To Absence. Strange, I did like the one and only song I have heard from the album, maybe the rest of it stinks.

A 2006 release that I'm particularly excited about is Live a Little, the new one from the Pernice Brothers. It's due in October.

If you pre-order the album direct from the band, you get a bonus CD of demos and alternate tracks. Joe has been providing bonus goodies with direct purchase for as long as the Bros have been putting out records, including bonus tracks, lyrics collection, and autographed art pieces.

I fully expect the new one from the Black Keys to blow my current list out of the water. I love those guys. It's due out on the 12th, the same day as the new Junior Boys. I have high hopes for both.

Mastodon - "Blood Mountain"

and

The Decemberists - "The Crane Wife"

Yeah, two very different genres, I know.

If you played those two back-to-back, the gates of Hell would open up and a bunch of English lit majors would serenade you with 12th century epic tales while the Devil shreds your soul. I think. Big Grin

Man. I hate to see what would happen if I play Carcass back-to-back with Belle & Sebastian Wink Is that like saying "Candyman" five times into a mirror in the dark?

I'm guessing there will be a lot of anticipation for the Sufjan Xmas box set. I'm not really on the Sufjan bandwagon, but I like Xmas music and I think Sufjan has his moments, so I'm at least curious.

A triple album by Tom Waits? I think I'm there!

Didn't like his last album, Real Gone, as much as I did his earlier works, but I'll take 54 new Tom Waits songs any day. At worst, I can always condense my 12 or so favorite songs to one cd, making it an amazing album.

Speaking of condensing albums down to a manageable level, am I the only one to condense the last Eels record to one cd? I got it down to 17 really good/great songs, instead of 30-something songs.
