Looking forward to the new DJ Shadow and new Mountain Goats. Plus, like I've said a million times here..... NEW MASTODON!!!!!!

Second to expectations for Shadow and Mastodon.

Also new Sparklehorse in September. I think the last half of this year could be huge.

For fans of the great americana/alt-country act - Richmond Fontaine, you can now purchase their new Live album - Live at the Doug Fir Lounge at http://www.decorrecords.com or their website http://www.richmondfontaine.com . In other news, the band has been working hard on their newest album down at the legendary Wave Lab Studios in Tucson, Arizona. Calexico and Howe Gelb are some of the guests guesting on the album. Richmond Fontaine new Live album news and New Album news

I bet this album is going to be awesome.

I second that notion. Could very well be a monster 5 months.

YES!

I'm quite excited about this, too. I've got all of the other limited (mail order and tour-only) RF releases, and they're all good, so this is a cool deal.

Yeah, I am pretty psyched about the live album, but a new RF is what really excites me, especially if made at my favorite recording studios - Wave Lab. Throw in Burns/Convertino(Calexico) and Gelb and this no doubt should be an awesome record.

Fontaine is my fave band going, I think. Winnemucca and Post To Wire are two of my favorite albums released this decade. The low-key sparse affair - The Fitzgerald is awesome as well.

I wish Metacritic would pay more attention to these cats.

Man, Richmond Fontaine in Tucson sounds fantastic. I've said it before around this board in different places, but Wave Lab is definately my favorite recording studio as well. In fact, it may be the only place that gets me excited about a record simply by where it is recorded.

Also, I recently picked up an older RF album, lost son, and it is great. I had always heard that their early albums were only so-so uncle tupelo knock-offs, but I think it sounds great, and stands up well next to their more recent albums.

Yeah, Wave Lab is definitely my fave studio. Most of my favorite records are made out of their. RF and Wave Lab seems to me to be a match made in heaven. With Calexico and Gelb on board you just know it's gonna be rich.

Yeah, I have most their limited/tour cd's as well.

Richmond Fontaine is one of those bands that seems to get better with each album. I believe they are hitting their stride now and hoping this next one is their Exile on Main Street. If I was new to Richmond Fontain I'd start with buying Winnemucca and then Post To Wire...and if you end up loving those two and are a completist then go to their back catalogue

I got my copy yesterday, and it's really good. Great sound quality, great set (all of The Fitzgerald and then some), and great playing. They are, consistently, one of the best alt-country/americana bands going.

PE - The word on the street here in Canberra is the Sleepy Jackson album is something of a masterpiece. Luke Steele certainly has his gaze aimed WAY past regular rock.

Will report when I get it this week.

I still haven't ordered my copy yet. They are playing Seattle soon so I may take the run across the border and see them, get the album then.

I agree about them being the most consistent and best alt-country/americana band going. I don't think anyone in the genre can touch them.

I saw an ad in the new issue of Harp for a Wave Lab comp featuring new tracks by RF, Calexico, Robyn Hitchcock and others which looked coolio...

Well, they just released the first track from Lambchop's soon to be released album damaged all over the internet. It sounds great, and even if this hadn't already been my most anticipated record of the year, it certainly would be now. I can't wait for to hear the whole album.

If you care about bonus discs, there's a 2-disc version of the record coming out. I think it's an import, but I'm not sure. I found it pretty cheap ($20 including shipping) online.

I've just got some inside scoop on the new Richard Buckner 'Meadows'. The word is "IT'S A MASTERPIECE" and this is coming from some very highly critical folks. They don't use 'MASTERPIECE' lightly. Some of the early reviews on it have me jumping with excitement. I am getting my advanced copy from this same network, next week. I'll keep ya posted. Apparently JD FOSTER's production on is nothing short of amazing. FOSTER IS BEHIND SOME OF THE RICHMOND FONTAINE MAGIC.

Hey Raving Lunatic...this same group of people have also got the early advance on the new James Yorkston and the word is "STUNNING", "AMAZING". I'll be getting my advance copy of this one along with the new Buckner, next week as well. I'll keep ya posted.

Red Face In this context that emoticon means I'm excited. Either that, or embarassed from having shat my pants in joy.

Just Beyond the River has really grown on me, and it's become a favorite of mine. I was playing it once in our toyroom and my mom even remarked that "Hermitage" was a "pretty song." It's not often that there's something my mom and I can agree on musically. She's a big Clay Aiken fan.

Well, I've heard James Yorkston's Year of the Leopard, and, to be honest, it sounds boring and unremarkable after a couple listens. I'll give it more time, but I don't think it's promising. He even includes a corny spoken-word song. Ugh.
