Ehhh, the only thing of his that I've heard is I See A Darkness, and I just thought it was all right.

I remember reading somewhere that Ted Leo had enough songs to make an album, but that he wasn't sure if some of the songs were right for the next record he wants to make. I do think it's supposed to come out this year. I have it on my list, anyways, and I don't think I would've put it there if I didn't read somewhere that it'll be out in 2006.

Also, you can add Beck to the list. Pitchfork had a story earlier today saying it would probably come out this fall. It's gonna be produced by the same guy who did Mutations and Sea Change, which are my two favorite records of his. They said it's something of a hip-hop record though, which distresses me. I don't mind instrumental hip-hop stuff, but I can't stand rapping.

If the Mangum thing turns out to be true, than that is easily the most anticipated record of this, (or any) year for me. I've been on a huge NMH kick lately, and I'm starting to think "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" may be my favorite album ever. The other anticipated releases:

Sufjan Stevens
Thom Yorke (although I've already heard it)
The Mountain Goats
M. Ward
Bob Dylan (!!!)
The Shins
Wilco (?!?)

I see they finally took the alleged Pixies album off of the upcoming releases list. I'm simultaneously relieved and saddened.

Just found out that Richard Buckner will be releasing his newest cd - Meadows Sept. 12th. I absolutely dug his last one - Dents and Shells. Can't wait for this. It's produced by JD Foster who did all those great Richmond Fontaine cd's.

Tiny Mix Tapes deflated the Magnum hype today but I also forgot to mention my anticipation (top o' the list anticipation) for Joanna Newsom's release later this year. SHould be a top year indeed. I wonder if Animal Collective will release all their new songs too. When I heard them in November of 05 they had some incredible new stuff.

Two releases that I am really looking forward to:

Junior Boys So This is Goodbye (which they seem to keep pushing back)
The Dears Gang of Losers

Is it actually confirmed that Arcade Fire, Shins, and Wilco will be ready for release this year? All I've seen is the date on a list.

I hope so. Wilco's pretty much guaranteed to be at at least a certain level, and I can't wait to see where Arcade Fire goes following Funeral.

I just found out that Alasdair Roberts has a new album coming out this fall. It will be his first album with original songs since 2003's excellent Farewell Sorrow (No Earthly Man, released last year, was all traditional folk songs). Should be good. This brings my anticipated second-half 2006 records to 22. I probably won't get to much beyond that.

Wow!! My anticipated albums for the second-half of 2006 are ZERO. But, I will be listenin' out there, and as the Beatles said, "I'm a Loser"!! (Gotta be a better song than 99.99% of the new ones. Cool)

I love new music, but I love old music too! Check 'em out, forgodssake!

Yeah, I've been wanting to hear some Beatles albums sometime. I refuse to buy a major-label release, but I can get all the classic old stuff from the library. Sometime I'll get around to the Beatles.

I really don't like much Classic Rock. By classic rock, I mean, like 70's rock stuff. Led Zeppelin, and the like. I really get the impression that the 60's are where it's at when it comes to old stuff, so that's where I'll start.

I'm not in any real hurry though, 'cause I find plenty enough music I really like among new releases. And I like making lists. Big Grin

Seriously.

Not really. There's good music in any decade. I don't think the 60s are inherently any better than any other decade. Regardless of your taste in music, I'm sure you could find something to appreciate from the 70s and 80s as well. The 70s aren't all Led Zeppelin and Bob Seger. You just have to dig.

Yeah, I know there's good music in each decade. Heck, there's good music in each year, probably each month. It's just that when I look at what was popular in the 80's, for example, and also look at the 'best albums of the 80's' lists, of the stuff I've heard, I don't like any of it hardly. I've heard I think 3 Sonic Youth albums, and the only one I liked at all was Murray Street. The stuff I've heard from the 60's I've liked for the most part, so I figure that's at least the place for me to start.

Whoa whoa whoa. Hold everything. Bob Dylan has a new album coming out on August 29th? Why didn't someone tell me about this? That easily climbs to most anticipated for me, along with this supposed new Jeff Mangum album. I am suspicious of that though.

Hate to break it to you, Pax, but that whole thing was a hoax. TMT and Pitchfork had news pieces about it a few days ago.
