I guess it depends on your definition of amazing. I think there's been some great stuff released this year, but on the other hand, I still haven't heard anything that really blows me away.

How much discussion did you expect to generate with such a vague poll/topic? Any comments or conversation will easily fit into a handful of other topics.

...and if Yay! or any other member decide to comment on what albums they think are great, then this topic will contain very similar content to many other Best of '06 topics. So, like I said, this topic is pointless.

I agree with RavingLunatic about the Knife "silent shout" though. At first, the album didn't do that much for me. But the more I listen to it, the more I realize it's an exceptional album. Not an "illinoise" but damn good.
Hey Bullfinch, what, in your estimation, is truly great? (obviously not from this year) I would offer maybe Sign 'o' the Times or The La's as something great from the past.
I find both Arctic and Belle to be interesting, catchy, and of the moment, yet somehow different than their contemporaries.
Its easy to dismiss, more difficult to make a statement.

There's been one - Destroyer's Rubies - that, whether you love every inch of it or not, comes closest to an Illinois-size triumph.
And one, from a little band called TV on the Radio, has leaked to those awful file-sharing networks and is, in my opinion, the best album of the year as of now. So there's been one, and another's coming up shortly (7/3 for you UK people, 8/1 for us bloody Americans).
Arctic Monkeys - mediocre. Belle & Sebastian - pretty darn good, but nothing jawdropping.
Also, the Walkmen's new one, Boris's Pink, and The Knife's Silent Shout are all great.

Very much agreed. Other than those two, for me there's been a lot of 'noteworthy' albums; Islands, Futureheads, Neko Case, Loose Fur, Hot Chip, etc.
I think it's been a very, very good year, lots of worthy listens if you look hard enough, and honestly I prefer 10 worthy listens over one must have. Lots of time left. I have high expectations for the new Shins as well as the Junior Boys, and I'm sure many others I can't recall at the moment. Anyone know of a new Madvillain release?

What is your opinion on your own question? You can't just pick through other people's opinions and refute them without offering any basis. There have been some I like very much, but I'm not sure there has been an amazing release for me yet. That said, this thread feels a bit redundant to me.

I don't see what the point of this thread is, either. What are we getting here that we don't get at the numerous other threads in the Best of 2006.
If you wanted to say that nothing, so far, in 2006 was really amazing, did we need a whole thread with a vague poll to do it? Why not go to the "Best Records of 2006" and say "there hasn't been one"?
And, as others have pointed out, there's no context on 'amazing'.
I won't say the poll is pointless, but it is redundant.
I could list several records from 2006 I find 'amazing' but I've already done so in other threads.

That's exactly what he is doing, which was my point from the beginning. So far, he has offered no original thought; only picking at the opinions of others with no explanation why. That is trulytruely silly.
