Thanks for making an entire post dedicated to this!!
As of now, I completely agree (and I have the feeling that this will definitely stand the test of time, so it might end up at the top of my list by the year's end).
It is mindblowingly brilliant, start to finish. It's so jam-packed with energy that listening to the album is exhilarating (it makes for great music to run to).
"R.A.G.U." might be my favorite track, but there are so many highlights...

I don't really know if it's appropriate to have an entire thread dedicated to somebody's favorite album from 2006. It would get ridiculous if everyone made a new thread when they thought a great album came out. Why not just express your love for Fishscale in the "Best Albums of 2006" thread like everyone else?

There's entire threads on Belle & Sebastian's The Life Pursuit, and Band of Horses Everything All the Time. So not everyone is expressing their love for individual albums only at the "Best of 2006" thread.

I made a seperate thread because I didn't wanna discuss every album from 2006....just this one. Sifting through 20 pages talking about albums I've never heard of just to see if my post had been replied to would be kinda annoying.
If you've heard the album, and love it (like myself) then discuss it here....that's wht I made this for.
Anyways....back to the topic:
I'm thinking this album might be better than Pretty Toney....I love the soul samples on almost every track, they blend in so well with Ghost's style.

I diasagree. I think this thread would fit best in the genre section (rap/hip hop) because people who might be looking to talk about Ghostface might not look here.
There's nothing wrong with an entire thread on an album, I just think it should go where it's most likely to get seen: in the genre-specific area.
Any other thoughts?

Well, my response was based on what's been done in the Best/Worst of Movies for 2004 and 2005. It hasn't caused a problem over there, but that's the "poor side of town".
P.S. I already linked the Ghostface Thread in Rap/Hip-Hop to this thread.

But..this may be based on a misinterpretation of the lyrics, but the moment I heard them talking about 'kilos' I immediately decided 'Okay, no reason to care about the lyrics' and started ingoring them.
Please correct me if my association of 'kilos' with the type of crime-based marketting most popular rap uses is incorrect. (Like if it's supposed to be some kind of ironic anti-drug statement that flew over my head)

Kilos do refer to drugs, but Ghostface has been around forever, and isn't necessarily bragging about selling so much. I have avoided reading reviews of the album, but I get the impression it is a concept album about (or at least the album is themed around) a very specific time in his past, including a period of time in which he sold drugs.
Maybe I'm insane, but it seems to be a narrative of his life when he was younger and stupider.
That said, I'm pretty sure I'm madly in love with this album.

It's not supposed to an anti-drug statement at all....it's supposed to be a sort of story-telling track. Ghost speaking on his past experience...stuff like that. From the title of the album, you would have to imagine that there would be some talk of coke...no?
At least Ghost speaks about it with substance and style....and that's the difference between him and all the other mainstream "crime-based rap". Besides, if you don't listen to the rest of album, you're really missing out.
ghostface's album is definitely the best of 2006 so far... no other album has even come close. the best of 2006 thread is dominated by cat power and jenny lewis, who are both amazing artists that put out decent but far from outstanding records this year. it's my favorite ghostface album ever... but with mf and madlib it's really hard to go wrong. it's gonna be a great year for hip hop- we have gnarls barkley and another madvillian album sometime this year...
btw-i thought there was supposed to be a strictly MF doom/ghostface album coming out... did that just turn into fishscale or is that still being planned?

Hmmm... this is my problem with a lot of recent hip-hop (excepting Doom, mostly) - Fishscale has a TON of awesome tracks, but I'm not convinced it's actually a great ALBUM. Something about the track-to-track progression just doesn't gel with me. Of course, in the mp3/iPod/make-your-own-mix-CD age, maybe I just haven't adjusted to the fact that the album is no longer attempting to provide some unified experience. Thoughts?
Yeah, Supreme Clientele is still his best work (and one of the best rap albums of the decade, easily). Still I think Fishscale is probably the best album of the year so far... I haven't been completely floored by anything yet, but Fishscale has come the closest.

Ok, i've had this album for threee weeks now. It's definitely not the best album of the year, not even close, IMHO.
Yeah, it's a pretty good rap album, nothing groundbreaking or original though. Just some brothas doing some skits and putting together some decents raps with some good beat...havin' a good time.
I think Kanye made rap music cool for indie fans to listen to, and his albums were certainly great. All the indie cool jumped on the Kanye bandwagon. Kanye's albums made a whole lot of white boy indie fans think they know rap. I'll bet you that 90% of all the indie dudes who jumped on the Kanye bandwagon have 2 rap albums in their whole music collection, College Dropout and Late Registration. So now I see indie fans trying to make this fishscale album the new indie cool rap album. It's no classic, it doesn't even have a "goldigger" or "diamonds of sierra leone" type hit on the album. It's just your basic decent rap album, imo.
I will tell you this. I work in Santa Ana, and I was born in Compton, CA, This doesn't give me indie cred or rap cred or Gang cred, even if I knew about the Bloods and the Crips long before the Net existed.
Yeah,I've heard the last two Kanye albums (hal sent them to me). I thought College Dropout was mediocre, but somehow, I thought Late Registration was super! I understand that I'm a newbie, based on true underground hip-hop, but hey, you may be a newbie when it comes to BRMC, eels or Andrew Bird!
Let's get together! If not, tell me some reason why?!

Have to agree with the Solid, not amazing crowd...there are many better albums out this year already, and to date, the year has been far from outstanding.
