You know mark f, I had my differences with Eels based on their release of an impossibly long double album last year. But I really did like a lot of the songs and so far, and this is preliminary, I like Eels with Strings. I'm ok with live albums being doubled, and I think for the most part they worked the strings in beautifully.
Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Gold Lion". I like the new, more polished sound. It's not as immediately mind-blowing of a song as "Maps", but it's still pretty awesome. If the rest of the upcoming album is on par with this single, it'll blow Fever to Tell out of the water.

So far I haven't loved "Gold Lion," but for some reason it does usually take me a couple listens to get on board with anything they do, so I'll keep trying. I found the vocals restrained, which to me is tragic.

Everything I've heard from that Tapes N' Tapes disc so far is pretty interesting. Might be one of the best new bands of the year (Watch out Arctic Monkeys!).

Yeah, the four songs I heard were really good. I'll probably order the album, and if it's all on par with what I've heard, The Loon may end up one of my favorites of the year.

A few random thoughts. The song Neko Case performed this week on the Jay Leno Show -- "Hold On, Hold On" (from the new "Fox Confessor" album) -- is stunning. Also, a song from the upcoming Midlake album -- "Roscoe" -- and a song from the upcoming Loose Fur album -- "Thou Shalt Wilt"-- have a smooth, bouncy and very catchy Fleetwood Mac/Steely Dan sound. The two leaked songs from the Raconteurs upcoming album (one of which is called "Steady As She Goes") are great glam-ish rock songs, as are the songs from Gnarles Barkley's upcoming album, "St. Elsewhere" (especially "Crazy").
Busta Rhymes - Touch It (Remix) Dem Franchise Boyz - Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It Mogwai - Friend of the Night, Glasgow Megasnake Prince - Black Sweat The Strokes - Juicebox
Built To Spill - "Liar" Liars - "The Other Side Of Mt. Heart Attack" Mogwai - "Auto Rock" and "Travel Is Dangerous" Tapes 'n Tapes - "The Iliad" and "In Houston"
