The song "Yours To Keep," by the Teddybears Stockholm (featuring Annie, I think, on vocals), is amazingly catchy and propulsive. The song is apparently six years old, but it's on the band's upcoming U.S. debut, so I suppose it should be considered a 2006 song here.

Yeah, I'll second Nathan Fake's "Grandfathered." There's more than one awesome track on that album.

"Kwangchou" and "Rising Son" from King Biscuit Time's Black Gold are great.

The title track from Adem's Love and Other Planets is breathtaking. Overall, that album was a major, major disappointment to me, but that track alone almost makes up for it.

"Skip to the End" by The Futureheads is a gem. One of my faves of the year, no question.

"Skip to the End" reminds me of peak-period XTC. Thanks Eric!

Also: I'm so into Band of Horses' "The Great Salt Lake" right now, its not even funny.

"Great Salt Lake" and "The Funeral" are both awesome tracks.

You're dead on about the XTC content in "Skip to the End". The Futureheads merge my favorite parts of XTC and the Jam into one tasty slab o' goodness.

I really like Radiohead's "House of Cards." It hasn't been officially released yet obviously and I'm not sure if it was written this year, but its good.

Thom gets sexual in it. "I don't wanna be your friend/ I just wanna be your lover."

I think we've all been waiting for this. I don't know about you guys, but the foremost question in my mind since Hail To the Thief has been, "When is Thom Yorke gonna go sexy on us all? When will he finally start shaking his ass and gyrating his hips on stage?" I knew it was just a matter of time. We all know that deep down, Yorke is a Prince wannabe.

pE, I think the only thing I like more than seeing one of your lists, is when said list has very few albums I've heard yet. It means I have a lot of quality listening to look forward to. Thanks for the tips!

I put together a mix CD every three months or so for friends. This has definitely been an or so year because it took me until July to put both the first and second CDs together. I like to think they're worth the wait because there are a lot of tracks I'm just loving here.

Get Set Go "So Sorry"
Steve Wynn "No Tomorrow"
The Hazey Janes "Your Enemy" <-- thanks, crazed!
Belle and Sebastian "Funny Little Frog"
Mary Lou Williams "Gemini"
Gabriela Montero "Improvisation on Chopin Nocture in D-flat"
Beth Orton "Shopping Trolley"
Kelley Stoltz "Memory Collector" <-- have you checked this one out, pE?
Destroyer "Your Blood"
The Lashes "The World Needs More Love Letters"
The M's "Darling Lucia" <-- one of my rave fave tracks of the year
Man Man "Engrish Bwudd" <-- thanks, m.l!
James Hand "Little Bitty Slip" <-- when it comes to country, the real deal
Rhett Miller "Delicate"
Neko Case "Margaret vs. Pauline"
Goldfrapp "Ooh La La"
Willie Nelson "Not That I Care"
Essex Green "Penny & Jack" <-- fans of Saturday Looks Good to Me take note
Howe Gelb "Paradise Here Abouts" <-- it took me a while to warm up to the album, but wow!
Mates of State "What It Means"
Josh Rouse "The Man Who Doesn't Know How to Smile" <-- Rouse has quietly become one of my favorite artists recording today
Television Personalities "She Can Stop Traffic" <-- I don't know that this album will find a lot of friends this year, but I just love it.

Margot & The Nuclear So and So's "On a Freezing Chicago Street" <-- BIG thanks, pE!
Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Turn Into"
The Concretes "Ooh La La"
Islands "Jogging Gorgeous Summer"
Tapes 'n Tapes "The Iliad"
Calexico "Bisbee Blue"
Pretty Girls Make Graves "Parade"
The Dresden Dolls "Shores of California"
Eleventh Dream Day "Lately I've Been Thinking"
Bruce Springsteen "Oh Mary Don't You Weep"
Starlight Mints "Inside of Me"
Alejandro Escovedo "Died a Little Today"
Gnarls Barkley "Crazy"
Jolie Holland "Crazy Dreams"
Mark Pickerel "Graffiti Girl" <-- I hope this album doesn't end up horribly overlooked this year
David Mead "The Trouble with Henry"
The Raconteurs "Store Bought Bones"
Avishai Cohen "Elli"
Camera Obscura "Lloyd, I'm Ready to Be Heartbroken"
Smoosh "Find a Way"
Stuart Staples "That Leaving Feeling"
Regina Spektor "On the Radio" <-- probably my single favorite track of the year right now

Now Playing: "Precious to Me" Phil Seymour Precious to Me

I think we should wait until the end of the year and dedicate a thread to 2006 mixes submitted by forum members. It would sort of be akin to the final album lists.

I like that idea. I'll probably spend more time on that than on deciding my Top 20 albums. Cool.
