It's still early, but this one needed to be started. This is the place for your favorite songs of 2006, not necessarily singles, but just ace tracks.

I've got one currently lodged in the frontal lobe:

"Raise Up With Fists": Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins.

The greatest libertine song they never wrote...

"Razorblade" and "You Only Live Once" - The Strokes
"Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt" - We Are Scientists
"Pitfalls" - Film School
"Circle, Square, Triangle" - Test Icicles

And I'll second "Rise Up With Fists!!!" by Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins. Those Cat Power tracks are good too.

"Fake Tales of San Francisco" is my favorite Arctic Monkeys song so far.

Cat Power: "The Greatest," "Hate," "The Moon"

That Jenny Lewis song is good, though I didn't love the album.

There's a few I like on the new B&S, I just have to figure out which ones are which.

It's very -- very -- early, but so far my favorites of 2006 are the two leaked songs from The Raconteurs (Jack White + Brendan Benson), "Steady, As She Goes," and "Store Bought Bones," Cat Power's "The Greatest," and the handful of leaked songs from Gnarles Barkley (DangerMouse + Cee-Lo).

I like The Raconteurs' "Steady, As She Goes". At first I wasn't sure how a White/Benson collaboration would work, considering their styles are so different, but it's a really cool track that takes the best elements of each.

Both of their tracks are availible on their website, theraconteurs.com, which incidentally is the funniest website I've seen in a long time.

The new Gossip album is great. It's hard to pick a best song off of it, so I'll list a few:
"Fire With Fire"
"Standing In The Way Of Control"
"Yr Mangled Heart"
"Listen Up"
"Keeping You Alive"

Off to check out those Racontuers tracks...

Eric:

I think the Raconteurs collaboration works precisely because White and Benson's styles are different, but (oddly) complimentary. Benson gives White's music a much-needed infusion of pop melody; White gives Benson's music a much-needed jolt of rock energy.

I agree. I can't wait to hear the whole album.

"The Greatest," "The Moon," "Could We" - Cat Power
"Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt," "Can't Lose" - We Are Scientists

I haven't heard much new stuff that isn't on the CD's I've bought this year, but hopefully that will change.

It's been emotional.
