I think that "Fading Trails" is a different kind of Molina. Though it has the same great Molina lyrics it is a little faster paced than his previous releases. I also think that "Fading Trails" is a huge improvement over "What Comes After the Blues" which I thought was terrible.

Downloaded this on the recommendation. This is beautiful. Any idea if there are copies of this floating about to buy? I see the initial pressing was only 100 copies and seems to be sold out.

Best wishes,

Reminds of: Straight-up Southern Rock-- think Springsteen and Mellencamp fronting Lynyrd Skynyrd's rhythm section, with Steve Earle on lead guitar writing the riffs and solos
Must Tracks: "Daylight," "Easy On Yourself," "Feb. 14," "A World of Hurt"
Also check out: "Aftermath U.S.A.," "Goodbye," all but two tracks are absolutely stellar...
Skip: Which are both of Mike Cooley's songs, unfortunately, "Gravity's Gone" and "Space City"
Assessment: Amazing, amazing southern rock record; quite possibly the best DBT has ever done; one of my three favorite records of '06. Can't recommend it enough!

Agree with you, although it may not be as deep as previous efforts, it's still really darn good. Nobody does Southern Rock as good as they do—nobody. Just like their past 3 or 4 albums, it is one of the top albums of the year.

The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth
Reminds of: Simply great rock music. Borrows ideas from great rock albums released in past 2 or 3 years, a stretch but Franz Ferdinand, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, very different sound.
Must Tracks: "You Only Live Once," "Vision of Division," "Electricityscape," "Ize of the World"
Skip: "Razorblade," "On the Other Side"
Assessment: Great album from great band. They are one of the best young bands of our time and released a strong, stellar album that shows signs of growth and development. Good ideas, great musicianship, beautiful guitar solo on "Ize of the World," and simply one of the best albums of the year. Not well-respected by critics or people on forums here which is very confusing.

When I first heard this album I found it disappointing, but I thought there were a couple bright spots. I recently listened to it again, and found it even worse. And I was a fan of their first two albums. Sadly, I don't think they'll ever be the band they were on "Is This it?" They answered their own question. That was it.

I’ll be Ben Gazzara, you’ll be Gena Rowlands.

Glad you liked it. It's my favorite album of the year right now. And yes, the good news is that Keep Records is reissuing this album early in 2007. His debut, I Will Return, which is very similar in style and quality to Long May You Run, is going to be reissued by Keep in November. I'm definitely gonna pick up both of those; I'm so glad they're gonna be available. Now, if I could only get someone to reissue those Elephant Micah albums...
