Could be because I got it later in the year, but it could also be because it kicks ass. I've occacionally listened to all of the album in my top five since the end of the year. I've lost touch with a few in my top 20, but I still maintain that 2006 had a lot more good records then it's gotten credit for. Decent year in music.
There were quite a few good albums, but there was nothing that really blew me away. Still, a bunch of those albums have staying power, and I've discovered several great albums after the fact.

All of Modern Times by Bob Dylan. If this is truly "Old People's Music", then count me in as a wise, lyrical-loving, blues-themed, awesome-music-loving Old [One of a] People!

I enjoyed Modern Times pretty well. "Someday Baby" and "Rollin' and Tumblin'" were particularly good, I thought. I don't really appreciate his lifting pretty much every song on it, but it sounds good none the less. Now, if I can just find my copy of Bringing It All Back Home...

I just picked up Etiquette, by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. What a wonderful record. Didn't make a lot of critical year end lists, I don't think, but I know it was somewhere on the MC list. A little David Bowie, and little electronica, and a little female vocal. It's a great combo, and, to boot, it has a great album cover!

I remembered that it was pretty high on one or two individual lists, but I never went back and checked whose. That's when I was fresh on the boards and didn't know anyone, so I didn't know who's recs to trust.
It likely would be top 10 for 2006 on my list if I were to make it now.

I was afraid to check that album out because the bands name sounds so.... emo and stupid.
Along with Get Lonely by the Mountain Goats, Etiquette was the best album lyrically of 2006. The music's pretty good, though not quite as good as 2003's Twinkle Echo, which is Casiotone's best.

Yeah, The Format has been popular for a while, and had a radio single a few years ago. "She Doesn't Get It" is playing on the radio, which makes sense considering The Format is basically catchy as any mainstream pop band.

The Hold Steady continues to be on repeat and really gets better with each listen. I also listen to Crane Wife, Destroyer's Rubies, and Etiquette from time to time. Boy "Rabbit Fur Coat" has not stood the test of time well...damn
