Also, Bitter Tea, by the Fiery Furnaces. I've come to like it better than Blueberry Boat. I had such a hard time getting into it, at first. There is so much distraction. But once you get past it, there is great melodic music.
I once heard the Jesus and Mary Chain described as "the velvet fist in the iron glove." I think this applied to FF as well.

Pitchfork's Top 100 Singles. It takes a few hours to get through, but I try not to skip even one rap song. I listen to it while I sleep too for subliminal programming purposes (spp).

Of all the albums I heard, I think this was the most overlooked(maybe in addition to Twilight Singers). The album was the most infectious and catchy I heard last year(probably top 5 of the year for me). I saw Figurines in Baltimore with Tapes 'N Tapes and Cold War Kids, and they just blew those two acts out of the water(and I loved the Tapes 'N Tapes album too... and cold war kids aren't bad either). I really feel like if they'd gotten more publicity they would have done a lot better, because more people would've given them a chance.

In fact(not that anybody here has any reason to take my word given that I've had about five total posts here), but I would strongly recommend it to anyone that hasn't given it a chance. I was shocked at how frequently I went back to it.

Let me put it this way: you might like it and eventually get bored with it, but you WILL like it. That's a guarantee.

Finally getting through some late pickups...of those Califone's Roots and Crowns and The Roots Game Theory are the two I most enjoy.

Still throw on Gelb and Beirut and Rosanne Cash from time to time, or Chilli Peppers when I just want to rock. Another one, not many mentioned that I've come to really enjoy is Viva Voce's Get Yr Blood Sucked Out...nothing remarkable, but a lot of nice Yo La Tengo styled songs with a more sunbaked twist.

I'm so in the 2007, this year had/has some of the best releases. Although towards the beginning of this year, I was catching up with what I missed in 2007 like:

The Drift, Scott Walker
Alright, Still, Lily Allen
Silent Shout, The Knife
Be Your Own Pet, Be Your Own Pet

are some albums I picked up this year (just because I didn't own them doesn't mean I haven't heard them), and I can easily say 3 of the 4 made my top 5 last year (the "3" being the first 3).

I wasn't a huge fan of that album but the last track... something about a sweater? That was a pretty darn good song.

In a Sweater Poorly Knit.

Songs 5 and 6 are about some of the best pop/rock/punk songs I've heard.

The Junior Boys album. "So This is Goodbye" is a fantastic piece of work. Very soothing and occasionally pretty damn catchy.

I love love love Last Exit, but the follow-up was such a damn let-down for me.

On another note, I'm still loving the Long Blondes album... even though I don't remember very many others on this board liking it much.

I think you started posting after many of us had already heaped praise on it. I sill listen to it as well. Another one I am still digging is Derdang Derdang by The Archie Bronson Outfit.

Apparently, I'm all about discovering 2006 albums in 2007. Asobi Seksu's "Citrus" is a pretty darn nice album!

I listened to it once or twice in 2006, randomly put it on before going to sleep a couple months ago, since then I love it.

That's how I use the new Blonde Redhead sometimes, now! I'm not sure if I would have appreciated this album as much if you and others hadn't sold me on "23" a month ago.

It's odd that saying Citrus, 23 and Talk Amongst the Trees put me asleep is a good thing. It seems kind of contradictory (atleast to youth) and would have thrown me off a year ago. But, it's definately good now (esp. with my sleeping habits, yikes).

I've probably listened to The Thermals' The Body, The Blood, The Machine more then anything else from '06 in '07. Could be because I got it later in the year, but it could also be because it kicks ass. I've occacionally listened to all of the album in my top five since the end of the year. I've lost touch with a few in my top 20, but I still maintain that 2006 had a lot more good records then it's gotten credit for. Decent year in music.
