I just got into this Midlake album that a lot of people were gushing over. It's an enjoyable listen, and I like the "old" sound it conveys. Hope their next album is just as good if not better, and by the way they are from my home state! What's even cooler is that they went to school and were music majors at North Texas, which is not only the best music school in Texas but arguably the best music school in the entire country. Story is that they have so many blisteringly good musicians there that they have to have like twelve jazz bands and they meet on the hour from 11:00AM-11:00PM every week day. If you make the top group (very rare) you are in Jazz Band 1 and that meets at 11 in the morning, but even the groups that meet at night time are monster jazz bands with awesome soloists, they are just that competitive and good there.
So much good music comes out of here including a little band named Spoon whose album is coming out this year.

At the start of this year, I bought a lot of new CDs, so not much has made it through. But I still listen to Liars, Clark, Malajube, and Grizzly Bear pretty regularly. This thread reminded me of the Islands album...I need to go listen to that again.

Glad to hear. Midlake's was also one of my favorites from last year.

I'll assume you meant 20 or 30 times?
Personally I like me some Fishscale. But, 2006 was one of my least productive years ever as far as listening to new music. I've heard almost none of the big players QQ
Like some others on this thread, I was eager to start on the '07 crop, mainly because '06's best releases made you work pretty hard to reap the benefits. I'm kind of curious to see how it all shakes out over the next three years.
I'm still absorbing Ys by Joanna Newsom; the almost accidental genius of the whole thing. It's weird because it comes off all meticulous and classically informed, but also organic and natural.
TV on the Radio will be getting an occasional spin probably for a long time, until 2017 when people finally realize that it's a funk record. I'll spin it one more time and congenially hand it over to the masses.
The Long Blondes - Someone to Drive You Home Didn't pick up on this until '07, but it's a great album.
I think my top ten for 07 is already stronger than the one I had for 2006. And I listened to the 06 albums way too much because I was obsessed with making a good list.
Still Holdin' Strong (with ranking on my list) The Hold Steady (#1) Girl Talk (#5) Band of Horses (#8) Neko Case (#12) Phoenix (#15) J-Dilla (#19)
Haven't listened to once in 2007: Joanna Newsom (#4)...over it! Liars (#6) The Knife (#7) Subtle (#9)
I still like Subtle, the others not so much.

Some of you probably think I sound like a broken record, but I'd say the album that holds up the best for me is the Hold Steady's Boys And Girls In America. If I were remaking my list, it would probably be at #1 now.
Other albums I've still been reaching for lately:
The Thermals - The Body, The Blood, The Machine Built to Spill - You in Reverse Aloha - Some Echoes Eagles of Death Metal - Death By Sexy Tapes N' Tapes - The Loon The Minus 5 - The Minus 5 Oxford Collapse - Remember the Night Parties
The last entry is of particular significance because it didn't make my top 20. Although, I now find I like it better than some of the albums that did make my top 20.
----- I’ll be Ben Gazzara, you’ll be Gena Rowlands.

I burned this album for my pops and he loves it! I hear him playing it all the time... I don't mind.
Most of the 2006 albums that I bought still get a lot of listening. Maybe this is because I felt that I had such a hard time getting into 2006 albums, I have no idea why, but the stuff I did like, I liked a lot. But I guess the one that I listen to the most is Tom Waits' Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards. Some others that get just a tad more airplay than the rest:
The Decemberists ~ The Crane Wife Beirut ~ Gulag Orkestar Clipse ~ Hell Hath No Fury Muse ~ Black Holes and Revelations The Roots ~ Game Theory M. Ward ~ Post-War Joanna Newsom ~ Ys The Knife ~ Silent Shout Midlake ~ The Trials of Van Occupanther (A great album that I sadly didn't get around to in 2006. Mr. Andrew Bird himself recommends this album in the latest issue of Rolling Stone.

I'm still regularly listening to Asobi Seksu's Citrus. I feel like I'm completely alone in my love for this album. "Red Sea" still regularly gives me chills/tear swells upon listens.
