This has been a popular topic for a long time, but it didn't have a thread. Apparently they still want to do it. I was really excited about it when I heard about it because (please forgive me SW and LOTR fans) this is my all-time favorite series. Now that I think about it though, Ford is 61, and Connery is 73. I think that they should leave well enough alone. What are your thoughts?

But Jakal, this is the one we are supposed to see. But I agree, I could be silly because of their age. BUT, if done right, far enough in the future after Last Crusade, and if it has a great storyline, they could pull it off. But man, Harrison is just looking like a wrinkley old bast.

Yea, well you see this one? This was my dream, my wish....and it didn't come true. So I'm taking it back, I'm taking them all back. -Face
Wow...I can't believe nobody's been discussing this the last 2 1/2 years. Just thought I'd revive it, as there's a lot more info available now. Cate Blanchett will be Indy's love interest, Shia LaBeouf will be his sidekick, and the storyline involves the Illuminati and Trilateral Commission. I think it's still unknown whether Sean Connery will reprise his role as Indy's father, though it is in the screenplay, and production is starting this summer.
Just a few comments...I blame George Lucas for delaying the production of this film for so long. There were a couple screenplays written that Spielberg and Harrison Ford were really happy with--and then Lucas vetoed them with vague and shallow complaints. These were screenplays written over periods of up to a year each, in close collaboration with Spielberg, by respected screenwriters such as Frank Darabont. It certainly makes sense that Lucas would be involved in this film, but what has he done in the past 15 years that actually worked? (No, the Star Wars prequel trilogy doesn't count, apart from the last 15 minutes of the last film) From what I've read it sounds like he's been lording over this project with a "my hunch is always right" sort of attitude, and not doing much of the actual footwork at all. IMO George Lucas has a fertile imagination and has had a few great ideas, but just hasn't sustained himself whatsoever compared to someone like Spielberg.
I'm wondering how Harrison Ford will do with this role. I thought he was barely serviceable in "Firewall"; he seemed to be battling through every scene. In general he's been projecting a sour, surly attitude for a while now. I saw him on Conan O'Brien promoting the film, and he was reserved to the point of rudeness and borderline combative on a few occasions. It seems the affable and charming, if somewhat shy, Harrison Ford that I see in the doc. footage from the first three films has gone away.
I'm sure he'll be able to get in shape and everything, and do the action sequences (though the storyline is very forthcoming about his age). I just hope the project somehow revives his considerable talents as an actor.

I've been following this kind of closely..ever since I heard they were working on a new Indy, 7 years ago or so, I've been excited.
Of course, it's filming now. Harrison Ford returns, with Ray Winstone as his sidekick (a new "Sallah" type character), Shia Leboef (sp) as another sidekick (heavy rumors that he's Indy's son), John Hurt as Abner Ravenwood (Indy's mentor, mentioned in the first movie), Cate Blanchett as a badass Russian agent, and Karen Allen returns as Marion Ravenwood. Jim Broadbent has a role as a professor, possibly a Marcus Brody type of character.
Most of these cast members, along with Steven Spielberg, gave a live satellite talk to Comic Con yesterday (in full costume). Harrison looks GREAT, better than he has in years; he could easily pass for being around 50 (and he's now 65). No reservations here after seeing him in costume, and seeming happy and full of life. Karen Allen also looks fantastic. They all seem thrilled with the whole thing, and openly share that they think they're making a great, special movie.
Apparently portions of the film take place at Area 51 in Nevada, Morocco, and South American Aztec/Mayan pyramids. There's a strong rumor that, while probably not involving aliens as characters or villains, the plot centers around some kind of alien astronaut theory about ancient civilizations being given a "boost" by alien visitors. The Ark might once again be involved, too. Russians stand in for the Nazis this time.
They just finished shooting in Hawaii, and are next going to L.A. for the studio set stuff. Strangely, they've shot only in the US so far; New Mexico, Hawaii, and Connecticut. I'm hoping we see some more exotic on-location stuff like the other films...
NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOO! (Smash Glass case containing USS Enterprise models) The Three Indiana Jones movies are epic! But I feel that todays modern day movies dont deserve another sequal to this epic trilogy.
They waited almost a decade to get a script all three of them (Lucas, Ford, Spielberg) thought was excellent. It seems like a *lot* of care has gone into making sure this is a worthwhile endeavor. I think it'll probably be, at least, a decent movie (like Temple Of Doom ) , and possibly a great one.

I'm of the mindset that the only one that was perfect was the first one. DOOM and CRUSADE were lukewarm. I'd welcome another addition.
STILL no interest in this here...wow. I've been following the production. They're about to wrap principal photography. From all I've read, it sounds like this will be a very, very good Indy film.
Many people who have seen Harrison suited up as Indy on the set of the new film, from journalists to ordinary gawkers, are openly amazed at how good he looks. Spielberg recently said that after filming a fight sequence for Indy 4, he honestly couldn't see any difference in the way Harrison moved compared to the Last Crusade in 1989. He did the same amount of his own stunts that he did for LC. So, no worries there...apparently Harrison Ford is still bringing the goods big time, in spite of his 64 years.
Spielberg is filming the movie with the older Panavision system, as the other three films were made. He says 70% of the special effects were done on-set, practically, while the other 30% will be digitally done...but they won't be the kinds of things we'll notice necessarily (matte backgrounds, etc.). He's keeping it old school, and assures Indy 4 will be totally in keeping with the others as far as style and technique--"no MTV-style cutting" in his words.
Apparently the assistant director, Michael Cuevez I believe, was a guest lecturer at USC last week and showed the students a rough cut of a proposed Indy trailer. Several of these students have written about what they saw, and all were blown away...they think it looks like a huge, fun, awesome film.
The plot involves crystal skulls, as evidenced by the title. There are many theories about these skulls (which exist in real life), but for the movie, many think they represent some kind of "hard drive" of wisdom from alien visitors. The Russians want to harness this power, apparently the same that helped the Aztecs build their civilization. There are other theories, but apparently they built a set for Nellis Air Force Base (home of Area 51) which lends credence to the alien theories. My guess is if there are "aliens" in Indy they won't be seen or talked about necessarily; or hardly at all, like the ghosts at the end of Raiders. In the same way that wasn't a "ghost movie," I doubt Indy 4 will be an "alien movie."
The trailer is due out at Christmas. Honestly, I'm probably more excited about this movie coming out than any other in my life. I was never too pumped about the Star Wars revival. The thought of seeing Indy in action again, with John Williams' music, gives me chills.
I'm excited for Indy IV, but I won't go crazy until I've seen the trailer. I've heard the same, that Ford looks great and is completely believable as the man we last saw almost 20 years ago.
Common, I'm pulling rank and appointing you official Indy IV correspondent for the forums.

Well, Common, you just raised my excitement level. I could really go for an old-school, familiar action romp. I'm pretty stoked for Indy IV, funny, but I wasn't excited at all for the latest Die Hard (even though it, too, was an old-school familiar action romp).
I think that Speilberg and Ford wouldn't touch the thing if it was anything less than great.

He almost looks younger than Indy is supposed to be (55 or so).
The movie's in post-production, and everyone seems very, very pleased with it. Even veteran actors like Ray Winstone, Cate Blanchett and John Hurt have said it was amazing watching Spielberg at work on this film. John Williams is finishing up the score right about now.
Producer Frank Marshall insists that they all felt the enormous burden of expectation about doing another Indiana Jones movie, and all involved feel like they're in the clear, they have made an outstanding film. He says that they haven't really strayed at all, it's "just" an Indiana Jones movie, no high-concept sequel crap, and it's the best since the first one.
There was supposed to be a teaser trailer out in December, but now they're saying February, damnit. For those like me who've been following this the last several months, they're reeeeally starving us. The three promo photos they released were really the first "official" info in months. There are a few interview snippets here and there, but the whole project is still amazingly hush-hush.
Did anyone see the new trailer for this? I really cannot believe nobody here wants to discuss this. It's a new goddamn Indiana Jones movie, and it looks f*****g great!!!
It looks as though it will have some CGI in it, but mostly scenic/context stuff, taking the place of matte paintings. Which is fine; it's just an improvement of technology they used in the other movies. And they probably have edited out some wire harnesses and similar stuff in action sequences, which is also fine by me.
Anyway, Harrison Ford looks fantastic in the trailer, like he's only 50 or so, and a very vital and athletic 50 at that. He's running around like he's 20.
I have high hopes for this movie. Hopefully there will be a full trailer coming out pretty soon, with new John Williams music.
It certainly looks funny enough, and I know no one who holds the Indiana Jones in higher esteem than I do, but I just tend to hold my tongue when these things are still three months off.

Gotcha mark...though the people at theraider.net have been discussing this movie for the last 6 or 7 years. When you're in full nerd overdrive mode there's plenty to talk about. You can't put too much stock in a teaser trailer, but my gut instinct with trailers is usually surprisingly accurate once I see the film, and to me it looks really solid.
I wasn't sure if it shoulda been made. Harrison Ford just looks so old and slow now and Indy was so energetic! However... The Friar just showed me the trailer down in the Star Wars thread (why didn't anyone think to post a link here? ) and my excitement about a new Indy film has been restored! It seems they're goin' in the "I'm gettin' too old for this..." direction, which would be the perfect way to go... at least in my opinion. I cracked up when he was swinging for the car and hit the truck!
