Spiderman 2? The best comic book adaptation ever? No way. I doubt that would even make my top 10.

One movie I was a little surprised to see ranked so low was the first Blade movie, which I found pretty enjoyable. I definitely liked it better than several of the other movies in the top half of that list.

Just a word to the wise, M_B. Try to stay clear of that website, it's pretty rotten--literally.

I know, I know. I just thought it made for a pretty good checklist, is all. I didn't know about a few of them & I'm now on the look out for 'em. After all, I am trying to collect EVERY comic-based movie ever made Smiler. I did disagree with alot of their choices & ratings Roll Eyes, but "American Splendor" was number 2! That one would have been in MY top 10! Big Grin It's too bad they don't do GREATEST or WORST countdowns & what nots here. Maybe someone should get on that. Wink

Thanks for the link, Orang-utan Lad. Big Grin

I'm having fun reading the list.

Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been,
Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene;
As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be,
So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

Hey, you wanna peek at the movie poster for "Punisher 2"? Take a look! Now, this might be a fake, but if it isn't, does this mean Michael Keaton will be Jigsaw? Interesting choice, indeed.

In "The Dark Knight" news, there won't be any origin time dedicated to the Joker. He'll be introduced as "The Joker" from the start. There may be flashbacks, but we won't have to wait until the movie is half over to see the Clown Prince of Crime. Another interesting point I've found out, his skin won't be white. He'll be wearing make-up on his face only. Officer Montoya will also be introduced, but no sign of Detective Bullock... yet.

Since some of you didn't seem to like the R.T. countdown, here's one that ya CAN'T argue with:
The Top 20 Comic Book Movies of All Time
in millions
North American Box Office (left)
International Box Office (right)

20. "The Mask" (1994) 119.9/231.4
19. "Hulk" (2003) 132.1/113.1
18. "Superman" (1978) 134.2/166.0
17. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (1990) 135.2/66.7
16. "Fantastic Four" (2005) 154.5/165.1
15. "Over the Hedge" (2006) 154.8/150.2
14. "X-Men" (2000) 157.1/138.7
13. "Batman Returns" (1992) 162.8/104.0
12. "Batman Forever" (1995) 184.0/152.5
11. "Men In Black 2" (2002) 190.4/251.4
10. "Superman Returns" (2006) 200.0/190.0
9. "Batman Begins" (2005) 205.3/166.4
8. "300" (2007) 207.9/228.4
7. "X2: X-Men United" (2003) 214.9/191.5
6. "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006) 234.2/207.2
5. "Spider-Man 3" (2007) 242.1/379.5
4. "Men In Black" (1997) 250.6/338.7
3. "Batman" (1989) 251.1/160.1
2. "Spider-Man 2" (2004) 373.3/410.4
1. "Spider-Man" (2002) 403.7/418.0

There is no word on whether these numbers have been adjusted for rising ticket prices. I'm not sure I would include "Over the Hedge" as a comic book movie, though. The only reason I put "Dick Tracy" in my comic book movie list was because it was a goofy detective story & half way serious with its subject matter, but a funny pages 'toon? I dunno. Do ya think "Spider-Man 3" is gonna snatch the number 1 spot from the original? It's rushing up the list pretty fast & has been the box-office winner 2 weeks in a row!

See ya in the funny pages! Big Grin

First off, those numbers have not been adjusted. Spider-Man 3 will break the Worldwide box office take of the original, but the 2002 film should keep its North American record.

So, Mark F, are ya smart enough to figure out what the order would be if the numbers were adjusted? I hear old people are pretty wise Wink!

Oooooooooooh, I guess I should post a retraction. THOMAS JANE WILL NOT BE BACK FOR "THE PUNISHER 2"!!!! How could this be?! Apparently the script isn't staying true to the heart of the character. Jane told Ain't It Cool News, "I regretfully and painfully had to pull out of P2. I can't tell you how completely broken up I am about it. Punisher fans are already fighting an uphill battle as it is. And I've always felt a responsibility to fight that fight for them and with them so that Frank Castle gets the treatment he deserves." He added, "What I won't do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don't believe in. I've always loved the Marvel guys, and wish them well." I guess, if that poster was real, it's gonna change now. In other "P2" news, (like we care after this development
Roll Eyes) a UFC star may be filling the villainous role of Jigsaw's brother. Chuck Liddell has been quoted as saying, "I'm interested in Hollywood. I'm trying to do Punisher II. I may get to play the villain's crazy brother. I'll probably start acting classes." Let's hope those flippin' classes pay off. Otherwise, I would hope his role is small.

That's all the news for now, see ya in the funny pages!

What's up, Fanboys & girls Big Grin?! Are you guys excited about "The Dark Knight"? There is a mock campaign poster for Harvey Dent & here's one from one of his "supporters"! Give the "supporters" one a minute & you're in for a surprise Wink! (If the picture doesn't do anything after 20 seconds, you may have to refesh the page to get the trick to work!)

Boy, I hope you guys had viewed that "Supporters" page before now because the picture is gone. However, if you click the link, it'll say 'page not found', but that's not all it says...Use your cursor & highlight the area for a little something extra Wink.

There are rumors abound about that 'site. Some believe the picture of the Joker was a fake, while others think this is all some very inventive marketing campaign. What do you think? Here's a link to the article that talks about all of this & it even shows you the picture in question. Check it out! In other "The Dark Knight" news, Anthony Michael Hall has joined the cast!

In news on "The Spirit", here's the movie poster & Lionsgate has picked it up. Samuel L. Jackson is in talks to be the supervillain Octopus. I'm sure you guys remember this movie is Frank Miller's directorial debut. The poster, alone, should give it away!

I come bearing bad news, guys Frowner. I've just discovered that "Sin City 2" has been put on hold! Frank Miller confirmed the delay. He'll be finishing up "The Spirit" & Rodriguez wants to do a remake of "Barbarella" BEFORE they return to Basin City. The change of attitude is rumored to be coming from the failure of "Grindhouse".

Neil Gaiman will be directing an adaption of his graphic novel 'Death: The High Cost of Living' & the 'Teen Titans' are coming to the big screen!

Wanna know what's goin' down in the second Hulk movie? Here's "The Incredible Hulk" Movie Synopsis:
"The explosive, action-packed adventure in one of the all-time most popular superhero sagas unfolds with a cure in reach for the world's most primal force of fury: The Incredible Hulk. We find scientist Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) living in shadows, scouring the planet for an antidote. But the warmongers who dream of abusing his powers won't leave him alone, nor will his need to be with the only woman he has ever loved, Betty Ross (Liv Tyler).

"Upon returning to civilization, our brilliant doctor is ruthlessly pursued by The Abomination (Tim Roth) -- a nightmarish beast of pure adrenaline and aggression whose powers match The Hulk's own. A fight of comic-book proportions ensues as Banner must call upon the hero within to rescue New York City from total destruction. And on June 13, 2008, one scientist must make an agonizing final choice -- accept a peaceful life as Bruce Banner or the creature he could permanently become: The Incredible Hulk."

Production of the film -- written by Zak Penn and directed by Louis Leterrier
What do ya think of that? I'm thinking they're going to lean towards alot more Hulk action than in the Ang Lee version.

In honor of the upcoming Fantastic 4 sequel, the Franklin Mint & Fox have teamed up to make limited edition "Silver Surfer Quarters". The 'Heads" side of the coin was left alone & the 'Tails' side has an image of the surfer with the movie's website. However, this act turned out to be VERY illegal & so every one of the 40,000 quarters have been deemed WORTHLESS by the U.S. Mint. Who are VERY upset about this in fraction. It is a federal crime to turn any form of legal tender into a form of advertising, and violators can face a fine.

Oh, I almost forgot! You remember that 'Top 20 CBM's' list up a few posts from here? Well, if you don't, scroll up! "Spider-Man 3" has moved into the 3rd spot! So, the top 3 grossing Comic Based Movies are the 3 "Spider-Man" flicks! Yeah, there's gonna be six of 'em. In fact, the Producers have hinted that they've always loved the Lizard as a villain, so that's a given. Guess we have to wait a little longer before we have a real conformation for Carnage.

That's all the news for now! Wink

What's goin' down, Fanboys & girls?! I picked up the extended edition of "Fantastic 4" yesterday & the new bonus features are worth the price alone. There is an extensive documentary on the creation of the comic including interviews with the comic legends who helped to bring the comic to fruition. Very enjoyable, indeed. There is also a "making of" doc that was pretty darn informative as well. They even have an "Origin of the Silver Surfer" featurette. There are some very good deleted scenes with a great moment of Reed changing his face into Wolverine's when he is discussing "manliness" with Sue. I'll be watching the movie, with 20 extra minutes, a little later today. Oh, I almost forgot, there is a ticket for the sequel in there too! If you head to Wal-Mart now, you can pick it up for about 15 bucks. If you wait too long, the price will jump to around $21.

Are any of you curious about "30 Days of Night"? Here's the website. The trailer has made me very excited to see this bad boy come to the big screen! In fact, I don't think I've ever been this excited about any Josh Hartnett film. Now that I think about it, nope, I haven't.

In "Hellboy 2" news, John Hurt will be back. Probably in a flashback, since he was killed in the first one.

A quick rundown of the upcoming releases:
"Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer" June 15th
"Transformers" July 3rd (Yeah, it started out as a 'toon, but they do have comics!)
"Stardust" August 10th
"30 Days of Night" October 19th

And to DVD:
"Ghost Rider" June 12th It will be released in 2 forms, a single disk theatrical release & a 2-disc extended cut. The 1-disc will include 2 commentaries, one with director/screenwriter Mark Steven Johnson & Visual effects supervisor Kevin Mack, the other will have producer Gary Foster. To top things off, a "Making of" documentary. On the 2-disc, you get all that PLUS another documentary on his origin, animatic sequences & 17 more minutes of fiery skull action! You'll have the choice of a regular DVD or Blu-Ray.

"300" July 31st Not only in the regular DVD format, but it will also be available in Blu-Ray & HD-DVD (Both of them? That's a first). The single disc version includes commentary by Snyder, screenwriter Kurt Johnstad and director of photography Larry Fong. The two-disc version will include the same commentary plus additional scenes of the traitorous hunchback and never-before-seen giant warriors, "Frank Miller's Vision Realized on Film," "300 Spartans - Fact or Fiction?: The Shocking Life of a Spartan Revealed," "Who Were the Spartans?: How the Actors Built Their Characters Based on Spartan Customs," Webisodes and a photo gallery.

"TMNT" August 7th It will ALSO be released in all 3 DVD formats (Guess, that's a second. I, personally, think that's how they should do EVERY DVD release.) It'll have a commentary by writer/director Kevin Munroe, an alternate opening sequence of Splinter telling the back story & an alternate ending, deleted scene, side-by-side storyboard & CGI action comparison, & interviews with the voice talents.

That's all the news for now. See ya in the funny pages!

I can't say when it'll be out exactly, but I can make an educated guess Big Grin. It usually takes about 4 months for a movie to come to DVD, so I would say sometime in August or early September. It's gonna be jam packed with features & will have the international extended cuts of each film. "Planet Terror" will be around 15-20 minutes longer & "Death Proof" will be about 115 minutes long. Rodriguez has joked that in a few years they'll release a “newly restored and re-mastered print” that would be completely clean of the Grindhouse scratches and jitter Wink. I'd buy it Big Grin!

Yeah, when the hell is Grindhouse coming to Cheena, my simian overlord??

I don't even got no steenkin' bootleg shot from the 3rd row!!!

Can you call your people and have them call my people....which reminds me, I got interrogated by immigration cops the other day about my 'extra', illegal work!
Thank god they didn't check those fat wallets full of juicy dvd's ha ha.. Big Grin

That does suck, my floating pall. I'm not sure what I can tell ya. It seems it may be too much for chinese eyes to take in. Strange that you could get a copy of "28 Weeks Later" & you can't snare one of "Grindhouse". Maybe it's because it's playing as 2 different movies, instead of as one. It might be confusing to the pirates out there. That, or there just isn't a demand for it. How I feel sorry for you Frowner, missing out on such a fine achievment in a parody of sex & violence is a crime.

Speaking of bootlegs, I got a very good one of "Spider-Man 3". The wife got it from a co-worker & she hadn't seen it yet.

I didn't think it sucked as bad as everyone said it did. I HATE what they did with Dr. Doom, the Thing didn't look as good as he could have, & even though Jessica Alba is the most beautiful young woman in Hollywood, I don't think she makes for a very good Sue Storm. She just doesn't look right with blonde hair & blue eyes, her skin is too dark for it to work. (They coulda went with, maybe, I dunno.... Tea Leoni?) BUT! I did enjoy it alot more than I thought I would have. It's not in my Top 10 of favorite CBM's, but I'm also not ashamed to own it, either.

Yep, Jessica Alba was allllll wrong.

I woulda gone with that Audrey sheila from '24', ha ha...

It was a lazy film for me...ticked the necessary boxes without putting any heart or soul in.

Julian McMahon was a soapie star back in Oz, so I can never take him seriously ha ha Smiler
