I'm not real sure where I picked up "fries my hash", it's just a saying I like. Now, "Good gravy" I got from 'The Simpson's'. I believe the episode is 'Grade School Confidential', where Skinner & Krabapple first become lovers. Skinner says it when Bart is about to tell everyone about the kiss he witnessed. The most hilarious moment is what the cafeteria worker says in return, "Why, thank you! It's only brown & water." I just adopted "good gravy" as apart of my everyday speech & it even evolved into sayings like, "That's gravy!" Which brings me to something else that fries my hash! Sonic now has a commercial with a guy eating a sausage & gravy toaster & he starts saying "That's so gravy!" Now, I'm afraid when I say it, someone is gonna think I got it from a stupid commercial ! I gotta find the person who has been spying on my life & put an end to my personality being stolen. Can I sue for "Personality Theft"? "I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

Oooooh, man! Just over a week & "Spider-Man 3" will be hitting theaters! If all goes as planned, I should be there for the first screening on Friday, maybe even the midnight showing. I just gotta hold onto this twenty a few more days. (It's 7 bucks to get in & 10 bucks for a large coke & nachos with extra cheese! ) While some plot devices are bugging the crap outta me, I'm just looking forward to this movie like I was to "Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith"! (Which by the way, I loved very much!) I'll just have to do what I did when I watched the "X-Men" movies & forget what I know about the comics. Ish-man, these next few rumors are for you, old buddy . Hope ya like what you read ! In "Green Arrow" news, Matt Damon is in negotiations to play the lead. I wouldn't be too sure about this choice, but after seing him in action in the "Bourne" series (he's in the middle of filming a third), I feel he can pull off some convincing action. Actor Shia LaBeouf is begging to play Yorick in "Y: The Last Man". It's his favorite comic & he wants to be apart of this project. LaBeouf was the "foul-mouthed" kid from "I, Robot" & John's taxi driver in "Contantine". I hope that makes ya happy, Casket of Ishmael ! In other news, there was a fire on the set of "The Dark Knight" that wasn't planned as a maniacal plot of the Joker's. Turns out it started in the ventilation system & spread throughout the building. There were no injuries & no one is certain if the fire started due to the filming or not. Funny note: When nearby office workers saw the rising smokescreen they assumed it was part of the movie & never thought to call the fire department ! Speaking of "The Dark Knight", a make up test of the Joker has been leaked. Keep in mind, this is only a test & it could change, but this let's you know what direction they're headed in. Check it out! For some reason it reminds me of "The Crow", only with some color. There is also a link there to a related story of a fake photo that was thought to be the real deal. Geeks & their Photoshop programs . I'm glad I didn't link that picture! "I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Thanx for the news, mb. I like the idea of Damon as Oliver the Green Arrow, that sounds cool. Shia won't be shi-t either. So, things are looking up in my little corner of the world...loving both Green Arrow and Y: The Last Man, as I scooby-dooby-do. And yes, the Joker is very Crow-like....ah, life is grand ain't it??

Well, I've FINALLY seen "American Splendor" & I liked it! I really liked it. I watched it with my veeeery long time friend & we were both cracking up. I knew the basic premise of the story, but I had no idea it was a true story of the creation of a comic that was pretty much a true story. Dosen't it just blow your mind?! The funniest part of the movie for us was Toby, the slow talking, every syllable sounding nerd. This character wasn't as "Far Out" as some of you might have thought, we worked with a woman who acted & sounded EXACTLY like him! I must say thank you, FKA! If it wasn't for you, I never would have seen this movie, sir. I am forever in your debt, or, at least for the next few days, anyway. In comic movie news, Sarah Michelle Gellar will be the Joker's lovable sidekick, Harley Quinn in "Batman Begins"! Johny Storm will become THE SUPER SKRULL in "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer"! Well, sorta, he gains the abilities of the entire team to fight the Silver Surfer. Just in case you were wondering, no, this NEVER happened in the comics . David Goyer is to direct "Magneto", but the project won't begin until filming wraps on "Wolverine". Finally, Bryan Singer is currently working on a script for the next "Superman" flick. That's all the news I have for now. Don't forget, "Spider-Man 3" opens on Friday!!!!!! Until next time, see ya in the funny pages! "I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! You are very welcome my Monkey friend. Though I had little doubt--because it is so good--I am glad you liked it. Paul Giamatti can definitely act, he is one of the most special and underrated actors of our time. How he wasn't even nominated for Sideways blows my mind. Did you know he is making a comedic Christmas movie titled, Fred Claus a;ong with the hilarious Vince Vaughn, due some time time in November? It looks very funny, looking forward to seeing how Mr. Giamatti portrays ol' Saint Nick. As for what you can do for me...hmmm....I will get back to you on that.

Reading an interview with Zak Penn, who is writing/directing the next Hulk film, I was shocked to see him say about the Ang Lee movie that '.(The first hulk film) was not about the torment of being a person who cannot afford to feel anxiety in modern culture.' What??!!? Has he seen the first Hulk? Penn also makes out that the Lee film is simply a superhero movie, lacking 'a man cursed with turning into his repressed id.' Penn clearly is talking up his own project, but to deliberately misrepresent Ang's job is awful, and dumb. The reason The Hulk failed at the box office (amongst other reasons) is that it is indeed a freudian, non heroic story, which shows a man haunted by his father, and his own impotency as a man. C'mon, Penn, either you can't read a film, or yr a crass opportunist. Whaddya reckon monkey magic??

I wholeheartedly agree, oh, floating Casket of Ahab's crewman ! The first "Hulk" was unlike any comic based movie I'd seen, it had many layers of angst, grief, & pent up rage. It was taken very seriously by its director. I'm still puzzled as to why so many people hated it as much as they did. I know some people expected more action & they didn't like all of the story added into it. So, I'm expecting "The Incredible Hulk" reverting to a mindless action flick, quite simply, a "superhero movie". Who knows? Maybe he was being sarcastic, or even ironic? No worries, Ishy. This movie is pretty darn fantastic! I enjoyed it immensely, however I have some kudos & a few apples of discord. Since this is the COMIC-BASED MOVIE thread, I'm going to go ahead & let ya know what went with the comics & what didn't. SO, if you don't want to know key plot points STOP READING RIGHT NOW!!!!!! I mean it! Well, I guess you could skip to the last paragraph. First off my anger with the "Sandman is the actual killer" plot was unfounded. Flint Marko was the partner of the original robber. It was his job to get the car. Soooo, they didn't suddenly change actors for the same role. In fact, they even restaged the event with the original robber in the street WITH Marko. After Marko shot Uncle Ben, the robber drove off without him. Nice & tidy ! Oh, & as Sandman, he was awesome!!! For some reason they feel the need to say that Eddie Brock is new to the Bugle, but he was mentioned in the first movie ("Eddie can't seem to get a picture of this guy!"). They did stay true to what created Brock's anger toward Peter. In the comics, he faked some pictures of Spider-Man committing a crime & Peter fronted him out, getting him fired. So, good job. The symbiote costume annoyed me because Peter should never remove the suit. It bonds to him & even takes on the appearance of regular clothes. Having him be able to remove it, made it seem as though they didn't share a bond. At the same time, Venom looked GREAT! He completely dominated the third act! One GIGANTIC beef, THEY KILLED HIM!!!!!! How could they?! Venom is Spider-Man's greatest foe! He is the one character that had an edge against the Wall-Crawler, he knows Spider-Man's secret identity & he doesn't set off his "Spider-Sense". I blacked it out just in case someone let their eyes quickly gaze over the text. I don't want to give away EVERYTHING for those that don't really wanna know. In case you don't know, highlight the area with your cursor to read it . Harry's turn into the "New Goblin" wasn't all that bad. He died NEARLY the same way he did in the comic. In the comic (I actually own this one!), Harry saves Peter at the last minute from an explosion & dies in his arms from the serum. In the movie he dies saving Peter, but not from the serum. I still hate the mask, especially since they show an all chrome Goblin mask that looked really good. Their fights were especially violent, though! There was no point in having Gwen or her father, Captain Stacy in the movie. They did nothing for the plot except Gwen provided someone to make Mary Jane jealous for about 5 minutes & her father was only there to tell Peter & Aunt May about Uncle Ben's actual killer. These characters could have been replaced by no name extras. I really was shocked that they gave James Cromwell such a small part. Oh & my source on Bruce Campbell playing Quentin Beck aka Mysterio was WRONG!!!! That's it, they're dropped from my list of sources! Well, they would be if I could remember who mentioned it . I think it was Wizard, but I'm NOT positive. He ended up being the Maitre d' of a restaurant, but he was still fantastic & had a much bigger part than in the previous two. As I said, overall VERY GOOD & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to anyone who enjoyed the first two. There are plenty of fight scenes & very good effects work. Especially in the case of Sandman & Venom. The ratio of changes to faithfullness to the comics is pretty much 50/50. It shouldn't bother you a whole lot. Just sit back & enjoy the ride ! B+ They could've done more with what they had, but hey! There are 3 more movies to look forward to! The Lizard should be a deadlock for "Spider-Man 4" ! If you checkout the background of Doc Connors' lab when he's talking to "evil Peter" on the phone, you'll notice a mounted skeleton of a lizard. Foreshadowing his facination with the reptiles for their appendage regenerative abilities. "I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Sure, I might offend a few of the blue-noses with my cocky stride and musky odor - oh, I'll never be the darling of the so-called 'City Fathers' who cluck their tongues, stroke their beards, and talk about what's to be done with this Monkey_Boy?!"

hmmmm, increase my killing power hey?...oh, sorry, wrong thread....good review hey hey, we're the monkey boy....I have my eyes peeled, but (sacreligiously) I don't really care for the first 2 Spidey swing-by's, so , maybe pervesely, I will like best the least popular one, ha ha. Well, "Spider-Man 3" is the number 1 movie at the box office this weekend, beating out last year's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" by $4 million, & that's just opening day! Well, as I told you, there are plans for 6 films total & there's already news on the villians of the 4th. These are very preliminary, but the source was right about Sandman & Venom in the 3rd so he's more than likely right about this one. Who will it be? Or should I say, who will THEY be? The Lizard (of course, I pretty much knew that) & CARNAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I talked with my good friend on Friday about the possibilty of Carnage, but I figured that with the death of Venom, it looked doubtful. Carnage's origin is linked to Venom because the symbiote that latches onto Cletus is the offspring of the original. Cletus gets his own symbiote suit when the Venom symbiote busts Eddie out of jail while the two of them were cellmates. A part of it is left behind & PRESTO-CHANGO! Carnage is born. However, they killed Venom in 3, so I don't know exactly how their going to make this happen. My guess, the piece of symbiote that Doc Connors has is going to get free & find our favorite serial killer! Carnage would be an even better villain than Venom because this guy is just plain insane. Venom only had a beef with Spider-Man, Carnage hates EVERYONE! He is a serial killer, after all ! His symbiote is also very unstable. He constantly has tendrils coming off of his body & he can shapeshift his arms into dagger & sickle type weapons. This should be good, but they better not let the Lizard die. Peter does everything he can to revert Connors back to normal during these transformations. His number one priority is NOT to hurt the Doc, but to help him. If you haven't seen it, here's the new trailer for "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer". Did you see the Surfer talking to someone in a hooded cloak? That could be one of two people, Dr. Doom or the Watcher. The Watcher did have a pretty big part in the original comic book story. So he just might have a part in the movie. At the same time, Dr. Doom has been rumored as to manipulating the Surfer to steal his power. Guess we'll have to wait & see. By the way, if you read the comments below the video, they're wrong. Galactus will be in the movie, or at least at the end. Until that point, yes he'll be a storm cloud. I don't know if I like Johnny Storm taking on the powers of his teammates just because the Silver Surfer touched him. The Power Cosmic isn't contagious!!!! For you "Iron Man" fans here's a picture of Tony Stark constructing his first suit! Check out his "pacemaker"! Oh, & I just found out, Liv Tyler will be taking over the role of Betty Ross in "The Incredible Hulk". Jennifer Connely was MUCH hotter . That's all the news for now! See ya in the funy pages. "I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! Duuuuuuuude..!!!!! Surrrrr-fer!!!! Thanx for the link, friend of the furries....somebody really wants an X-Men type franchise don't they...some of that trailer could be taken from X-Men 3...but it shld be ok, I guess. Carnage sounds cool, Im so outta touch with Spidey villians, but he sounds like the man! Liv Tyler vs. Jen Connelly..??...hmmm, I like 'em both, but I think i actually prefer Livvy, cos she has those great lips. I preferred Jenny when she had some meat on her bones, circa The Rocketeer..ha ha

Well, looks like reviews of "Spider-Man 3" are pretty much mixed. Guess you either loved it, hated it, or kinda liked it. However, I recently found that George Lucas, himself, has said he found it "silly". He's been quoted saying, "It's a silly movie. There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?" Funny. I've heard MANY people say the same about the "Star Wars" prequels . So Lucas DOES have a limit! I still stand by my thumbs up. They could've done more, but it'll tide me over 'til part 4 hits theaters in 2010. In NON-Spider-Man news, one of my personal favorite actors will be in "The Incredible Hulk", TIM ROTH!!!!! Who will he play? General Ross? No. Doc Samson? No way! Emil Blonsky? DING DING DING!!! Oh, yeah! The master of villainous roles will be the most horrible, ugliest thorn in the Hulk's side, THE ABOMINATION! This cast just keeps gettin' better & better! Although, I think they really need to keep Sam Elliot as the General. I mean, it's SAM ELLIOT, man! Nothing commands submission like that mustache! Well, him & Jennifer Connelly. I'm gonna miss lookin' at her. *SIGH!* In other news, Josh Holloway, of T.V.'s 'LOST' has been approached to be Gambit in "X-Men 4". I've never watched an entire episode of 'Lost' because it just made no sense to me. So, I have no idea how good this guy would be in the part. Here's hopin' he can pull it off. He better be able to do a convincing cajun accent. Common will be playing the part of Gunsmith in "Wanted" alongside Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, & James McAvoy. I don't know about you guys, but I HATE rappers in my movies! Most of the time they can't act their way out of a paper bag & they usually play some tough guy part that imitates their image. Here's hoping he doesn't ruin the movie, like Snoop certainly would! Well, guess I'll go out on a goofy note. You know those "Got Milk?" ads? Check this one out!!!!!Until next time, see ya in the funny pages! "I can't live the buttoned down life like all of you! I want it all: the terrifying lows, the dizzying highs, the creamy middles! While most of the time this is true M_B, there are some few exceptions to your rule. One striking performance is Ice Cube's brilliant acting job in Boyz n the Hood. He held his own against acting greats Laurence Fishburne and Cuba Gooding Jr. and he really did a great job. Now, as for his other work as a rapper and actor, I am not speaking for that. I also heard that the RZA was offered Anthony Anderson's role in The Departed but turned it down because of scheduling conflicts. I don't know about you, but although it was a small role, I think Scorsese would have guided the rapper/producer to a great acting job.

Well, of course there are! There are a few rapper-turned-actors that I can barely remember USED to be rappers, Ice Cube, Ice T, Will Smith, Mark Wahlberg (Marky Mark), & Queen Latifah are the most successful in this regard. You even have a few one-shots that were pretty good, such as Ludacris in "Crash", Busta Rhymes in "Higher Learning" & "Shaft"(2000), MC Eiht in "Menace II Society", The RZA in "Derailed" & 2Pac in a few memorable roles before his tragic death. However, for every successful turn, you have several painful misfires. Such as, Master P & the ENTIRE No Limit staf | |
