Yeah, that is not too good of a reason. Now, if you had said that Jaws was the best film of all time, then I could see... Cool

Ooooo, mark f ain't gonna be happy. Eeker

But I will equally defend Jaws to the death.

It is a superior film which will last as long as films exist: Spielberg is a master.. is, note, not was ... Smiler

No way! You are reading the thoughts of a major shark enthusiast! "Jaws" was the movie that scared the crap outta me when I was 9 years old & it got me wondering if sharks were really like that. So, I went to the library & read EVERY book they had on sharks. I know everything there is to know about them. In fact, if it wasn't for that lousy drunk driver, I'd have been a Marine Biologist, & all because of "Jaws"!

Being stuck in a hospital bed for 6-9 months out of the year is the reason I'm a comic book fan, movie fanatic & cartoonist. Get it? All things you can do from a bed! Wink I've actually created my own cartoon characters & have half of a comic done starring them. It's called 'Warnell's 'Hood' & it's surprisingly similar to 'The Boondocks'. I say "surprisingly" because I came up with these characters & their story way back in '92 & a few years ago 'The Boondocks' hit the scene. The major difference is my main characters are in a middle-class (not an upper class) neighborhood & raised by a single mother because that's where & how I was raised. I thought I was being original because most movies & shows with black people put them in the ghetto & I wanted to show that we weren't ALL at the bottom rung of society.

Everyone loves what they've seen so far, but I just don't have the guts to try to get it published. While many people think I'm an extraordinary cartoonist, I still see my problem areas. I can do the characters & backgrounds fine, but when it comes to hands, I'm no good. So, the majority of my 'toons have their hands hidden in some creative way. I keep telling myself, "After I learn hands, I can get it out there!", but the longer I wait, the more my ideas seem to be stolen. Frowner

Monkey Boy, all cartoonists have flaws, all artists across every genre have flaws.

Just get it out there.!

Somewhere out there in the deep dark recesses of the world is someone who will absolutely delight in what you do.

One fan is a universe....Publish or Perish!! Big Grin

Thank you for the encouragement, Ishmael! I guess all I've gotta do now is to see (GULP) a publisher. Eeker Whew! Okay, okay, I can do this. (AHEM!) Yeah, I can do this... Um, know anyone in particular?

Well, publishing comic strips in the States is not an area I can claim any expertise in, unfortunately.

How about trying a local street rag? Get local exposure, then go bigger?

Or make yr own web-zine!! I'd read it... Smiler

Hey! I hadn't thought of that! I do know of quite a few comic book shops & so all I need to do is finish my original, add another few copies to my 1/2 an issue, make a bunch of copies of each & make a deal with my local comic book guy (or in this case, comic book girl). Don't know why I never thought of this before, That's how plenty of comic creator's got started! I'm gonna do it! Big Grin

Go for it Monkey_Boy. I also think that you should post your stuff on-line, maybe make your own website. Somebody will find it and maybe offer you a publishing contract or something! Good luck. Smiler

By the way, I never noticed your location thing. Very funny, from arguably the best show of all time.

Back on the topic at hand, I just came from seeing "TMNT" with my son & it was quite enjoyable! Smiler The fluid movements of the characters were beautiful & the action sequences were very good. I also liked how each turtle was different fron the next. They never took their masks off, but if they had, you would still be able to tell Michaelangelo from Donatello. Rapheal still has the attitude that he's carried in all of the other films & has even knocked it up a notch by becoming the biggest, strongest turtle in the group. The reason to this is answered at the beginning of the film.

The story wasn't bad, & even included the Foot Clan. Don't believe what people are saying about these turtles not bringing back that nostalgic high of the good old days, it's still there. I was in disagreement with it being a computer generated movie AT FIRST, but actors in big clunky costumes just couldn't pull off the stunts these CG turtles could do & a "traditional" cartoon wouldn't have given them the intricate detail they had in their faces & shells. It really was a wonderful movie & there was a hint of a sequel at the end! Wink I recommend this movie, especially if you have kids! A Big Grin

Just watched The Invincible Iron Man, an animated feature from this year, which has hilariously, on the cover "Starring in his first animated movie"!!

Oh, so this action star will be doing some more animation then? Or perhaps he will move to the stage and do Hamlet?? haha

If you like the recent batman cartoons, you shld get a kick outta this.
Its funny, nicely directed, but can only be reservedly recommended to the hardcore Iron Man fanboyz, who will take issue with the origin story as recounted here.

All that remains is for the live action movie to arrive!!!! Smiler

Something else! Big Grin Iron Man is a Marvel Comics superhero! He'll be in his FIRST live action, feature film next year & yes, there are more animated adventures to come. I guess I'll check this one out since Ishmael says it's pretty good. I was nervous about a Direct-to-Video release.

Hey, quit monkeying around and get that direct to video release. Smiler

It's an extended Saturday afternoon cartoon, but very enjoyable all the same.

I'm in 2 minds about Iron Man (2008).

On the positive side, the promo poster is EXCEEDINGLY cool, and promises excellent art direction. The cast is tasty too, and im completely at ease with Downey as Stark.

On the negative, Jon Favreau is not exactly a director of note. Made and Elf aren't more than adequate pictures....

Anyhow, fingers crossed as usual....and not too much CGI!!! Please!!! Big Grin

I guess I should make an apology for the remarks I made about my wife. Frowner She happened to read a little of what I said when she peered over my shoulder, & she didn't like it one bit! I know you guys didn't take it literally (especially Mark F), but she wanted me to make it clear that she isn't an ogre (or she'll eat me! Eeker)

My wife is a wonderful woman & I DO love her very much! She has been there in my time of need & has truly loved me in good times & bad. I only had a hundred movies when we started dating & she has made it possible for me to reach my goal of 100 movies a year, EVERY YEAR! So, to close I will say, she does hate my habit, but she does give into it every now & again. Big Grin

300 Review

OK!! My local bootlegger has come through...300 has been viewed!!

I liked it....but didn't love it, and here is why..

The opening 10 mins or so are excellent as we are shown the young King learning and developing as a soldier.
Snyder does what a director should always do- he shows, he doesn't tell.

There are some amazing filmic moments, like the killing of the bear, and the push over the cliff scene.

The cinematography is superb. The dialogue is simple, but not simplistic.

It is a better film than Gladiator or Braveheart, but it still contains deep flaws.

1. The sub-plot with the Queen and the council is rubbish, and shld have been excised.

2. This film lacks the X factor that could propel it to action classic status. I was never moved by this "movie"; too much CGI kept me at a distance, and there were periods of dullness when lots of things were happening, but never engaged my heart or my eye.

So, all in all an uneven entry into comic book films, but the good moments are very good. Smiler
