HOLY CRAP, IT HAS A METASCORE OF 80!!!!!!!!!!!! Critics actually enjoyed it?! And the users apparently agree with a score of 8.9 (at the moment)! Now I really can't wait to see this tomorrow! Ya know, this movie looked very good from the previews, but it actually stands up to the unforgiving pen of critics so... IT'S APPARENTLY AWESOME! I always knew we could do it. It's about time comic-based flicks finally got done right! Here's to the next one being even better! What's the next one? Here's a rundown of what's to come in the next few months: "The Incredible Hulk" June 13th "Wanted" June 27th "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" July 11th "The Dark Knight" July 18th
There's a rumor that the next Spidey villain is going to be Anti-Venom... I have NO IDEA who he is or where he came from. Apparently he's a spawn of the symbiote that created Venom and Carnage. I guess he was introduced sometime after I stopped reading 'Spider-Man'. Can't say I'm too excited. After the way they did Venom in the third movie, this CAN'T be good. I don't even understand why they're dipping into Spidey's recent rogues gallery. Bring on the Lizard, Electro, the Shocker, Rhino, Mysterio or the Scorpion! Or give us the Hobgoblin! Not a guy in a mask, but the Jason Phillip Macendale, Jr. Hobgoblin! He'd be butt ugly and not even know it and the story could become supernatural when the demon fused to Macendale gets seperated from his host and becomes the Demogoblin! They really should call me and ask for story possibilities. I'm full of 'em!
Finally, I've found out that Gavin Hood is directing "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" with the writing being handled by David Benioff. (I'm not sure if I ever told you guys that before.) VERY COOL!

IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, I know I've gotten excited about most of the comic-based movies I've seen (sorry 'bout my excitement over "Ghost Rider", but that flaming skull had me mesmerized), BUT I AIN'T EXAGGERATING WITH THIS ONE! Oh man, where to start. Um... You really can tell Marvel produced this movie. It stayed very true to the characters and their motivations. Robert Downey Jr. was perfect for the role, as was every actor cast in the movie. There was a great bit for the fans with Jim Rhodes, just after he sees Stark fly off in the suit, he looks back at the Mark II (silver) armor as he makes a statement similar to "I'm next". It's actually not unlike the War Machine armor (as I pointed out earlier) and I'm certain we'll see it in the sequel! The action was top notch! Iron Man VS Iron Monger was an incredible match that tore through a busy street! Lotsa cars were torn up and tossed in this one! The armor, itself, was fantastic to watch in action. The scene with him and the fighter jets? Too cool! The effects work was very good. I'm typing: E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T You really can't tell the difference between the physical armor and the CG versions! Jon Favreau did a great job! Out of this ENTIRE movie, I only have ONE complaint and it takes place at the end: Stark revealed TO THE WORLD he was Iron Man! WHY?! I'm hoping it was just a joke and that he said "Just kidding" afterward, but if it wasn't... Oh, there was no appearence from General Ross, but if you wait through the credits, you'll see a cameo (which I reported might take place) that's EVEN BETTER! I say "EVEN BETTER" because it's Sam Jack as Nick Fury inviting Tony to join THE AVENGERS! A hint at an AVENGERS movie?! GOOD-FREAKIN-GRAVY! You shoulda seen me when I heard Sam's voice come from the shadows. I went nuts! I'm glad the folks sittin' in front of me had left because I kicked the crap outta the chair! I KNEWexactly who he was playing and I couldn't freakin' believe it! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
A
Oh, I also got to see the trailers I desperately wanted to see on the big screen: The new trailer for "The Dark Knight" (not the Joker version, but still!), the second "The Incredible Hulk" trailer with more of the Hulk & the Abomination and the new "Indiana Jones..." flick! There's also a new M. Night movie that I GOTTA SEE: "The Happening"! It's been quite awhile since I've wanted to see a M. Night Shyamalan movie.

Iron Man rocked! And the extra scene after the credits! They have to be making an Avengers film, either that or they're going to mainly focus around the Avengers in the next Iron Man film, they wouldn't have picked such an A list actor otherwise.

I was thinking the exact same thing during that scene
Robert Downey did an awesome job of Tony Stark, and the Mark III was just awesome. That scene where Iron Man first goes into battle was just awesome.
One of the best comic book movies ever!

Well, you know WHY they chose Sam Jack, right? It's because they actually changed Fury a few years ago, making him a spitting image of Samuel L.! It was like when they casted Patrick Stewart as Professor X, just too perfect! (My boy was actually very confused and I had to explain it to him out in the parking lot. He was all, "Isn't Nick Fury supposed to be a white guy?" )
I'm definetly excited about part 2. I'm very curious how they're going to incorporate a team as large as The Avengers in a single movie. They BETTER not do like they did with the X-Men and pick only 5 team members! I don't care if the others are cardboard cut-outs, I wanna see the WHOLE team onscreen for at least a few minutes! There is also talk of the Hulk being in it!
"Iron Man" won the box office war over the weekend taking in 104 million dollars from Thursday to Sunday night! Add in the overseas market, and the total becomes $201 mil! This is the most any Robert Downey, Jr. film has EVER brung in! Will it win its second weekend with "Speed Racer" hitting theaters later this week? We'll soon see! With an opening this well received, they already have a release date for the second: April 30th, 2010

I just came upon a new cartoon series called Wolverine and the X-Men. Although this isn't really "movie news" I thought I’d pop it up.
I have to say, I was a little disappointed when I read it. Basically, Professor X is going to be gone, and Wolverine becomes the leader of the X-Men?
I get it, Wolverine is cool, but come on! I always thought that what made Wolverine so cool was that he was more of a loner/rebel in contrast to characters like Cyclops and Professor X. Oh well.

I enjoy comic-based movies most when they have the fewest changes from the comics as possible ("Sin City") or make the characters even better than they were ("Blade"). "Spider-man" just butchered his origin. And while I got used to Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane, she just wasn't pretty enough for the part. (Have you ever noticed that it seems like she kept her fangs from "Interview with a Vampire"?) I mean MJ's a freakin' supermodel in the comics! Why not take advantage of that and give us an extremely beautiful damsel in distress? I did like "Spider-man 2" quite a bit, though. I just hate that they made Doc Ock go good and then die.
I always haveta recommend the director's cut of "Daredevil", if just for the scene where he ditches Elektra to go fight crime instead of making sweet love. THAT IS SO SUPERHERO! I mean, if you go as far as to put on a costume to fight crime, no skirt in the world will be able to turn your attention from it! It's why I'm not so hard on Mark Steven Johnson's movie making (even if "Ghost Rider" was a little sad). That's how he originally wanted it, but the studio wanted the love scene "for the women in the audience".

Hey, ferget about it! This is for anything and everything comic related! Kinda like my "Star Wars Saga" thread. The Friar and I have discussed all sorts of things Star Wars related, but not necessarily about the movies.

No! No! It's not a gimmick! That sounds like "Days of Future Past"! They did a little of this in the 90's animated series of the X-Men. If this is indeed what they're doing... GOOOOOOOD GRAAAAAAAVY! This is a world similar to what you saw in the beginning of "X-Men: The Last Stand" in the Danger Room. America has become a burning, war-torn land swarming with giant, mutant-hunting robots called Sentinels! Who else could possibly lead the X-Men in this environment? (Actually, he isn't the official leader, he just leads the team in battle when nobody else can!) Lotsa characters die in this one!

Yes, my banana-loving, tree-swinging, happy-go-lucky orangutan child, I, too, loved Iron Man. I highly recommend it. But, I saw it on Saturday and didn't stay for the credits; how foolish of me. Perhaps, if you would have seen it on opening day you could have warned me sooner!
By the way, where is American Splendor on your top ten list? I remember a member with great taste recommended that one to you.
----- These days I'm so slow, all of these thoughts and nowhere to go. My aim it used to be so true, my world had a place in it, darling, just for you.

Sorry 'bout that. I can't get out until the weekend because I'm stuck at home with the kids during the week. I woulda took 'em with me... but the truck ain't runnin' at the mom- Wait. Why am I apologizing?! You don't wait through the credits of the movies you see?! (Or at least FF through 'em on DVD/Blu-ray?) Man! You're ALWAYS supposed to watch the credits! There are times (like this one) when it's well worth the wait! I stupidly drank my ENTIRE large coke during the previews and had to go to the bathroom like a mug THE WHOLE MOVIE and I STILL waited through 'em! SO WORTH IT!

I'm talkin' SUPERHERO comic-based flicks! I quite enjoy "American Splendor" and "Ghost World" (have you seen THAT yet? ), but I don't watch 'em near as often as my ACTION-PACKED and SPECIAL EFFECTS-SATURATED flicks. I'm a self-confessed action junkie, remember? I'm addicted to it. I NEED IT! When I'm in the mood for a small movie (and I occasionally am... mostly when the wife's with me), that's when they're at the top o' my list!
Oh, and Jamshed? That 'toon is gonna be an updated rewrite of "Days...", (it has a few elements, but they've changed quite a bit) so I can't really vouch for it being all that great. Here's the trailer. I wish they'd quit screwin' around and give us the 90's animated series, dag-nab-it! The animation may not have been top-notch, but it was an awesome show!
In "Iron Man" news, Favreau says that he'll probably wait until "Iron Man 3" before he brings in The Avengers in order to bring something new to the table. Smart move, considering how most of these flicks really start to suck at number 3 ("Batman Forever", "Blade: Trinity", "X-Men: The Last Stand", "Spider-man 3", "Superman 3"... do I HAVE to continue?). Hopefully we get a "Blade 2" in "Iron Man 2". Just bigger, better and even more action than the first! THEN bring on (all of) The Avengers in the third to blow the second outta the sky!!!
"The Spirit" has gone from a '09 movie to an '08 one! It's to premiere THIS Christmas!
Check out the FULL THEATRICAL TRAILER for "Hancock"! Good gravy that looks crazy! If you want the FULL STORY, check it out over here. WARNING: LINK IS SOAKING WET WITH SPOILERS! I didn't read it, but alotta the user comments are pretty negative. Then again, most folks hate for hate's sake. I mean, they actually have a few folks saying "Batman Begins" sucked!

Yeah... I’ve already seen the trailer; it actually does look pretty cool. It just seemed a bit lame when I saw a hologram of Professor X’s head (very reminiscent to Zordon) saying: The fate of the world is depending on the X-Men, and YOU must lead them, Wolverine. Like Wolverine is his top choice of leader? Based off some of the other clips with Wolverine, it looks like his persona is going to be more similar to what you would see of Cyclops in the 90’s. Either way, I’ll still watch it
OH! And I almost forgot to mention, is saw the Hancock trailer at the movies, it looks pretty awesome.

Just got back from seeing "Iron Man" again (this time with my sister)... and it's STILL awesome! I think you'd be proud of me, Frag. At the end of the movie, just as the credits started to roll and folks started standing up, I hollared out "There's sumpthin' after the credits!" and most everybody sat back down! My sister claims it was the most embarrassing moment of her life, but I'm sure there are several people who are glad I said something!
This time I got "The Spirit" teaser trailer! It still said "2009", but I'm pretty sure my sources are correct in saying that it's been moved to this Christmas.

And I still think American Splendor should be in your top ten, I consider Pekar a super-hero.

So, ya didn't stay after the credits? I hope you're quick on the click 'cuz I have the scene for ya right here!

DAG-NAB-IT-ALL! I've been to see "Iron Man"TWICE and still missed this little gem! Now I GOTTA see it again! I've also learned that there are going to be talks of a "new" super soldier serum in "The Incredible Hulk". Hints of a "Captain America" flick perhaps? Can't say that excites me too much. His costume sucks and he's a little too clean for my tastes, if you know what I mean. I like my heroes flawed. They'll protect ya, but they ain't gonna give speeches at public schools or dress in the american flag with little wings on their temples, that's fer sure! I'm not saying I won't go see it, I HAVE TO, but I just don't think I'm gonna like it as much as other comic-based movies. Maybe they'll shove so much action down my throat I'll have no choice BUT to enjoy myself!
It's pretty cool how Marvel is connecting their movies the way they are with "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk". I'm suspecting we're gonna see alot more good Marvel flicks (with even more references to other characters, movies and upcoming projects) than we have over the last few years!
Speaking of "Iron Man", it won the box office weekend for the second time! We're definetly getting a sequel!
Check out Sam Jack as The Octopus in "The Spirit"!

Well, it's been awhile since I've had some time to sit at the computer, but I think I have just enough time to share a few trailers, scenes and pics with ya.
They have the latest trailer for The Incredible Hulk" at their website. I'm not real sure if this one is gonna be a big winner, but it seems it'll deliver on the action. The director promises a "Hulk Out" within the first 3 minutes!
An extra on the set of "Watchmen" has leaked MAJOR PLOT POINTS. If you don't mind spoilers, check it out over here.
There is also news that "Spider-Man 4 & 5" will be filmed at the same time. I LOVE IT when they do that! A 2-part Carnage & Lizard story, perhaps? Maybe when Connors accidentily changes himself into The Lizard, he knocks over the vial that contains the symbiote and it doesn't find Cletus until close to the end to leave us with a mighty big cliffhanger?! It could happen!

Ha! The guy that is playing the Punisher looks alot like Steven Seagal in one of those pictures.
Now I'm not sure what the new Hulk movie is about exactly, but as long as the Hulk isn't fighting a gigantic transparent Nick Nolte in the sky, I'll probably catch it.
