Thanks for putting up the Dark Knight pics, they look amazing. I can't wait for the film!
I am not a huge fan of comic-based movies, except for the Batman franchise. But after seeing this [and possible how ridiculously good Ledger will be] I will cry.

Hey, who do you think you're typing to? Of course I'd love a "Jaws" remake with a CG (or, at the very least, a proper mechanical) shark! Maybe we'd finally get to see the death of Hooper and Quint could die the way he did in the book... tied to the friggin' shark!

Well, I'm glad I could help.
Oh, and by the way, here's the new trailer for "Hellboy II: The Golden Army"!

I have question about Hellboy: Would I need to watch the first one in order to understand or appreciate things about the sequel?
I watched the trailer, and don't know about how good/bad its comic book origins fare. It doesn't seem too bad and I have no idea what I'm talking about here but...it reminds me of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

Probably. There might be a recap of the first at the start of this one, but if you really wanna know the characters, you'll have to see it. It was a movie that I enjoyed the more times I watched it. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it has plenty of heart, action and humor. (Besides, you get to see Hellboy as a little baby! He's so gosh darn cute! ) I recommend ya watch the director's cut, it gives ya just a little more than the theatrical version did. Not a whole lot, but a little more.

Del Toro worked with Mike Mignola (the creator) to stay as true to the characters as he could and Mignola is very happy with the final film. His whole idea behind the comic was that he wanted to draw NOTHING but monsters, so he created a comic that featured a monster that fought other monsters. I'm fairly certain you've gathered that the story isn't all that complicated. A fun popcorn flick is what you should expect. It's definetly better than "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".
It's always hard for me to watch "The League...", though. What, with Sean Connery completely embarressing himself by admitting that he had turned down roles in "The Matrix" and "The Lord of the Rings" because he didn't understand them and then he took the role in this movie based on the fact that he STILL didn't understand it! He took a chance... and failed miserably. The poor guy. I didn't think the movie was all that bad, but it really could've should've been better. If only Alan Moore wasn't so against his comics becoming films. He refuses to have anything to do with the filmmaking process and it's the reason his great stories don't turn out as great on the big screen ("From Hell", "V for Vendetta", "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen", maybe"Watchmen", BUT HOPEFULLY NOT!). Then again, Marvel has their hands all over "The Incredible Hulk" and they're making quite a few changes I ain't happy about!
Oh, and it is now too late to view those Joker pics I posted yesterday. They're gone! At least a few of ya got a peek at 'em.

Wow, I sure am glad I got to see those pics, they were really cool!
I haven't seen Hellboy either but I think I will, soon. I remember watching Pan's Labyrinth and being tremendously impressed with Guillermo del Toro's direction. I then later realized that he directed the former so I have been meaning to check it out. I'll let you know what I think after I see it.

Oh wow, I had no idea From Hell and V for Vendetta were comic-based. I supposed that is because that Mr. Moore didn't want to be involved with them.
I saw From Hell when it was released and loved it for the movie it was. (Johnny Depp and Ian Holm were fantastic). And I actually just saw V last week and thought it was amazing. If those movies were not as good as their book I would seriously consider going out of my comfort zone (regular fiction) and reading those two.

Oh, you'd be surprised at what's out there! DC's Vertigo books are plenty "adult" and contain some great stories like: Stardust (yep, it was a comic-based movie too), Y: The Last Man (it's currently being made into a movie starring Shia LaBeouf), V for Vendetta and Hellblazer (it was "Constantine" and they COMPLETELY screwed him up! For starters, they mispronounced his name and screwed up his origin!). To tell you the truth, there aren't many comic-based movies that have given their books justice. If you were to go back and read through most of this thread, you'll find all sorts of complaints about this movie or that changing characters and plotlines. I can only really think of 3 that stayed as true to the original work as possible: "Sin City", "Hellboy" and "Batman Begins"
For me, I love comic-based movies for the simple fact that they bring my favorite characters to life. Sure, alotta times they're completely different than the characters I fell in love with, but there are aspects they keep from the comics and that makes it all worth while. Ya see, while "Ghost Rider" really did end up sucking monkey butt (I liked it at first, but it hasn't held up well with repeated viewings), I just got a thrill outta seein' that flaming skull up on the big screen! While Singer really screwed up "X-Men", I still got a kick outta seeing Wolverine pop his claws and fight Sabretooth, Mystique, and [Lady] Deathstrike! While "Spider-Man" made sure to stay coated in a thick layer of cheese, I still thoroughly enjoyed watching him swing through the city and take on the bad guys! That's just me though. I can ignore the many problems as long as they deliver what I'm lookin' for: ACTION LIKE A MUG! However, as the medium gets more respect, we're getting more respectable comic-based movies. (Hello! "Batman Begins", anyone?) So I'm only getting more excited as each new project is announced!

Well, I just found out that the reason Warner Bros. wanted those pics outta the spotlight was because they might not be in the movie. It seems they find the picture of a dead Heath Ledger... a bit disturbing. So the scene may be cut. Notice how I put "might" and "may" in bold? I'm thinkin' it's gonna be like the whole twin towers debacle we had back in '01. Remember when they took 'em outta "Spider-Man" (although you can still see 'em in his eyes when they pull back from his face during the montage) and shelved several movies involving explosions and terrorists because they weren't sure if the American public was ready to view such things? So they're probably putting together focus groups to find out if others would find this image distastful. He's not really dead in the scene (he's faking it), so I don't see a big problem. I say Ledger played the part, the best way to honor his death would be to honor his character in his final film. If I were starring in a film, I would want as much of my footage in the picture as friggin' possible. Especially if I had died before the movie was released!

I agree, I want to see as much of a crazy Joker as possible. And if it isn't all in the movie I hope they at least have some sort of DVD special with Heath Ledger.
About the Rachel Dawes character, did you really like Holmes for it?

Let me put it this way: She didn't bother me as much as Jake Lloyd's performance in "The Phantom Menace".
It's not that I think Katie Holmes was phenomenal as Rachel Dawes or anything like that, I just HATE it when actors and actresses are switched up for sequels. It takes me out of the movie for a moment because I recognize that this wasn't the same person who played "whomever" in the last movie. It even bothers me with minor characters, like Jennifer in "Back to the Future"! If they couldn't get Mrs. Cruise back to reprise her role, they shoulda just made some excuse for why she wasn't there and brung in Gyllenhaal as a different character. (As a new assistant D.A., for instance. It does happen, ya know.) Now the movies aren't gonna line up seamlessly when watched back-to-back!
"The Spirit" promo art! I gotta get these posters for The Den! Then I'd be the coolest 30-year-old on the block.

Hey, guys, how many of you joined ibelieveinharveydent.com? If ya did, then you've already received quite a few emails including this one:
Harvey Dent is committed to truth and honesty in governing. He is also committed to truth and honesty in campaigning. And the honest truth is that we’ve had a tough week.
Everyone who knows Harvey Dent knows that the vicious smears by a mysterious group calling itself "Concerned Citizens for a Better Gotham" are not true. Harvey Dent is innocent of these charges, and the truth will triumph.
Harvey Dent believes that the movement to take back Gotham is bigger than one person. It’s never been about Harvey Dent. It’s about our hopes for our city. It’s about you.
Harvey Dent has always said that if he becomes a distraction from the bigger issues of the movement to fight crime and corruption, he’ll make the best decision for the movement itself.
We’ve done a lot in the last few months. We’ve shown the city that we will not stop fighting against the dark forces that have Gotham in their grasp. We showed everyone that we do have power. That there is hope for Gotham City.
The I Believe in Harvey Dent campaign will be holding a press conference today at 3:00 pm (EDT). The audio will be streaming live at www.ibelieveinharveydent.com. Whatever Harvey Dent says, I know one thing – I’m proud of him. And I’m proud of all of you.
I still believe in Harvey Dent. Do you?
Allan Cypes Media Manager, Dent for DA
However, it turns out that the press conference was canceled due to a hostage crisis! Check out the audio of what went down!
By the way, I've recently learned that Nolan WILL NOT change a thing about The Joker! He says that Ledger's performance was fantastic and that there is no way they are going to take anything away from it. That's some good news! I was a little apprehensive about the changes they've made to my favorite bat-villain, but I'm extremely curious to see what they did with him. They did keep the insane aspect of the character!

True, but Gyllenhaal might just help the movie even more than she "disrupts" the flow, which is always better than nothing.

True. True. I'm just whining, is all. It's just a pet-peeve of mine. I doubt I'll be sitting in the theater copping an attitude the whole time or anything like that. I just don't take to change very well. It's my problem. I'll deal with it.
I have a bit more "news" for you guys: There will be a direct-to-DVD/Blu-ray inbetween-quel that will bring you up to speed on what went down after the events of "Batman Begins". It will be called "Batman: Gotham Knights" and will be six interlocking short animated films, each directed by a different person. Kevin Conroy will be reprising his role from the animated series. The stories are: Have I Got a Story for you – directed by Koji Morimoto and written by Josh Olson. Crossfire – directed by Futoshi Higashide and written by Greg Rucka. Field Test – directed Hiroshi Morioka and written by Jordan Goldberg. In Darkness Dwells – directed by Yasuhiro Aoki and written by David Goyer. Working Through Pain – directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka and written by Brian Azzarello. Deadshot – directed by Jong-Sik Nam and written by Alan Burnett. It'll be released July 8th.
Hey! You guys remember that "Iron Man" trailer, right? They're making it into a movie! Check out the story here! This is great stuff! Absolutely hilarious!
Some very funny footage of Stark taking his suit for its first rocket boots test!! I'm telling you, this movie has gotta be great! I'm loving how we're actually going to see him creating the suit... and perfecting it. Very cool.

It has been revealed that the scene Stark has in "The Incredible Hulk" is going to be in a bar with General Ross! So, does this mean we will definetely see something like THIS in the near future???????????!!!!!!!!!!!! I can only hope!
I was over at my favorite comedy site the other day (Cracked.com) and I found this little gem: 8 (Pointless) Laws All Comic Book Movies Follow Ain't it the truth?! Number 6 & 3 are my BIGGEST pet-peeves when it comes to these movies.

We also have another poster. They STILL have him all wrong. Batman "LIVES" on the ROOFTOPS of Gotham, DAG-NAB-IT! But it is a cool shot, though. And a few more.
"Iron Man" arrives THIS FRIDAY! I hope you guys are ready for this. It should be awesome as all get out! One final clip? They say it's a flight stabilizer, but that certainly seemed to be the repulsor rays he was workin' on. Maybe they're the same thing.
And here's an article from 'Popular Mechanics' that asks the question: Are Comic Book Movies Destroying Science Fiction Films? Me, personally, I don't consider them to be sci-fi movies at all. They're "comic-based" not "science-based". Sure, they have science aspects in some, but not enough for me to refer to them as science fiction stories. Especially since (as the article points out) the scientific theories make NO SENSE in a real scientific world.
