Good gravy, Frag ! You really are feenin' for that comic-based movie news ! Well, let's see here (newspaper rustles)...
I believe several pages ago, I told ya Brian Singer was going to put off "Superman: The Man of Steel". Turns out, it ain't true. Singer is actually working on 2 movies right now, "Valkyrie" & "Superman". So, we should see him back on the big screen next year!
As far as new information on "The Dark Knight", Anthony Michael Hall will be a character specifically from the comic series. Edward Nygma! Another surprising development, Aaron Eckhart has been seen in Two-Face make-up! That would give this movie a total of 4 villains, the Joker, Scarecrow, Riddler, & Two-Face!
Filming has wrapped on "Iron Man" & Jon Favreau decided to have a little sit down with the fellas over at Comics 2 Film. Why are all the big comic cons in California?! I wanna see the teaser & get a poster signed! There is an annual one that comes through Kansas, but they mostly have playmates walkin' around. Where are the comic artists & writers?! Where are the directors in the midwest?! I have to say, I'm glad he's not changing too much from the comics. It's good news when you hear, "...you had questions about Iron Monger/Mandarin/Obadiah Stane. My response is read the books." It's too bad the "Sam Jackson as Nick Fury" rumor wasn't true . This should be a great movie, I just hope we don't have another "Elektra" (or even worse, "Supergirl").
I finally grabbed "Hellboy: Blood & Iron" & it was alot more "down to earth" than the last one. It's your basic vampire story, but since this is Hellboy, there is a twist. There is a scene at the beginning that just cracked me up! You know how, in movies, a villain will leave behind clues in order to get a cop to follow the path? There is a villain like that here & when Hellboy finds her clue, Abe starts to ask him about its significance & Hellboy just says, "Who cares." & destroys it. They show the villain standing there shocked that it wasn't going to be that easy ! An interesting part of the story is the flashback sequences. They are of Prof. Broom's first time out in the field & are told backwards. At the beginning of the movie you see him defeat the enemy & by the end of the movie you see him getting ready to go out & fight this evil that has gripped a small town. If you enjoyed the first toon & you love the character of Hellboy, you gotta have this one! The one I got came with 2 mini Hellboy comics! I love it when they do that! A
Oh & just in case you hadn't read my review on "Supergirl" in the 'Recent Movies...' thread... "IT STINKS!!!!!""Elektra" was NEVER the worst comic based movie ever made! Do actors NOT ask what their characters motivation is? In the movie, Faye Dunaway plays an insane woman who practices sorcery & has aspirations to take over the world, but her plans are sidetracked when she wants the love of the neighborhood landscapist! That ends up being the whole movie! The acting was awful & even I couldn't find a single redeeming thing about this movie. Even the effects were ugly! Not even the cuteness that is Helen Slater could save such crap! F-
Well, that's all the info I have for now & I'll try to stay on top o' this thread for you salivating fans !

Interesting news as always, you ape-loving, chimp-liking, baboon-hating, monkey/boy!
I am mostly interested in the Iron Man and The Dark Knight news. I had also heard about Hall being in the film but you are correct, there is still no character given for him. A lot of villains worries me but we won't know until the movie is finished.
I am really looking forward to Iron Man, I feel they picked an outstanding cast and all of the actors are great Oscar-nominated and Oscar-winning actors.
----- I go to sleep and think you're next to me.

You dare question the knowledge of Monkey_Boy?! I AM ALL KNOWING! I AM NEVER WRO-- Hey! Wait a second... OOPS ! You're right. Okay, slight change, I read, "...sequel that has been scheduled to start early ‘08", too fast. Singer is working on "The Man of Steel" as he is working on "Valkyrie", but the shooting doesn't begin until '08. Nice catch, Trekscribbler, but let me tell you something: Don't ever correct me. It sickens me.

You could've taken the easy way out and said, "What I meant was that the teaser trailer was inevitable for the big screen in the holiday season '08," and I wouldn't have had much to counter.
P.S. I call my dog "Monkey Boy" when he's misbehaving.

Uh, yeah, that's what I meant! The teaser would be out next year! (Is it too late to say that now?)

Do you guys wanna see a teaser trailer for "The Dark Knight"? Then go see "The Simpsons" on June 27th! Every one of my sources are buzzing about the news, so it's gotta be true, huh? In other news on "The Dark Knight", Michael Jai White has joined the cast as a gangster named Gamble. He's trying to take over the Gotham Criminal Underworld since Carmine Falcone was taken out by Scarecrow. The Falcone Family won't be taking this lying down with Sal Maroni (played by Eric Roberts) filling Carmine's shoes.
Now, who remembers the 'Spawn' cartoon that used to come on HBO? Weeeeell, it's its 10th Anniversary & they're celebrating with a 4-Disc Set! Hmmmmm, 39.98? Guess I'm gonna have to get creative with the checkbook so the wife won't grow wise to my having purchased it. With over 750 DVD's, it's hard for her to notice new ones.
The TOP 20 CMB list has changed slightly 20. "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer" (2007) 125.3/98.1 19. "Hulk" (2003) 132.1/113.1 18. "Superman" (1978) 134.2/166.0 17. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (1990) 135.2/66.7 16. "Fantastic Four" (2005) 154.5/165.1 15. "Over the Hedge" (2006) 154.8/150.2 14. "X-Men" (2000) 157.1/138.7 13. "Batman Returns" (1992) 162.8/104.0 12. "Batman Forever" (1995) 184.0/152.5 11. "Men In Black 2" (2002) 190.4/251.4 10. "Superman Returns" (2006) 200.0/190.0 9. "Batman Begins" (2005) 205.3/166.4 8. "300" (2007) 210.6/244.4 7. "X2: X-Men United" (2003) 214.9/191.5 6. "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006) 234.2/207.2 5. "Men In Black" (1997) 250.6/338.7 4. "Batman" (1989) 251.1/160.1 3. "Spider-Man 3" (2007) 334.5/550.1 2. "Spider-Man 2" (2004) 373.3/410.4 1. "Spider-Man" (2002) 403.7/418.0
"Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer" has knocked "The Mask" completely off the board!
Well, that's all I can find! See ya in the funny pages!

Dang, Ish-man! I own all of 'em except for "Batman Forever"! I'll never own that P.O.S., but I will be grabbing "300" & "Fantastic 4 II" when they're released. Are you tellin' me you didn't like the original "Superman" or Tim Burton's "Batman" movies? You didn't even like "Men in Black"? I'm sure you didn't like the second one, I even hate the second one, but my wife bought that one!
Would you like to know the story-outline of "Watchmen"? Here's the synopsis: "Watchmen" is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" – which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union – is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion – a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers – Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity... but who is watching the Watchmen?" Sounds exciting !!! Sounds like he's not going to set it in the 00's afterall!
I also have some Joker pics & some spy video footage from the set. Check 'em out! And it's been confirmed! Two-Face will be making an appearance in "The Dark Knight"!
Finally, "Stardust" is getting rave reviews! Maybe we finally have a movie even Ishmael could enjoy this Summer!

I go home for 12 days soon to breathe some fresh air, so I will have to remember to pick up my copy of Watchmen, just for comparison, ha ha!! Been a few yrs since I read it. In fact, I'm so old, I read the original comics!!
Stardust looks good. I really like Gaiman's work. I see the director is making a Thor movie!!!! Thor!!! By Odin's beard!!
Catch ya, vine swinging brother...

NO!!! Don't do it! It'll only piss you off when you go to see it with the story fresh in your mind! Trust me, I know. You'd do better to read it AFTER you've watched the movie.
I have sad, sad, terrible news . "Green Hornet" is going to be campy! Campy like "Batman: The Movie", not"Batman & Robin" campy. At least I hope not that kinda crappy, I mean, campy. How campy is it gonna get? Well, it'll be written by Seth Rogan... and it just may have him in the starring role. Just in case you don't know who Seth Rogan is, he's the dude from "40-Year-Old Virgin" who is now starring in "Knocked Up". He ain't really got the "superhero look" as far as I'm concerned. Especially if he's to be the Green Hornet. I guess all we can hope for is that if it is gonna be campy, that they at least do it well & make it darn hilarious. We already know the guy is funny, but can he be funny & stay true to the character?
"Wolverine" has a director: Academy Award Winner for "Tsotsi" & South African native Gavin Hood. Once again, they get a foreign director to do a comic book movie. This didn't fare well for "Hulk" because the director put more thought into the movie than making it a mindless action picture. I would actually love to have a Wolverine movie with some serious substance to it, but, as we found out with "Hulk", most people wouldn't like it. The story will follow the newer Frank Miller 'Weapon X' storyline. This only brings one question to mind, WHEN THE $#@* DID FRANK MILLER DO WEAPON X?

More news from the Comic-Based Movie frontlines, of which, I'm proud to stand in your places.
For those of you concerned with the production of "The Punisher", a new Frank Castle has been cast... Star of HBO's "Rome", Ray Stevenson. I ain't seen anything this guy has been in, so I have no idea how well he can pull it off. Here's hoping.
In my last post I expressed complete disapproval of how they planned on filming a "campy" "Green Hornet", but there just may be a nice casting in his sidekick, Kato. Stephen Chow! Now this is a guy that can truly combine action & comedy! This is only a rumor at the moment, but, ooooh, how I hope it ends up true!
In "Iron Man" news, Avi Arad confirmed to Mtv News that Samuel L. Jackson & Hillary Swank will be making cameo appearances! Our original information of Jackson playing Nick Fury is probably true. I have no idea who Swank is to play. Fury's secretary?
Todd McFarlane also sat down with Mtv & discussed his"Passion of the Anti-Christ". He's redoing "SPAWN"!!!!!! Not a sequel, but a "reboot", as he calls it. He's always been bothered by the wimpy PG-13 version of old & has wanted to bring his R rated version to the big screen for quite some time. Since the studios won't back him, he's footin' the bill. Here's the story in his words: "Well you know, nobody wanted to give [Mel Gibson] the money, so he went out and did it. [So] it's like, "Fine, I've got an idea, I want to do it and nobody wants to fund it. Well, don't worry. Stop hurting yourself, guys. I'll go and do it myself, but I don't want to f---ing hear you bitching when I'm sitting there and I got the money. And you better hope this thing doesn't work as well as I think it's going to work, because these are the moments where you don't like neurotic artists being independent of your system. So we'll just rock on, and if it doesn't work, so what? But I'm telling you, it's going to work, guys."
I can't wait for this baby to hit the theaters! (Hopefully there won't be a little kid sidekick in this one!)

So who's supposed to be directing Green Hornet? Stephen Chow seems like the right choice, so I'll cross both fingers. I used to watch "The Green Hornet" 40 years ago on my little B&W TV!

It just hit me that they hadn't mentioned a director! One hasn't been picked up yet, but I'll post it as soon as the info becomes available, Mr. F!

I'm back with more news ! I found pictures of the finished Iron Man 'Mark 1' armor & they look great! Look here! You can click on the pictures to get a much larger look at 'em! I'm liking it alot!
You guys wanna know what the Hulk is gonna look like next year? Here's a video of his unveiling! Just after it there should be video available for the viewing of the Iron Man armor I just showed ya pictures of AND the new teaser for "The Dark Knight"! I gave ya a link, just in case things change ! It's only audio, but you get to hear what Heath Ledger is gonna sound like as the Joker. Not too bad, but I gotta see it with the face. Oh, I also found this banned "Spider-Man" trailer! I was disappointed when they took the scene outta the movie after the 9/11 attacks because it looked so flippin' cool! Then I was even more disappointed to find it wasn't on the DVD either! Whoa, whoa, whoa... this is supposed to be NEW movie news, I better get outta YouTube!
Ahem, okay, let's see... Oh! John Singleton has been asked to direct "Black Panther"! You can read up on his side here.
In "Watchmen" news, Snyder is going to be filming it the smae way he filmed "300". Don't worry, guys. The movie will have sets. But he'll utilize CG backgrounds when they film the Mars & Antartic scenes. The cast so far, will be made up of: Rorschach - Jackie Earle Haley The Comedian - Jeffery Dean Morgan The Silke Spectre - Malin Akerman The Night Owl - Patrick Wilson Ozymandias - Matthew Goode
"Hellboy 2" has a new release date, July 11th, 2008. no word on why.
And finally, in "Green Hornet" news, Seth Rogan has said that this will be a straight-up action movie. OH YEAH!!!!
