SPOILER ALERT!!!!! There may be things ahead that could be construed as giving away too much! Read at your own risk! Just got in from "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer" & it was pretty enjoyable. I'm most happy with what they've done with the Thing. His costume was a HUGE improvement over the last movie. The Surfer, himself, looked great & Laurence Fishburne's voice was very regal. It gave him nobility & made him sound as I've always thought he should. Now, I don't know alot about the Silver Surfer, but they made him powerless without his board. I don't really think that's how his powers work, I guess they had to come up with some way to capture him. Otherwise, he's pretty much unstoppable. The action was very good & you didn't see the entire chase in the trailer when the Human Torch is following the Surfer around the city. (I gotta admit, I loved that entire scene !) Doom is freed when the Surfer flies over Latveria & his power is distributed throughout the land. The effects work was very good. If only they could give Reed's stretching powers more attention. Just like in the first, you can tell his stretching is the result of CGI effects. As for my major beef with the film, no Watcher, no Ultimate Nullifier, & NO GALACTUS! What kinda crap is that?! Okay, we didn't really NEED the Watcher, but the Ultimate Nullifier is the only weapon that can scare Galactus off! I'm not understanding why the director was talking about designing Galactus, he wasn't in the movie. Unless you count the giant cloud vortex that comes down upon the Earth at the end. I even stayed until the credits were over to see if maybe there might be a quick glimpse of him as he ventures out into space. Nope, nothing at all. This really makes no sense because the director KNEW fans were going to be looking for the world devourer & he even bold faced lied about his appearance! I gave the first "Fantastic 4" a 6/10. This one was slightly better & gets a 7/10. If you thought the first was alright, then you should enjoy this one. However, if you didn't like the first at all, you might wanna skip it.

I come with more news for you wild & crazy Fanboys & girls! "The Avengers" is scheduled to hit theaters by 2012! That's right, "The Avengers"! With several characters already established with their own actors, the biggest question is, who will be playing who? Will Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man) or Edward Norton (Hulk) reprise their roles? Not to mention, whoever they get to play Captain America or Thor in their solo flicks. Another question is, who will make up the team? The Avengers' roster has changed many times over the years. Most recently, the Avengers are made up of: Echo, Ronin (formerly Hawkeye), Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Iron Fist, & Luke Cage (who is currently leading the team). As for the past teams, they consisted of: Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Giant-Man, Ant-Man, The Wasp, Iron Man, Quasar, Sersi, She-Hulk, Vision, Black Widow, Rage, Tigra, Scarlet Witch, Wonder Man, Crystal, Hercules, & probably a few others. I'm going by memory & I haven't read EVERY 'Avengers' comic. I doubt they'll make the team more than 5 people. I mean, look at how big the selection was for Brian Singer to choose from to assemble an X-Team. Not counting the students, there were 4 (Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, & Wolverine) in the first one. He even slimmed The Brotherhood down to only 4 members! How is 4 people a "Brotherhood"?! This movie will be hot on the heels of "Justice League" which already has an approved script.
I have new news on the casting of "Watchmen"! Keanu Reeves was recently offered a part, but he turned it down. He may not want any part in it, but John Cusack wants to! He's been quoted as saying, "I haven't read the script nor have I ever met Mr. Snyder," said Cusack. "I thought that was a really, really cool comic. I'm into it. But, you know, we have to talk to Zack's representatives. Warner Bros. might want Ashton Kutcher." I know he's joking, but Kutcher over Cusack? How awful would that be?! There are rumors that Jackie Earle Haley ("Little Children") will be taking the part of Rorschach & Patrick Wilson (also in "Little Children") will take the part of Nite Owl. Neither actor has denied the rumor.
That's all the news I have for now! See ya in the funny pages!

That's a pretty cool bat suit. I like it's slick and muscular look, much better than the one they used in Batman and Robin.
I heard that Gerard Butler (The Phantom of the Opera, 300) is rumored to play the role of Rorschach and that they want to get Jude Law to be Ozymandias.

Yes, Mr. Butler (Don't forget, he was in "Dracula 2000", too! I recently saw the movie again & was shocked at how young he looked compared to what he looked like in "300"!) was rumored to be apart of the film, but I haven't read anything new on him in months since then. Jude Law is new to me, though. Last I heard, the part of Ozymandias was to be played by Tom Cruise, but I guess that's why they call 'em rumors, huh ? I can't wait until the cast is set in stone!

I just found out that The Bat-Cycle will be coming to "The Dark Knight"! However, it won't be called the Bat-Cycle, but the Batpod. It looks pretty sweet. Check it out! The picture's a little dark, but you get the idea!
Earlier, I told you guys about John Singleton's desire to bring Luke Cage to the big screen. He was thinking that it was having trouble getting there because it's a black superhero, but that just wasn't the case. According to the studio, they just wanted a better script. Now that Tyrese Gibson is interested in the title role, it seems the ball is rolling a tad bit faster to get this project up & running.
There are also 2 other comic related projects set to hit the big screen this year, but the dates haven't been set yet. The first is "Southland Tales", set in the futuristic landscape of Los Angeles on July 4, 2008, as it stands on the brink of social, economic and environmental disaster. Boxer Santaros is an action star who's stricken with amnesia. His life intertwines with Krysta Now, an adult film star developing her own reality television project, and David Clark, a Hermosa Beach police officer who holds the key to a vast conspiracy. It will star Sarah Michelle Gellar, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Sean William Scott, Mandy Moore, Janeane Garofalo, Christopher Lambert, John Larroquette, John Lovitz, Cheri Oteri, Will Sasso, & Justin Timberlake. The second is "El Muerto", it's about a young man who dies on the Mexican holiday the Day of the Dead, only to be resurrected one year later, by the Aztec Gods of Death and Destiny, with supernatural powers. It will star Wilmer Valderrama, Angie Cepeda, Joel David Moore, Maria Conchita Alonso, Billy Drago, Tony Plana, Michael Parks, & Tony Amendola.

I must say FF Rise of the Silver Surfer maybe the worst new era comic book movie to hit the big screen. I'm not counting Man-Thing or any straight to video release. Yes it was worse then Ghostrider and Daredevil and even Elecktra.
First it was over before it got started. I checked my watch after watching it and was surprised to find it just at or under 90 minutes (86 to be exact). The movie itself was, for the most part, a commentary of celebrities trying to live a normal life. Ok I could deal with that but at least throw in some great action, no such luck. The only great scene was the chase scene with the Surfer and that was in the preview.
I didn't care about the "wedding of the century", the Thing had absolutely nothing to do, Doom was in it to provide the movie with a legit villian, and the Surfer was all talk no action. As for the ending, I don't even want to pretend that was suppose to be anything other than a cloud of smoke. In the end, the world didn't feel threatened, lives were not in jeopardy, and I left feeling like I watched an extended trailer for the Silver Surfer movie.

There is NO way it was worse than "Elektra". No way. I admit, it wasn't FANTASTIC, but it wasn't awful. I, myself, was also disappointed that Galactus ended up being a "thunderstorm", but what are ya gonna do? I hear the Black Panther is going to be in part 3. That could be good.
In other news, Samuel L. Jackson will have a small role in "Iron Man" as Nick Fury! Now, there are probably some of you thinking, "Nick Fury's a white guy!" & you would have been right, a few years ago. When Marvel rebooted several of its titles, they changed origins, team members, & made Nick Fury black! In fact, he looks very similar to Sam Jackson!
Here is an interview with Marvel president Kevin Feige on the development of "The Incredible Hulk". Brace yourself, Ishmael, he dogs the one with Bana! Well, sorta.
Also, don't forget "Hellboy: Blood & Iron" is for sale!

To Mr. Feige, I deliver thus: you sir, are a complete and utter wanker!!!!
There. 3 angry faces should get the message across. The Bixby show, for one, is so old, that only old bastards like me remember it. Also, its camp! I don't want a Hulk like that Schumacher Batman disaster. No wonder I haven't bought a Marvel comic in yrs. damn fools.

I know what yer sayin', Ish-man! I just watched "HULK" today & I was still in awe of the way the movie was shot & how they really kept the TRUE NATURE of the comic. Bruce Banner isn't a happy guy, & he has a lotta emotional angst going on inside. Betty's love for him & General Ross' hatred were all there. I especially love the moment when he changes on Talbot in the house! Did you see the look on his face?! PRICELESS !!!!!! I'm am very curious to see how the sequel turns out. With as much as they keep trashing this one, I'm thinking it's gonna be the complete opposite of the first. But, then you have Edward Norton playing Bruce, William Hurt will be General Ross, & Tim Roth as the Abomination. Three actors I respect, that don't really play cheezie "comic book" roles. So, all this talk about more action & less story seems very strange, indeed.

SLIGHT retraction from an earlier post, William Hurt was in that "OH, SO AWFUL!" Lost in Space" flick! So, I guess we can't really say HE hasn't done a P.O.S. movie . Of course, some would say (I wouldn't, but some would) that Tim Roth took a misstep with "Planet of the Apes". And if you really wanna nitpick, Edward Norton was in "Kingdom of Heaven". I just realized something... THIS MOVIE COULD SUCK !!!! But, hopefully it won't !
As far as Spidey 4 news, if Raimi takes to doing a fourth, we will have the pleasure of seeing The Sinister Six! There's only 2 problems with this: 1. They killed Doc Ock! 2. They made Sandman a good guy before he was really EVER a bad guy!
Looks like they may be replacing a couple members. Or maybe Sandman will still need to commit crimes to save his daughters life. I dunno.
Care to see the Jokermobile? Look at this! Notice the little "WTF?" under the picture? Apparently, somebody's not impressed .
Wanna see what the cast of "Iron Man" looks like in their respective characters? Lookin' good! From left to right: Terrence Howard as Jim Rhodes, Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia "Pepper" Potts, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, and Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane aka Iron Monger.

I wasn't saying it was bad, it was just what I've heard from a number of people. You're the FIRST that's admitted to liking it. I was also surprised to see it with a sixty-something Metacritic score. Still, some would say it wasn't all that great, mostly due to Orlando Bloom's performance. At least, that's the complaints I've heard.

Orlando Bloom is particularly bad in the movie, but it can't detract from the rest of what, I think, is Ridley Scott's best film since Blade Runner. A large part of what makes the film terrific is the script by William Monahan, who wrote The Departed, and the fact that Scott uses a variety of shots, and angles, unlike Gladiator, which I hate for all its claustrophobic emphasis on close-ups.

I just got through watchin' "Superman II: The Donner Cut" & I just had to gush about it! I left a small review in the 'Recent Movies' thread, but I figured this was the appropriate place to talk about it in a bit more detail.
First off, the beginning is completely different. There are no french terrorists with homemade hydrogen bombs in this version! (French terrorists with a WMD? Who came up with that one?!) They actually make the release of the 3 Kryptonian criminals happen in the first movie! When Superman takes one of the missles, that Luthor launched, out into space, the camera follows the missle to the prisoners where it explodes & sets them free. Donner also restored HIS version of Lois putting herself in peril to prove Clark is Superman. No longer at Niagra Falls, she leaps out of Perry White's office window! We also have Marlon Brando back! In the theatrical version, Brando wanted more money to do anymore work. So they replaced him with a generic Krytonian librarian &, instead of Superman's father, his mother. NOW Brando is there in all his glory! We also get a new (much better) way that Clark reveals himself to be Superman. I always thought that was just too clumsy, even for Clark Kent, to just trip into a fire like he did in the theatrical version. The end was better than the original as well. But one thing confounds me. In both movies, he turns back time, & yet, he never has to re-save the world. It's like all the bad things just didn't happen! How does that work exactly?
All in all, very good & I would even go so far to say,"You've never seen "Superman II" if you ain't seen it from Richard Donner, himself."
