The Weinstein Company and Genius Products announced today that the two films that made up the classically under-rated Grindhouse release will hit DVD on two separate, extended and unrated DVDs.
Quentin Tarantino's serial-killer homage to the old school car chase film, Death Proof will hit shelves with over 30 minutes of additional, never-before-seen footage including the maddening "missing reel" (containing the excised lapdance sequence) as well as a black and white segment in the film's second act. The DVD will hit on September 18, 2007 for a price of $29.95. Features will include:
Finding Quentin's Gals The Guys of Death Proof Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike Introducing Zoe Bell Quentin's Greatest Collaborator: Editor Sally Menke Double Dare trailer International Poster Gallery
Meanwhile, the Robert Rodriguez zombie entry, Planet Terror, will attack with more footage, deleted scenes, a full commentary and the infamous missing reel. That disc will drop on October 16, 2007 for a price of $29.95 and its features will include:
Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Robert Rodriguez International trailer Deleted Scenes Cooking School 10-Minute Film School The Stunts The Make-up and Effects The Badass Babes The Renegade Guys The Costumes The Production Design

I actually like the idea of both of them being released on separate days, in separate months. This will give me the opportunity to start saving money for one of them and still have a whole month more to save up for the other. I loved both of the films and was also disappointed with its underrated response.
I don't think I saw that you mentioned the trailers from the feature. I wonder if they will be on one or both of the DVDs. Thanks for the information.

I think it sucks that there won't be a Theatrical Version! I liked watching it the way it was with the "missing reels" & everything! Plus, waiting an extra month for "Planet Terror"really sucks!

I think the theatrical version will also be included in the DVDs M_B--hence the price. I think, but I might be wrong. It would be disappointing if they weren't included because that film experience was great.

First the dvds come out seperate. Then they will probably offer them togather. Then they will sell a special expanded version of the seperate films with more bonuses. Then a special expanded version with both films and more bonuses. Then when Grindhouse 2 is about to be released, there will be the 1.1 seperate versions plus a set with both films 1.1 or whatever. There will also be the exclusive special expanded versions with both films that come in special cannisters, maybe of the Death Proof car or whatever.

I think releasing the films seperately is a big mistake, and is only being done as a cash grab to recoup losses. One of the best parts of grindhouse is the fact that it was a two-for-one type thing. If they don't release the theatrical version in the future, I won't be buying Grindhouse on DVD, which sucks, because it was one of the best things I've seen all year.

many thanks to weinstein and dimension for forcing quentin and robert's fans to bear the financial burden of the casual market. 60 dollars for grindhouse? fuck that. i thought the point was that you were getting a double feature. way to abandon artistic integrity and bleed as much money as possible out of people as possible. no amount of special features or deleted scenes will make up for the lack of a theatrical version of the film and separate releases. i'm with A-n-t-h-o-n-y, they don't get a penny from me until they fix this.

Well, Death Proof comes out this Tuesday. I think I saw that the 2-disc, special edition will be $22.95 here at Best Buy. I am surely going to try to be one of the first ones to pick this up, is anyone else going to get it?

Me, too! Well, maybe not on Tuesday, but I will be gettin' it as soon as I can get my hands on the cash. I gotta see that first car crash again and again and again and again ...
(Hopefully, I can get it before October 1st! )

I pre-ordered mine at amazon last month or whenever. Still waiting on "Planet Terror" pre-order to show at amazon. It does already show at cd universe but I rarely order from them.

Shipping varies depending on how much you order. Also, I live about three miles from one of their superstores, so I could always grab something and ship it Priority, but their shipping prices are reasonable, and they've got Planet Terror on pre-order.

I haven't tried them yet but DVDPlanet may be the way to go with their economy shipping. Usually when I order a new dvd at amazon, I tack on a cheap cd or book so to make their free shipping after $25. And I'm tiring of doing that. Thanks for the tip, mark.

Oh, you, Mr. f! Such a stand up guy, always making sure we know what's up on great movies! If everyone on Earth were like him, there'd be no need for heaven. We'd already be there.

I just bought Death Proof yesterday, and I love it. Every minute of it! Even the "useless" parts. Tarantino's dialogue is always superb and keeps me watching. The car chase scene was incredible, one of the best I would say. I saw this in theaters, and it was better in the theaters. I was very upset when I found out it wasn't going to be the Grindhouse anymore, it took away what made Grindhouse Grindhouse. Death Proof is a great film in my eyes, but it's so much better when viewed after Planet Terror and the faux trailers. Anyone else agree?

I still haven't seen the end of DeathProof. My asshole friends decided they wanted to walk out of the movie, and since they were my ride, I had to go too.
That really sucks, you should definitely go rent the movie it is truly great

I do. In fact, it makes me wonder how much I'll get into the beginning of it. In the theater, you got to relax a bit after the disgusting & action-packed carnage of "Planet Terror" and just listen to a bit of dialouge until that crazy action picked up again. Now, to just start with dialouge, it doesn't seem all that great. I'm sure I'll like it, but once I get "Planet Terror", I'll ALWAYS watch them both, back-to-back, to recreate that fantastic theatrical experience!
