I wasn't sure which topic to put this epic movie under. Part Science Fiction, part drama, part action/adventure.
I honestly think Children of Men is the most surreal, horrifyingly beautiful picture I have ever seen. The ruins of London in future 2027 are simply shocking, but the thing that got me was the atmosphere of the decaying world. The first scene of the movie starts out with the youngest person on the planet being assasinated (if you didn't know, women in the future are not capable of having any babies, ever since 2009, for an unknown reason). Right after the news of this Theo (Clive Owen) walks out of a coffe shop, and as he is walking away, the building explodes. I'm pretty sure everyone in the theater jumped. This sets the mood for this very dark film. This movie had me gripping my arm chair during the multiple tense parts in the movie, which is rare for me. The acting was perfect: Clive Owen doing something that maybe he will now be recognized, Julliane Moore and Michael Caine having a small but important parts are great as well.
I honestly think this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I recommend this to anyone who thinks they can handle this dark but amazing film.

I pretty much agree. It's one of the best I've seen in the last several years. The cinematography was incredible, especially the long single-camera takes amidst all kinds of action (the car scene, for one). Kind of like what Orson Welles did at the start of "Touch of Evil" only much more complicated. Parts of it gave me a "Schindler's List" kind of feeling, just watching this horrible decay of humanity happening in front of you. The acting was dead on, the story was convincing...just an excellent movie, and relevent in all kinds of ways.
we clearly all loved the film here, but its a movie thats supposed to be talked about, and not just the quality. did anyone find any parts of this unbelieveable? brittain's malice possibly?

what scared the living hell out of me is apart from infertility (but hey, it might happen), this is almost, i hate to say it, a likely future. not maybe as soon, but im in my teens, so maybe by my 60's. i hope it isnt. i liked it much better when i heard spielberg met with futurists for minority report and THAT was what earth would be like

Children of Men is in my mind a good example of how mainstream Hollywood is getting more and more blended with indie films. From the seemingly 10 minute single shot in the building to the shaky cameras and odd angles, while still having the Hollywood actors and the funding to sufficiently support the special effects and movie, Children of Men received the best from both worlds of film and is in my mind one of the best films of 2006.

OK, my daughter wants to watch the ending of Shampoo before she goes to bed, but I saw Children of Men today. I give it a B+. That means that so far this year, I'd have to nominate it for Best Picture. It's very unpredictable AND very violent. That makes for a damn fine combo. Most of the film, or at least maybe six times, I jumped outta my seat, or at least flinched at the violence. I definitely cried for at least five minutes straight when the bloodthirsty soldiers ALL acknowledged the world's new Messiah.
I think everyone should see it for themselves. Most movies aren't so damn unpredictable. Plus, the technique, at least in the last half, is part Schindler's List and part Saving Private Ryan.
I realize that some naysayers don't like the film's plot because "they don't get it." It seems obvious to me. Besides rallying all humans, it's also about the flaws in the system, the value of ONE life, especially a NEW one, the attempt to actually just "get along", etc.. It's not that complicated. I don't CRY at the drop of a hat!

I've been searching through Youtube and found some great clips of the movie, but what I loved was the making of Children of Men. They go indepth on how they shot the amazing car scene and also when the blow the building up. Pretty incredible stuff...

the action was very real in this one. and sepically the fact that right at the beginning they killed off julianne moore showed this film is not afraid to be honest with the disregard for human life in the world. this basically made the action some of the best all year. the car sequence and the bexhill sequence were phenomenal. i was so nervous during the bexhill one. after all, the only thing at stake was the future of humanity

I just saw it again, a 2nd time seeing it in the theaters, which I've never done before. It was just as moving and thrilling as it was the first time seeing it.
Something I was wondering though, why did those people attack the car in the woods (the amazing car scene) but I was wondering why? For the car?

You may have a point or have found another flaw in the awesome movie. From our perspective, the murder you and I mentioned are the main reason, since the motorcyclists are part of that. However, there is a mention of "people in the woods" earlier on, but I really think that's a red herring. The "murderers" may have taken advantage of their inside info, but that makes me think the "people in the woods" could be made up of multiple groups (perhaps infiltrated), as long as they all claim to support the same thing. Make sense or gibberish? The fact is that the motorcycle dudes know who's coming, and the "attackers" help them out, BIG TIME.

Kindof sounded gibberishy to me, lol sorry, but if I had heard the mention of the "people in the woods" maybe I wouldn't have questioned it. And another thing: After the battle at Bexhill and Theo and Key just got out of the building and all the troops stop and watch the baby, right after that a rocket comes down, they start destroying the building again. Now Theo and Key turn the corner and the most important thing the civilization has ever seen: the baby, and no troops follow them, they just go on like nothing happend? That seemed weird to me but Children of Men was still my favorite movie of 2006. Go check it out if you haven't yet.
