I think it looks very very good. Directed by Ridley Scott, starring Orlando Bloom, Liam Neeson and Edward Norton. Hopefully it will bring the historical drama epic genre back from the low it has reached because of movies like "Troy" and "Alexander."

Seems interesting, but I will really dislike the movie if it paints the Crusaders as good warriors fighting for a good cause. It is common in Hollywood to ignore the facts and change what actually happened to make a movie, a perfect example is "Pocahontas," doesn't give history credit. IF it does a good job in the historical part first, then I will be more interested.

I am interested, and have faith that Ridley Scott might actually be able to pull this off. Hopefully the studio won't force him to compromise in order to appease the right wing Christian lobby groups who are already complaining about the poor light it might show Christians in. A movie about the Crusades showing Christians in a negative way?!? Shocking! Outrageous! LOL!!!!!! Oh, and Mike, in November there is a film called The New World being released that will tell the John Smith/Pocahontas story properly. In case that isn't enough to get you excited...it's being directed by Terrence Malick!

Yeah, but it is starring Colin Farrell, who I have never liked. I remember seeing a trailer somewhere and was interested, but am wary of Farrell's appearance in the movie.
If "Kingdom of Heaven" does portray the Crusaders as they should be, it will make it an interesting movie. I mean there is a vast amount of material to work with, the corruption of the pope, the stupidity and savagery of the crusaders can put some real drama in it. And Orlando Bloom isn't a bad actor, his work in "Pirates of the Caribbean" was pretty good and he did great in "The Lord of the Rings."

You are right about Colin Farrell, his prescence in the film does scare me quite a bit. I have little to no respect for actors who can't lose their accents for a film, it's acting goddamnit! Orlando Bloom was decent in LOTR and POTC, but he was awful in Troy. I hope that he does well though as he does seem to have some promise and talent.

Sorry to pop in late to the party, but I thought the theatrical release was rather weak -- two out of four stars -- but the 4-hr Director's Cut Special Edition is to die for mostly. I think, creatively, there are still a few threads dangling at the end that could've been tied up, but the longer cut is a vastly better film -- an almost different film entirely -- and it deserves to be viewed.
