I recently saw Troy and thought that it was a really big disappointment. I thought that Eric Bana was awful. Does anyone else think he wants to be the next Russell Crowe? Orlando Bloom I think played his character very well. And Brad Pitt was really poorly casted. Overall, it was overrated as well as boring. There wasn't enough story to make a 2 hrs and 45 min film. The action was definitely well directed and choreographed however I felt that all of the action scenes somehow felt the same. What does everyone else think?

As I said in another thread (I think the Summer Blockbuster thread in General Movie Discussion), I thought Troy was absolutely miserable. There's a very good review of Troy up at Stylus Magazine here that sums up the way I think about it.

Best wishes,

Ok, Troy is not the great epic it wanted to be, and it certainly plays with myth and history to create Hollywood drama, but I found it compelling and interesting for almost the entire 2 1/2 hours.
And, J Ho, I totally disagree with you about Eric Bana...he just about stole the show from Brad Pitt with his soulful and humane rendering of Hector. When he dies, part of the movie does also.

Ironic, isn't it?? Heavenly intervention ya think?
Hey, great to hear from someone who's read (and remembers) Homer's epic.

Its terribly sad to see the international roles that Eric Bana has been doing. His acting was beyond appaling in Black Hawk Down. Its a pity because his roles in Australian films have been really first rate. If you can get your hands on a film called "Chopper" then do so. Its one of my favourite all time films and he is just unbelievable (you know what I mean) in it.

Yes, I do know what you mean...and, thanks, I'm going to look for Chopper. I'm glad Eric stole the film in Troy, because The Hulk could have dirtied him forever.

Unlike many other movies this year, Troy actually kept me entertained. I appreciated that the events built up slowly: this made it meaningful when key characters died.

It came across to me as a classic Greek tragedy, which is what it is supposed to be. I don't think that genre is popular these days, hence the bad reviews from people expecting kung fu in the desert.

Anyone else tired of seeing computer generated armies? It is time for filmmakers to get off the CGI kick and get back to good filmmaking.

I liked this movie but expected more based off the cast and the strong epic it could have been.

it was good storytelling and stayed close to the subject matter unlike alot of films of that nature.
