Every year a couple minimal house albums pop up absolutely out of nowhere and blow me away. I'd been waiting for it to happen and right when I begin to lose hope I randomly find this. Although it was released in January it still managed to avoid my sights until recent.
Full of deep percussive beats and moody flourishes, this album is perfect for a late city night. Sometimes seemingly paranoid or downright scared, these aren't your typical club anthems-- this is intellectual house that you bump at home with a few friends. Sometimes reminding me of Gui Boratto while other times reminding me of Berlinette, this is a house album for fans of house albums. The real instruments (specifically the percussive ones) sound great as well (find "At Home I'm A Tourist" for a great representation of this aspect of the album)
Speaking of, I'm intrigued by the song title "At Home I'm A Tourist"... if that is a reference to the Gang of Four track then that might open this album up to speculation about his intentions when making the album. There is a definite theme in sound throughout the album that could really match the message of "At Home He's A Tourist". Come to think of it, the title of the album, Why Can't We Be Like Us even carries the same theme as "At Home He's A Tourist"!
Hmm, there was one track streaming on Last.fm (he apparently doesn't have a MySpace page), but it seemed pretty boring to me. I guess I'm not a big fan of minimalist electronic stuff. Some people described Four Tet's Ringer, which I love, as minimalist, but it seemed to have quite a bit going on ti me.

"Seria Suerte" (the track on last.fm which also is not on the album) is much more minimal and has a lot less life than the album.. I'd say give it a shot; the "real" (rather than sampled or synthesized) instrumentation adds a really lively feel to the album.
"Seria Suerte" still intrigues me although I wouldn't consider it house as much as... minimal techno?
so i'm listening to Pronsato and it's definitely not what i was expecting, at all! JGlass, apparently, you and i don't have the same definition of the House genre. like i said in the private thread, i don't know much about the genre but from the little i'd heard, i'd always thought of House as a type of clubbing electronica. A variation of the Dance movement of the 90s in Europe but much better produced, heavier beat-wise and louder. So, listening to Pronsato, my first reaction was "this isn't what i call house but electronica". I know you're a genre-whore JGlass but to me this sounds closer to Four Tet or maybe more Amon Tobin (actually, a mix between those two), which i don't think you'd call house, right? There are bits where i could see it leaning towards my def of House but it stops way too short. it's missing in fun and loudness. I could go with minimalist House anywhooo, regardless of what genre you want to call it, i'm actually digging this very much and will definitely listen to it some more. so thanx for the rec.

The thing about "electronica" is that it has so many sub-genres, sub-sub-genres, and random styles that the term "electronica" does the genre about as much justice as the term "rock". You've kinda got your definition of House correct (heavy production, heavy 4/4 beat, loud... House has that pulsing thump sound).. but it's actually one of the first types of electronic club music. House was born in Chicago out of Disco in the 80s... Detroit had a similar scene going on which is now known as Detroit Techno. Both were very jazzy with a focus on a thick 4/4 beat so that your body practically couldn't avoid dancing.
Now there are all sorts of forms of House-- mainly because electronic styles of music are constantly morphing and combining.
This is minimal house but it's definitely on the heavy production, maximal end of mnml house.
What you're probably used to is typical "mindless" House music... Electro house is getting bigger because everything "electro" is getting bigger (although I find it annoying). French House has blown up with Justice (who I despise) and Daft Punk (who I enjoy). Most DJ Club Mixes you see are going to be pretty mindless... but it all depends on the series and the DJ.
If you're into this then I'd advise you check out Gui Boratto (more mnml but intriguing) and Pantha Du Prince (more progressive and it kinda blurs the lines between house and techno for me).
P.S. Although I wouldn't consider Amon Tobin house, he generally tends to have similar production and vibe while looking more towards IDM and other genres for inspiration.
