So yeah.
Pop encroaches on every music genre because something from that genre crosses over to the mainstream due to intense popularity, but I wouldn't put Electronic music as a sub-genre of Pop.

Interesting thread. Love the sound of nortec. I'm a graphic designer by day and I love how the industry tends to crossover with experimental sides of music, fashion, etc and how they all seem to influence each other. With the original question, I might be off track here but I think often 'pop' refers to the commercial side of music, and through out all genres its seems as sounds move from the fringe experimental edge to more familiar mainstream sounds they become associated as more 'pop' sounding because more people will buy the music. I think you'll find this for electronica, indie rock what ever. A more familiar sound that can be tied to a particular scene = more records sold.
It's funny though, from time to time you get freaked out... I remember hearing Mr Scruff on an Audi or BMW or something car ad and just about falling out of my chair. Anyone will try and cash in on creativity in the name of advertising. So while I essentially agree with Imprezu that pop shouldn't really mean anything bar what is popular... I think if someone said my music was sounding too 'pop' I would be insulted. As for perhaps wondering if there is a hard and fast line where a sound goes from being categorised as Britney Spears or Squarepusher.....nah I doubt it exists.
