Okay, all I read are super positive reviews about this record, and after listening to this twice, I have absolutely no idea why. Super Super Super repetitive loops with a bunch of echoed screaming is all I hear here. Anybody else have a different opinion?

No, but wrong forum...

Who's defensive? I am just trying to put something in the right place if it is, in fact, in the wrong place. I like how you don't answer my simple questions.
I know you are like some genre bad-ass but you could at least try to be tactful, sometimes. The forum is electronica/dance, not electronica-dance. So yeah, electronica is another way of saying electronic music.
So I am just wondering, if electronic music is "music that emphasizes the use of electronic musical instruments or electronic music technology as a central aspect of the sound of the music" then how is this not electronic music?

I wasn't saying you were getting defensive, it was more re:

Harrison(etc.) said: well there doesn't seem to be a "avant-garde bullshit" forum so here you go
quote:
Turenne: We should create a noise/distort forum where we can throw all this silly ass music into...
Anyways, I think of this album as experimental (experimental drone mostly although definitely not purely) so I would put it in the avant-garde thread where it'd get more attention from people that might care (even though this album is p4k approved). There's a lot of "electronica" that I'd talk about in this part of the forums but there are some albums that belong in "avant-garde" (Would you put Animal Collective in this part? No, you'd put it in "Indie Rock" or Avant-Garde). I'm not a genre badass, but if you're going to try and move threads because theyu're "alternative" and not "indie" then when I feel this is misplaced sling insults, have at it.
This forum has started to bother me because a fair amount of the people on this forum tend to inadvertently or subtly bash music that is "experimental" or that they don't appreciate. I came on this forum completely new to the "indie" world and learned a lot from the long time posters here but I also took it upon myself to seek out new, interesting, and strange/thought-provoking/etc. music. I know that I'm not the only one, there are many here that are down to listen to new things, but some seem very set against finding "new" music. This is one of the reasons why I kept getting frustrated when people kept talking about the lack of good music... well, yeah, p4k hasn't posted about it yet, but you can do it yourself!
I'm not going to apologize for the rant, but it is over.
No problem, I get you. Sorry for thinking you were talking about me.
We don't have "Avant-Garde" forums and I can't move this whole thing to that thread. I also don't think it'd be feasible to have a forum for just only "avant-garde." But maybe, if there are a lot of people that want it, it could be worked out.
I'll leave it here for now and oh yeah, for what it's worth, I agree with your rant.

I agree that an Avant-Garde/Experimental forum isn't actually suitable for this site (at least not yet) and I wasn't expecting this thread to get moved; I suppose I am tactless actually. I kind of just like things organized, I like that this board is generally organized (and tries to keep it that way). If things aren't in the right place, how can we expect to get any thought-provoking discussion or maybe even recommendations which might lead to incredible finds. In example, I had This Heat's Deceit, possibly my favorite album, for a long while before I gave it a listen. I gave it a listen because JB and a few others (sicnarf? grabblegarrr I'm pretty sure was..) were singing its praises.
My girlfriend is pissy because I'm paying more attention to my laptop than her and keeping her awake when she should be sleeping. YES!
i love their sound.Their album , in my opinion , is something different and refreshing."Sweet Love For Planet Earth" is a big contender for my favourite tune of the year!
i remember a friend of mine saying that the Liars for him was the sound of robots fighting! i 'm gonna keep that image and take it further saying that if the Liars is the sound of robots fighting , then Fuck Buttons is the noise of robots making weird love! if Godspeed You! Black Emperor is the sound of apocalypse, then Fuck Buttons is the noise of the day after , finding two guys in front of their detuned and broken machines (tv,radio,pc,brain!) tryin to ...
yeah, sorry about putting this in electronica/dance but I'm not sure where else to put it. sk, that is a very interesting comparison of music to real life scenarios. well done!

I don't get it either. It's a bunch of noise, then a lame-wad beat, then more noise. Without a doubt, it is a completely amateur record that shows very little potential. And yet, the indie press is beating itself off madly over it. I hate most mainstream music as much as anyone, but a clear lack of talent doesn't make anything good to me. However, it is an electronic record, so the forum is fine.

Still my favourite album of the year. Odd and loud mess = love x 5. I love cranking this album up and watching everything vibrate in my room. sk described it brilliant, this is the sound of post-apocalypse.
