Wow, Silent Shout by The Knife is blowing me away. This music is great, so spacious, but so strangely dance-y. Thank God it finally came out in the U.S., I've been waiting to hear it forever. On par with Orchestra of Bubbles for my favorite electronic album of the year so far.

Ha, my brother has a shirt that says "Not all who wonder are lost."

And Silent Shout is nothing short of a masterpiece if you ask me. Not only my favorite electronic release, but my favorite release all this year. Electronic or partially electronic albums seem to be dominating the top of my 2006 list so far, what with Nathan Fake, Thom Yorke, the Knife, and Ms John Soda.

I was surprised to find out that all the vocals on Silent Shout are by the same girl. Sometimes is really sounds like a guy singing.

i really enjoyed silent shout the first 10 or so times i listened to it, but then got sick of it really fast, and now i dont have any desire to listen to it. i liked it a lot though when i still wanted to hear it. the vocal effects are great.

I immediately loved orchestra of bubbles where-as with silent shout all I thought was "Err... well, this is, uhhh... interesting" but I got used to, and kinda fell in love, with the album. I may prefer it over "Orchestra" now.

The reason electronic music was doing so well last year was because indie-rock music was on a halt, not that many releases came out from our favorite indie artists. But that doesn’t change the fact that Silent Shout is one of the best albums of our decade.

We Share Our Mother's Health is probably the hottest jam I've heard in a long time.

Deep Cuts is really good too... it's a lot more conventional so I've been playing it for my "progressive friends".

Have you listened to it? It's fun as hell, catchy, and well... just awesome.

"Why god, why can't some people just have fun with music?"<---This is what I ask myself half the time when talking music... why can't someone just enjoy the music rather than (like someone appropriately put it in the Person Pitch thread) make every song and album into some sort of intellectual pursuit.

Some music is just very superficial... a good amount of rap and electronica is like this.

well thanks for that. you told me basically nothing, save for your inference that i'm an intellectual snob.

i don't see how it's "catchy", "fun", or "awesome". to me, lcd soundsystem is catchier, more fun, and awesome. maybe compare and contrast, offer an example to back up your adjectives? and yes, i've listened to it. do you think i would have posted otherwise?

honestly dude, i want to enjoy the record as much as you do. you don't have to be defensive.

No, it's not catchy, fun or anything like that. Whoever said that is an idiot.

Honestly, reading the Metacritic review page is honestly all you really need to get a feel for the album. It sounds like an album being transmitted from aliens being tortured inside a cave on the planet Pluto, ya know what I mean?

And yes Knife is #2 on my fave albums of 2006 - it climbed up over the past few months. What's funny, is that the only reason I DLed it is because ONE publication gave it #1 album of the year, and I thought "hell, I could use some electronic" even though it didn't get an insane metascore.

Turns out I've become more upsessed with Knife than anything since Arcade Fire Funeral.

I personnaly think that Silent shout is, for some songs, catchy, but not catchy in the same meaning of "funny". It's a dark electronic album, which can make you cry as much as make you dance (not both at the same time!...) The Knife sounds like a band who loves electronica and don't care about what is popular in the indie scene.

Thanks bro. Anyways, any electronica album, or any album that's music is more important than lyrics, better be catchy. Kust because it's dark and weird doe not make it any less catchy, that just adds to the mystique. So, go give it another listen and if one of the songs doesn't get stuck in your head (that's how I judge how catchy something is... afterall, that's why a jingles' catchiness is it's most important aspect) then I'll shut up. But, I know that every time I listen to "Like A Pen" it's stuck in my head for days.

@Fitz- LCDSS is catchy, witty and fun... but there's just something about the beats in both LCDSS albums (but mainly Sounds of Silver) that are really repetitive and annoying. Also, their's nothing original about the beats (which was kind of cool on the s/t but lost their charm on SoS). The Knife sounds really fresh with their brat/vocal mix and it's really fun to dance to.

So, those are the reasons why I say it's catchy, fun and really good to dance to.

But, it's one of those albums that some just won't like, that's understandable.

Of course the tracks get stuck in my head - all the time, several tracks actually. I love Silent Shout to death. But when people say "fun" and "catchy" artists that come to mind are more like Daft Punk or Fatboy Slim or Bjork.. I rank Knife along with Aphex Twin and indie stuff for some reason. It takes a long time for the "catchiness" to sing in, for initially, it's rather metallic and isolating. And damn, I was really looking forward to Sound of Silver.. I've had it for days but haven't listened.

Okay, I wrote it off initially, but I think Silent Shout is actually pretty damn good. It doesn't even get old quickly...I think I'm getting used to songs beside "Silent Shout" though, since I really listened to that as a single more than the rest of the album.
