Mikey recommended this one. It's tweaker electronica. Think Amon Tobin on crack suffering from neurosis. I love it.

If someone knows Amon Tobin but not VSnares I'm going to be very surprised.

Have you listened to any other breakcore huddy?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Amon Tobin is a more recognized name than VSnares.

Well, that's a pointless debate.

Anyways, have you heard any other Snares or hardcore dance/breakcore?

I don't know why you'd mention Amon Tobin. They're nothing alike. Haven't you heard of Squarepusher? That would be a much closer comparison.

Yeah, Squarepusher is definitely another name that you could use to compare VS to. I was trying to think of some more well-known names for people who haven't heard of VS. Amon Tobin came to mind.

I've known about Amon Tobin for years, but found out about VSnares about a month ago. So, go figure.

Can't say I find VSnares pleasurable, I like some of his samples, but overall it's extremely annoying music.

Do you like any breakcore artists?

That was going to be my question but the answer is probably going to be "no".

In that case, yeah, it probably would be very annoying for him. It's not much of a leap for existing drum & bass and hardcore IDM fans, though.

Yeah, everyone I've known has hated breakcore and hardcore dance til I forced them to listen to it over and over... seems most find a single artist that they can ease into and from there start to understand what's goin' on...

In my case, it helps that I got into electronic music through drum & bass, the more mainstream clubby end of things. By the time I found Venetian Snares, I was ready for something harder to listen to.

Can't say I know many breakcore songs, much less artists. Admittedly I'm more into the lush sounds of house than stuff like this; in fact, my friend from the UK was playing some similarly annoying music on his laptop a couple days ago, and I checked the folder and yup, it was Venetian Snares. So yeah, not my thing, but if someone would like to recommend the most famous breakcore tracks I'd be glad to listen.

I can't say there are many "famous" breakcore tracks, nor ones that are universally agreed to be great.

I'd say if "lush" is your thing and you think breakcore is annoying, you'd be best starting with something easier and not so hard... Wisp's NRTHNDR is gorgeous... Squarepusher has some really good, more accessible stuff (it's hard to pick a certain album.. my favorite is Music Is Rotted One Note but I'm not sure if you should start there). Also, for an incredible VSnares track try this:

Sky Painted On Car from The (Stupid) Chocolate Wheelchair Album

And until you get into that stuff and kinda understand the idea behind breakcore, I'd stay away from labels like Breakcore Gives Me Wood and the other snarkier, punk-ish stuff.

If you're into dub check out LFO Demon's raggacore stuff.

These people make good stuff:

Frog Pocket
Ladyscraper
Duran Duran Duran
Ashtar-DXD
FFF
LFO Demon
Istahri Lasterfahrer
Droon
enduser (and various spellings)
Xanopticon
Otto Von Shirach
Stunt Rock
Zombieflesheater
Bong-Ra
Dev/Null
